About Brian

13 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
Since I work from home, and I cap overnight guests at two per day, I am able to keep an eye on your dog throughout the day, and make sure they have all the love and affection they need. Our resident pooch, Bob, is quiet but welcoming and will be happy to share our home with your pup.

Our 1800 sq ft semi-detached home (which my wife and I affectionately refer to as "Fort Tot'n") provides plenty of space for your dog to stretch out, or cuddle up close on the couch. Our neighborhood is quiet and safe, providing for stress-free walks at any time of day.

We are an ideal fit for low energy pups looking for a relaxed environment full of cushy beds, couches, and cuddles (along with a full stock of toys for the occasional tug of war!).

My wife and I are detail oriented, and are more than happy to accommodate special schedules or instructions for feeding / walking / etc.

I love taking pics with my DSLR, and as a special treat, you can expect a few shots of your beautiful pup from their stay with us! Take a look at some highlights so far:

My wife grew up with dogs, and I joined in the fun when we became a couple, and we've been doggie parents ever since! We have volunteered at local shelters and have previously fostered. All of our dogs have always been adopted from shelters, and always will!

It goes without saying that dogs are a huge part of our life, so please tell us about yours! We love hearing about what that makes your dog special, so that we can make sure they feel like they're at their home away from home.

I was very happy with my dog, Elroy's, stay with Brian. I got at least 2 pics and 1 video of him throughout the 4 days he was with him. Elroy looked happy in all the photos and was excited when I came to pick him up. Brian took him to the dog park with his other dogs he had at the time as well which I was very impressed with. He also took some professional looking photos on his camera and sent them, which made Elroy look even more special! I'll definitely be using him again.
Brian was perfect. Enough room to keep the dog active and very little time in the crate since he works from home. Also, he kept us up to date with fantastic pictures the entire time. Definitely recommended.
This was Izzy's second time staying with Brian and his wife and they took great care of her. Brian sent a lot of photos, which really makes a difference when you are away from your pet for a few days. I always feel like Izzy will be safe and looked after when I drop her off with Brian. Thanks again!
Brian did great with my two pit bull pups! After spending three nights at his place all they wanted to do was sleep when they got home!
OMG Brian's house is the BEST! Huge is usually pretty shell-shocked to be left behind. But this time was different. When we got to the house, Hugo jauntily walked right up to the right place, stopped to pee on a bush, and cruised right on in like he owned the place. I've never seen him so immediately at home in a strange house. He briefly greeted Bob and then explored. It was amazing. Brian has a very laid-back, positive vibe that transmits to people and to dogs. He is also very good at judging personalities and knowing how much affection and attention a dog is going to need. I hope he always has room for Hugo whenever we travel to DC!
Brian and family were excellent sitters for my baby girl Gaia. From the moment I visited Brian for a meet n greet, I knew that this would be the perfect home and family to entrust with my girl.

I enjoyed the daily photos that allowed me to see Gaia and get a good sense for how she was settling in at her home away from home.

Oh and their home smells so good all the time
This was our first stay with Brian and we are definitely coming back. Brian took very good care of our pup, Shelby, and even sent us photo updates while we were away. We are very happy that Shelby got along with Bob and very grateful we found a new home away from home for Shelbs.
On a crosscountry trip passing through D.C., I chose to try Vacay for my dog while I stayed with friends.
Brian responded to the request within an hour, which allowed me to finish other planning. Brian also stayed within contact both before drop-off and pickup, which gave me an extra peace of mind. It looked like Brian had lots of experience with dogs and was totally comfortable with my 80-lb gsd :). Brian's home wasn't the closest vacay option to my friends' house, but I am happy I chose him as the host!
Brian K was wonderful! My Annie was happy and healthy when I picked her up. She made friends with Bob, the resident dog. Both Bob and Annie slept on the bed with Brian and his wife. Definitely a caring home for my dog.
We are so happy we found Brian! We reached out to him after being gun-shy for a while because the fabulous sitters we previously found on DogVacay had either moved away or were unavailable. Our little girl is a bit shy, so it was really important to us to find a good fit with someone who is attentive and allows her to be as comfortable as possible. Brian was all of that and then some! His dog, Bob is super laid back and adorable and Brian and his wife were super attentive and super loving. In fact, I actually forgot to tell them that Kona's not great on hardwood stairs and when I asked Brian about it afterwards, he said he noticed her nervousness around the stairs and, without me even asking, had been carrying her up and down them! Talk about attentive and caring! We are so happy to have found Brian and we can't to use them again.
Brian is my neighbor, and I saw him taking care of other dogs before booking my dog's stay with him. I knew he would take great care of Lego and he did.

Lego came back happy and healthy. I got regular updates and when Lego wasn't pooping Brian checked in to help figure out what to do. Thanks for the great care!
This was my first use of DogVacay, and I couldn't be happier! Brian was fantastic from my first inquiry message to the day I picked up my 2 pups. He responded immediately to every communication, and he sent the best daily updates and pictures while my pups were under his care. They always looked happy, relaxed, and super comfortable. I really can't say enough positives about this experience. Highly recommend Brian!!
Brian is a wonderful host and a an amazing photographer! Max, enjoys staying there, going on walks and playing with other guests. I would definitely recommend Brian!
Brian could not have been better! I was definitely nervous leaving my dog for the first time overnight but Brian ensured he had a great time. Updates were regular and my dog seemed to have a wonderful visit. My pup came home tired yet thrilled!

