We want you to feel secure knowing your pet is happy, relaxed, and well supervised by experienced caregivers.... Located on five cleared and fenced acres, we live in a modest, clean, pet-oriented home. Our personal menagerie includes two socialized dogs, two dog-savvy cats that live in the non-dog areas, a small flock of chickens and some adorable Nigerian Dwarf goats...of course, the chickens and goats live outside in their own digs!
This is Dana's full time vocation, and it allows her to continue her avocation as assistant director of a local dog rescue. We have an average of seven dogs in our home at any given time. However, with our animal experience, and the wide open spaces we have available, the dogs seem to really enjoy the company. Everyone in the house takes part in the care and cuddling of our guests, so nobody feels left out.
We engage in free play, and the dogs have access to our couches, many comfy beds throughout the house, or crates if they are comfortable in them. As longtime rescuers and animal people, we know what makes a pet happy, and will do what it takes for them to relax and enjoy their stay.
Pictures and/or videos are provided to you via text or email while you are gone, and updates are provided as requested. We are reachable by phone, text, or email, and try to return communications within the hour whenever possible.
With stays of three days or more, the dog will be bathed at no charge, because, well, we are in the country, and... dirt happens!
Whatever your pet needs, VanZoo can do it for you!
Update 08/28/2014: We no longer invite intact males as guests. Their higher excitability and tendency toward obsessive behavior has prompted this change, as a courtesy to our other guests. Intact females are still welcomed.
Update 06/01/2016: Due to several uncomfortable experiences we have had in the past, we have decided that we will no longer accept certain breeds and mixes in our home. We will, however, visit them in THEIR homes. This include dogs with high prey drives of any breed. We adore your dog, but we love ours, too... and we no longer wish to put them at risk. A dog that wouldn't dream of harming another animal under his owner's supervision may not behave similarly in our environment. So, we'll be MORE than happy to set up visits in your home if you are within 10 miles of our home.
**NOTE: We are currently in the middle of some minor home improvement projects, but will continue to offer safe and loving care throughout the process.**
