About Mimi

30 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
GRAEAGLE DOG VACAY
WHERE HAPPY HOUNDS HANGOUT!
The High Sierras Awaits You!
Graeagle, CA

This is the 4th year that I have offered professional dog sitting services with DogVacay serving the Graeagle, CA area. I found that I have a passion for dogs and cats. I feel like the Pied Piper of Pets when I have multiple visitors. They like to follow me around.

I can sit your pets at my home or yours. Or, I can arrive at your parked RV or your vacation rental and spend the day or night. Please book at least a week a head and a month ahead during the summer months especially if you plan to attend the Music Festivals, dirt biking or bike racing events, Crafts Fairs, Christmas Tree Lighting events, 4th of July Fireworks displays, etc..

Many of my DogVacay customers are returning knowing that their best friend is being well taken care of while they are away. So -- many thanks to those who are returning again and again. both locals and out-of-area visitors. And, many thanks for the outstanding reviews that they have posted on my behalf, not to mention Coco's.

I serve the High Sierra region within a 35 mile radius of Graeagle, CA which includes the towns of Sierraville, Sierra City, Loyalton, Quincy, Portola and anywhere in between. I can sit your friend at your home or mine. I also enjoy sitting cats too. I have 3 cats. My home is close to open space for walks, forested trails for hikes and the golf course after closing for on leash training, tennis ball and Frisbee throwing.

I have a friendly 2 year old Boxer named Coco Bella who is a great companion and loves playing with visiting guests. She is playful and bouncy and entertains guests. Bring your favorite toys. Coco has plenty of time to escort your dog on daily walks and assist with playtime. Don't forget your dog's favorite food and treats.

I have taken care of over 50 dogs and cats during my lifetime starting from when I was a little girl. Our family had 4 Boxers when we grew up which we loved to ride. I had a Siamese cat I got in college named Kitty. She lived to be 19 years old. I rescued Misty, a Flat-coated Retriever- Pyrenees mix that weighed 135 pounds and knocked me down at the beach in Coronado and broke my ankle. Then an English Spaniel named Patches who saved Cero's face from the mange. Also a German Sheperd named Terry el Terrible named that for stealing a turkey at Thanksgiving from a neighbor's outdoor picnic table when brought it home to me to share. Then I had a few mixed-mutts named Candy, Rosita, Motita and a dog named Cero (which means Zero in Spanish) who was starving at the fish market in Mexico and who had no hair, the mange , open sores and later we found out he was allergic to fish! He turned into a beautiful Terrier who loved to chase tennis balls and catch them on the bounce. The others I gave away to deserving families.

In 1995, I formed, legalized and operated for 10 years a SPCA in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico called Sociedad Protectora de Animales (SPA). There were so many dogs to rescue in Mexico. Many were starving on the streets. I'd pick them up, quarantine them, take them to the Vet, treat them for the mange, sores, ticks, dehydration, etc. Then I would train them (in Spanish) and give them away to caring homes. Very rewarding and it kept me busy when I was not farming gourmet vegetables and employing 600 pickers and packers.

After returning to the States from Mexico in 1995 and moving to the mountains of Graeagle, CA where we purchased land to develop which was named Gold Mountain, I acquired one of the smartest dogs ever, a Border Collie named Jake from the nearby shelter in Reno, NV. He spoke not a word on the hour drive home. He was with me for 10 years and went with me everywhere including playing golf on the Dragon golf course that I built. Jake and I and my trusty 7-iron would head out daily to play 9-holes. Jake loved chasing heavy equipment and testing the CAT driver's ability to not run him over. Jake became a hero one night around 2 am when woke me up and alerted me to a nearby fire in one of the Villas. He was integral in saving the building just in time because I called 911 in the nick of time..

Next, I owned a German Pointer named Sasha who was the sweetest dog I ever had. It was Sasha that encouraged me to open a pet store in Graeagle for 3 years. i could count on her to greet customers and never to enter the highway. But after she passed away, I found I enjoyed the flexibility of petting sitting at home to being tied to a storefront shop.

I still make leashes and collars for pets and sew custom-fitted pet coats. I am making pet beds using recycled materials and they get donated to the local animal shelter in Quincy, CA to provide warmth and softness. When the rescues get placed in a new home, they can take them with them to their new homes. My creations are also on sale to help support my worthy hobby.

