Ground level, cozy condo in NE DC with a back deck and small yard welcomes most breeds, most sizes, and all ages. Dogs are allowed full access to all parts of the home and are even allowed on the furniture (if you permit it). The neighborhood is filled with children so I prefer dogs that are friendly and unafraid of children. There are lots of toys and bones readily available in the house, but feel free to bring your pet's favorite. I also accommodate beds and crates if your dog prefers.
Dogs will enjoy at least two walks per day in the morning and evening and as much time in the yard as they want weather permitting. I work at home full-time so can also provide mid-day walks and daytime boarding. They will receive constant human company, gobs of affection, and much playtime. Days could also include trips to the dog park, Kingman Island, Battery Kemble Park, or the National Arboretum, some of my dogs' favorite spots.
I have been a foster for Homeward Trails Animal Rescue for the last 6 years. I have fostered and adopted out dozens of dogs and participated in the rescue and rehoming of several others. I have also been petsitting for friends and family for as long.
This home houses one nurturing and loving human pack leader, a 100-lb slobbery dog, a small playful Yorkie, and a blind and very tolerant CAT.
The oldest and largest dog Ernie is a big lover of all humans, but can be choosy with the dogs he loves. Though I have never had any issues with him and any of my fosters, I do know that he can feel threatened by dogs that are larger than him as well as unaltered male dogs.
The Yorkie is a recent acquisition. I had every intent to adopt him out, but that endeavor failed when he captured my heart with his goofiness. He's 2 years old and loves to play. To date, he's never met a dog he doesn't like.
Because this is Ernie's home and I want to be sure that everyone is comfortable with a Vacay, for most clients I require a 20 minute meet and greet at least a week prior to the stay. This will allow the dogs to get to know each other and for us to see how they interact.
I understand that occasionally people need to book last minute and I will do my best to accommodate last minute bookings. Additionally, if you would like to make a reservation, but my calendar will not let you, please reach out to me to see if an arrangement can be made. If I'm not traveling, I will often take more dogs than the limit I set on here. This is it also the case around the holidays when demand is higher.
Please note: I do NOT accept un-neutered or un-spayed dogs except for puppies under 6 months.
Finally, I have a car for transport and Atlas Vet is only a few blocks away. I have also used Friendship Animal Hospital for emergencies in the past.
Ernie, Humphrey, Ralph and I look forward to meeting you and your pup(s)!
