About Holly

25 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
I've been working with dogs--raising, training, showing and loving them-- since childhood. Its fulfilling for me to connect with dogs on a deeper level so I don't board a lot at one time. I have large clients as well as delicate, tiny clients and a lot of senior dogs who are blind, deaf and physically challenged. Dogs don't have to go up and down stairs if they have arthritis or knee issues. My oldest client is 17!

My business started in a Chicago, Lincoln Square apartment. I'm in the country now in a ranch home on 2 acres, that is outfitted for dogs with indoor and outdoor pens. Sleeping arrangements include plush dog beds, crates, couches and my TempurPedic bed, which unless they're a huge dog, is where they sleep.

In summer, the dogs lounge on the deck where they can nap in the sun, watch hummingbirds and the deer that wander through the yard. We talk long walks in the country where there's very little traffic and 15 minutes away is the beach. In winter, two fire places keep us cozy after our brisk walks in the snow.

Many of my clients live in Chicago so I often drive into the city which is 60 minutes away to pick up and drop off. I do offer that service for a small fee. Whats great about my location, is that I"m not far from 94 and I'm on the way to Michigan where a lot of people travel for vacation.

We really appreciated Holly's special care and treatment of our dog who had gotten sick the day before she went to stay with Holly. Holly gave her medication and kept us posted with updates and pictures about how our dog was doing, for which we were so grateful!
I love this house. So dog freindnly of all ages. Holly was an excellent host and a true dog lover. She even sent photos of our dogs stay and calmed our dog durring a storm. Love her
Needed someone last minute to watch my furbaby. Holly responded very quick. I felt good about leaving her there and Holly sent a few photos of my dog while I was gone, which was very nice.
Holly was great with my Two Pups....I was comfortable leaving them with her. They ran right in and never looked back :) Holly couldn't have been nicer or more helpful in discussing the bout of Separation Anxiety one of them had. Holly provides a calm and welcoming environment. I do recommend her.
Holly is responsive to requests and reliable. She has lots of dog experience. Her large back yard has been wonderful for our dog to run in. She even took him for a walk to visit lamas!
Holly is an EXCEPTIONAL dog sitter! She treated our puppy like her own, even bathing him as needed. We could tell he was having a fantastic time as he was smiling or super chilled in the pictures that she was kind enough to send us throughout his vacay. She was also super easy to coordinate complicated drop-off and pick-up arrangements. Thank you, Holly!!! Fuzzy will be a repeat visitor, for sure!
Our dog had a great day with Holly at her house. Holly lives in a lovely setting in the country. Would certainly recommend Holly's services to others and employ her again if we had the opportunity.
My dog loved her stay at "Camp Holly!" She was so happy to have other dogs to play with, and Holly did just a great job with her! We loved the pictures that we received! I was very comfortable leaving my dog with Holly!
Holly took great care of our dog Lou! She had a great set-up of grouping dogs per their general temperament and needs, and had great space to allow them to hang outside as well! We look forward to using her again in the future!
Holly was a wonderful host during my recent trip to Indiana. She not only accommodated my last minute reservations, but she was also very open with pickup and drop off times. Additionally, she sent pictures during Romeo's stay. I would highly recommend Holly to anyone looking for a pet sitter and will definitely request a reservation with her again, given the opportunity. Excellent service all around. A++++.
Coco had a wonderful time with Holly and came home from her none-day stay happy and relaxed. Holly is warm and loving and couldn't have been more welcoming to Coco.
This was Rufus' third time with Holly, and I could see him getting excited as soon as we got to the door. Holly is great to work with - she always responds quickly to calls and text's and I never worry about Rufus in her care. Thanks! Clay
This was Rufus' first time with Holly. Could not have been more pleased with Holly! Rufus loved his stay and Holly is wonderful person and is exceptional with animals. Thanks.
