My husband and I have shared our love for dogs from the moment we met. We live in a large house with an even larger fenced in back yard for dogs to run around and play as well as a covered patio to get out of the sun and lounge. We have 5 dogs of our own ranging from a small Chihuahua/Terrier mix to a large Lab and just about every size in between so we know what it is like to run with a big pack and how to show attention to everyone. Our dogs are used to new dogs staying with them since we are frequently watching friends and family members dogs when they go on vacation or are in town for a family get together.
We ALWAYS start new dogs off in the back yard (our "neutral zone") with our two oldest dogs: Dobie a 13 year old Chihuahua/Terrier mix and George a 10 year old Lab with congestive heart failure. This allows any new dog to get accustomed to the environment and smells and meet the calmest dogs first. Then as we feel they are comfortable and ready we slowly swap out our dogs and introduce the guest dogs to each of our pups (typically one at a time so as to not overwhelm the guest dog). Once everyone has met and seems to be comfortable all the dogs are let outside to hang out and play outside together while being supervised to make sure everyone gets along together as well then everyone is let in and able to fully explore and play like normal inside and outside. Every dog takes a different amount of time to adjust to the surroundings and each dog, nothing is changed until the guest pup or our pups behavior appears to be calm and comfortable so this can take anywhere between a few minutes to a few hours (especially in the case of a dog with anxiety problems).
Typically with nice weather the dogs are all out in the backyard to run and play with plenty of Nyla bones, sticks, and balls to chew on and brought in for a mid day nap, afterwards we play with everyone inside for a while and then let play outside a bit more before the sun sets. Lots of lounging and cuddling in the evening. Your pets will get plenty of exercise and lots of love and attention while staying with us!
If you have a big dog that needs lots of room to run and get exercise or a young dog that LOVES to play then this is the PERFECT place for them!