If you are lucky, Brian might also take some amazing shots of your dog! I am thinking about getting one hung in my home, they are great! Will definitely be using Brian again!
What can I say about Brian aka the Pup Whisperer? I've made 3 reservations in the past month to keep my fur baby safe while my apartment was being renovated, and Brian was super easy to work with. His flexibility to coordinate with my schedule for pick up and drop offs was awesome, and not only did he send great picture updates during her stay, but also sent me some super nice, professional quality shots. My dog is now best friends with Brian's dog, Bob, and I can't wait to use Brian again in the future!
Brian and his wife were great (and I love their dog, Bob!). I got constant updates and felt so comfortable leaving June with them, especially given that both of their dogs came from rescues so they were understanding that June has some separation anxiety issues. In the future, I'll definitely leave June with them (and already have her future vacay with them lined up!)
As you can imagine sudden situations are never anticipated. Once again Brooklyn had a wonderful time with Brian. It was a short notice reservation due to a death in the family. Within 2 hours Brian accepted my reservation.
Not only was I able to focus on the family matter, I had to extend my stay in Boston 3 extra days. Brian was so accommodating and flexible. I'm a loyal customer and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND his service.
Without asking, Brian sent me updates and some pretty cool pics of my dog.
I absolutely do not worry when Brooklyn is with Brian.
Thank you sir! See you again soon.
Brian K was just great! He was quick to respond, a pleasure to work with, and sent lots of photos of Duke throughout his stay. It was fun to get all those updates and to see Duke looking healthy and happy! We had a great experience with Brian, and would recommend him asa host to anyone. Thanks Brian.
Brian should be named the Dog Whisperer! He was an absolute delight to work with from the beginning, answering all of my questions as a first time dog vacay user, and scheduling the meet and greet. My dog is great with humans, but needs some help with dog interactions, and Brian completely understood and helped get her to a comfortable place and be at ease with his pup, Bob (now bffs). I'd pick her up from daycare and she wouldn't want to leave! His attentiveness to the pups is bar none; my dog was chewing on her stuffed animal and he caught her before she swallowed the plastic eyeball! I don't want to recommend him to anyone else so he can always be available to watch my dog :) Lastly, he took some awesome, photoshoot-quality photos of my baby that I will surely get framed. Thanks Brian!!
If I could give Brian 100 stars I would. He is so amazing with our dog, and we've used many pet sitters but never found one he was so happy with.

Rudder almost never cuddles with anyone but us, but by the end of their time together he was cuddling with Brian's dog and Brian. It was really an amazing experience. He also sent us picture updates and took the MOST amazing pictures while we were gone. I've actually framed one and hung it on our wall.

I'm almost hesitant to write a good review because I don't want to share. But seriously. Please book Brian for your dog vacay needs. You won't regret it.
Brian and his wife were great! We did a meet and greet beforehand and I knew they would take good care of my pup, and I was right! They had plenty of toys for Izzy to play with and they sent several photo updates throughout her stay. I could see that Izzy was having fun and was being treated to lots of snuggles on the couch. She slept a lot when we got back home :). I would definitely use Brian again when I go out of town.
This was Brooklyn's first stay with Brain and I must say...amazing. Brian was attentive, patient and very engaged with Brooklyn. I had no worries during his stay. Brian went the extra mile by sending updates and pictures of Brooklyn lounging on the couch and jumping around outside. I am a loyal customer...thanks Brian!
Brian was a fantastic host! I brought my dog Copper over for a doggy day care day and he instantly felt at home, so much so he ran around the house and jumped on the couch! Brian was extremely friendly and easy to communicate with. Throughout the day he sent me photos of Copper and his dog Bob having fun! I would highly recommend him for a host and will certainly be using his services again.
Brian, Carly and Bob did a meet and greet with my dog Diva and I before her dog scary. Diva took to Brian and his wife immediately. Bob, the dog took a minute but they were so friendly and personable. They made me feel secure about keeping my Diva. We discussed her daily schedule and they were very responsible with her, making sure she was fed twice a day and walked three times a day. They stayed in contact with me daily through pictures. Brian even taught her a trick. I thought I was going to have a problem getting her back because she seemed to fit right in at home with them (smile).
When I picked Diva up, she was clean and seemed very happy. I highly recommend Brian and his family to anyone seeking a caring and loveabe enviroment for their pet. Diva now has a home away from home and I can now go on travel without worry. Again, thanks Brian, Carly and Bob.

This was my first venture using dogvacay. I reached out to Brian who was extremely responsive as we scheduled our meet and greet. After the meet and greet I scheduled my reservation . Brian communicated with me every day and shared great photos of Max. Max was happy and had fun. I would definitely recommend Brian!
Having been a pet sitter myself for a prominent company in the D.C. area in the past -I knew it may be hard to choose the right environment and match for my boy. I looked and searched for just the right "home away from home" for my 2 y/o shelter rescue -Oscar and found Brian and Carly! I was very impressed by their speedy responses and flexible availability to meet us just 2 days before my departure. My pup has a few medical challenges (requiring meds 3x /day) and this was his first time away since I adopted him 6 months ago. Naturally, I was a little anxious about my time away then Oscar was! Brian and Carly were welcoming, kind, gentle and accommodating. Their home was lovely and easily organized with fur-babies in mind. It was particularly important to me that the right sitter would be mostly a stay-at-home host and that there would be a other pets so that he could socialize. ALL was found at Brian and Carly's place! The right blend of human affection and dog company. I will certainly call on them again and will refer my friends and family! Brain has an excellent photographic eye and captured some of Oscar's expressions perfectly. It was a relief and a pleasure to know Oscar was well-loved in my absence -THANK YOU Fort Tot'n :)
