With your permission, you'll receive a free professional photo of your pup while he or she is in our care, as I am a freelance photographer as well as a dog lover.
I am the proud mommy of a 2.5 year old Newfie runt (80 lbs) named Baloo (from the Jungle Book). I work from home as a freelance web developer and photographer, in a bright and cheerful Lichtenstein/ Warhol/ Dr. Seuss/ Alice in Wonderland inspired prewar apartment amidst a sea of lazy dogs, relaxing at my feet, enjoying the cool breeze from the air conditioner after the pups have worn themselves out from a long morning spent at the dog run.
Our apartment is 2 blocks from Central Park's Great Hill, 4 blocks from Riverside and 6 blocks from Morningside Park's dog run. We like to keep things interesting by rotating parks throughout the week, giving ourselves the opportunity to meet new people, but most importantly new dogs.
We sometimes joke and say, if Baloo had a human voice, he'd sound like Willoughby from "Of Fox and Hounds"... "Which way did he go George? Which way did he go?"... he's that much of a smooshy love bug.
While Baloo is quite small for his breed, he is still a very large dog, who loves to play with smaller dogs because he thinks he is a tiny little guy himself... he also fairs well with large dogs, he just seems to be so intrigued by smaller pups, (perhaps he thinks they are live toys)...who knows?
Baloo's latest guest has been a 10 year old, pint sized Cocker Spaniel named Bohdari (who, as small as he is, has maintained his role as the alpha in an apartment that doesn't even belong to him :), Baloo is just happy to have the company and gets along well with pretty much any person or dog he's come across.
Bohdari will be leaving our home at the end of this week; we just know Baloo will miss the company and we'd love to keep him entertained with another canine companion.
We start our mornings grabbing a cup of Joe on our way to spend an hour or so at the dog run. Once we return home, it's puppy playtime while mom gets to work in the Living Room, where she can keep an eye on everyone (they usually end up napping for a bit after the run).
After nap/playtime, mom eats lunch and plays "trick for treat," with the puppies before taking them on a 30 minute walk around the neighborhood, then, back into the AC we go, where the dogs have free, supervised playtime until it's time for supper and a late night walk around the block or an off leash run at Central Park just before bed.
All dogs have free run of the house with the exception of the kitchen and bathroom which are kept closed or gated off. The dogs love to follow us around, and many times they end up sleeping in the same rooms as the humans do.