When your pet visits, they get fed, walked and exercised, combed and petted. Coco provides most of the playing. The have little time to worry about being left with strangers. They become family. I can administer various types of medications, inject diabetes medications, lift and carry them, have a step ladder for my jeep, carriers for sleeping and timeouts and lots of love. Every pet is special.

Thanks for choosing DogVacay.com which makes my life so easy and allows me to spend more time with your visiting family members. DogVacay also provides the security of pet insurance.

And, thanks for choosing us! Mimi and Coco Bella! Hope to see you soon.

Our pup had a great time and Mimi was very communicative and accommodating.
Our two cockapoos (9 years old) had a fun time at Mimi's. She is extremely friendly and cares a lot for animals. Would definitely recommend her.
Our active Border Collie had lots of play time and was well cared for!
Nicest lady ever!
Great experience with Mimi--our dog loves her! Worked with us so we could go play golf at local resorts--wonderful with dogs & great with the "dog parents" as well--we didn't worry a moment, we could relax & enjoy our round of golf!
Mimi was beyond amazing! I made a last minute reservation, and requested that she take care of my 13-year-old pug, Coco, at our hotel for 2 separate days. She was more than accommodating, and came to the hotel because I thought that would make Coco feel more comfortable - this was my first time using Dog Vacay or any type of dog/pet-sitter service, and Mimi knew I was nervous - she kindly sent me texts / updates with pictures and I immediately felt assured Coco was in wonderful hands! Coco enjoyed her time with Mimi both days, and I was so impressed with her service and communication. I can only hope every dog-sitting experience would be as great as it was with Mimi! I am definitely going to use Mimi's service every time we go back to the Graeagle/Blairsden area.

Gigi took wonderful care of our dog, Dugan! He came home happy and looked amazing. Gigi even groomed him!
Very sweet and accommodating.
Mimi is amazing!! Our dog was thrilled at drop off and pick up. Thank you!!!
From the get-go, Mimi was an excellent communicator, which continued throughout our DogVacay experience (our first time). She even texted us photos of our dog, as she knew we were nervous parents! Our dog was well cared for and it was obvious when we met Mimi that she was competent, compassionate, in control and organized. Mimi has a dog's best interest at heart and what more could anyone want. We were in a pickle when our house sitter canceled for a 2 night stay with friends in Graeagle and we found DogVacay online. We entrusted Mimi with our 2 yr. old border collie and everything went very smoothly. Nothing shady...just a wonderful person that loves and connects with dogs!

Mimi is AWESOME, excellent communication leading up too the booking and right thru till we came back. Lulu and Houdini enjoyed their time with her. Definitely will use her service again when we are back in the area.
Mimi was great! Very easy to work with. Our dog Izzy seemed very happy there!
Mimi's pre-appointment communications were great, she arrived as agreed & spent time with our Bandit to let him get accustomed to her presence since he takes awhile to "warm up" to strangers. Bandit seemed to enjoy her company & no doubt the "doggy massage" Mimi said she gave him won him over completely. Mimi also made the effort to engage him in play time & looked after his potty-time needs since we were staying at a vacation rental & playing golf in the area while Mimi watched him. The next time we plan a vacation in her area, she will be the booking we make right after the vacation rental house is confirmed.

We left our dog Spin with Mimi for the whole day. Mimi was so warm and friendly, and Spin went right up to her! What a great visit he had!! She took him and her lovely dog, Coco, for a long walk, which Spin truly loves. He ate all of his treats, and then rested quietly on the rug. Mimi sent us a photo of him relaxing- he looked so calm and comfortable!
I highly recommend Mimi as an excellent pet sitter- she is very kind and compassionate, and I feel so fortunate to have found her. We've already signed Spin up for another "vacay" next week!

We highly recommend Mimi. She went out of her way to get our little dog, Jamie, and she let us know that if we were delayed in coming to get him at the end of the day it would be no problem. She is very experienced and provides loving care. Our little dog went to her in a second. We also received a nice text message with photo during the day to see what a good time Jamie was having at her home.

Mimi looked after my 1 year old pup Henry for a day up in Plumas County. I could tell Henry had a great time when I came to pick him up. Mimi had a wonderful dog of her own named Sasha, who was friendly and energetic.

I would highly recommend Mimi as a great dogvacay option!

Mimi was great with our little girl. She e-mailed us while we were on vacation. My husband and I were excited with the up dates. She did a fantastic job and we hope in the future that she is available to watch Sakura again. 5 Stars is not enough for Mimi and Sasha.

Regards,
Gary and Theresa Gabel