The reason we went with Holly was based on her amazing reviews on here. We booked her for a "last minute" trip I partially regret taking now. We noticed we were not being updated on how the pups were doing so after trying to get in touch with her after about 10 hours, she explained her mother was having surgery and that she had been "tied up", explaining her lack of communication. Hoping my dogs were not crated all day, she quickly got defensive and stated she would be happen to find a replacement for the duration of the stay. Having someone you do not know stay at your home is hard enough, let alone trusting someone you barely met to replace her. A simple "my apologies, it won't happen again" would have sufficed. We tried to enjoy the last of the trip, although my husband was quite upset about the lack of communication. When we returned, we found our pups safe but some not so pleasant findings. 1. a golfball-sized ball, maybe smaller, was chewed up - later that night to find the tiny pieces from the ball in my puppy’s bowel movement. 2. urine stains on my hardwood floors 3. vertical blinds & our back porch gate broken 4. Leftover food in the fridge which had not been cleaned out. Those being key points, there were some other things I was VERY unhappy with. We are crate training our puppy and we found his bed (that goes IN his crate) out of his crate. She tells us that "he whined and she let him sleep out of it" all night. I was very adamant about where they sleep. Never has the puppy cried while in the crate. Today, which is the main reason why I'm writing this review, our pup threw up a large wad of string/toy. I was told he "destroyed" a toy while we were away - please note: I specifically said IF you give them a toy, watch them - and judging by the size of this thing, she was not watching them. It was about the size of my hand and he weighs about 20lbs. This would explain his lack of interest in his food since we got back. And unless she just refused to clean the urine that just backs me up on my thoughts on them not being watched properly. It's not a guess or opinion, it's evident. I mainly blame myself for deciding to go on a trip with having such young dogs, but I thought with both of them being housebroken (the puppy is trained to go on pads, which were she seemed to go through almost double) this should be simple with my basic, detailed instructions. Holly seems like a caring individual, and her general love for animals seemed genuine when we met the first time. I have to second guess it when my dog swallowed a toy, peed everywhere, and is now hard to get to sleep at night. Maybe she just had a bad week and it was a coincidence. But the fact that she was very defensive when I ask question about certain things, or expressed our concerns and does not take blame for anything, just leads me to believe she felt she did nothing wrong.
Holly was great! She is a true animal lover and I know our pup was in good hands at her home. She was easy to communicate with and wanted to make sure we were completely comfortable before we left our pug with her for the weekend!
What a super host. Holly really "gets" the way of the dog, and understands their needs. She has been attentive to every request we've made, and sent cute photos while we were away. Frank E. Schwartz was obviously very loved while he stayed with her. We'd use her again in a hearbeat. He is a very intense little fellow, and always needs to have a project or he'll be bored, and she found great ways to keep him occupied.
Holly was great with our two pups! She was very open to any concerns we had and very easy to work with. We'll definitely have our pups staying with Holly again!
Always a pleasure having Holly take care of Cooper. He always comes back even happier than I left him! thanks Holly!
After a last minute trip came up for us over the weekend, we were scrambling around Wednesday to find arrangements for our dogs. Holly's profile really stood out to us based on the things she wrote and how many stellar reviews she had. She worked with us at the last minute to find a "meet and greet" time that worked and allowed us to come by after 8pm. That was pretty huge to us since our schedules can be kind of hectic!

Once we met Holly, we saw that she has a really eccentric and fun personality. She is very professional and takes the business side of her life seriously, but she didn't take herself so seriously that she wouldn't be goofy and play around with our crazy dogs. They seemed to have had a great time, considering they were only interested in sleeping and not playing once they got home!
Holly was fantastic both with the pups and the house and the kids. She is trustworthy, responsible, and caring. I can't think of a better fit for watching our family's best friends.
Holly really took care of Benny. He is a beagle puppy and with that comes high energy. Yet, we could tell after his stay with Holly that she really spent time with him and engaged with him. He was super tired in a great way! Holly was kind and Benny really enjoyed his stay! Would definitely use Holly's services again!
Holly has a genuine passion for pets. She was phenomenal with Bella and Choco during our one week vacation and we will definitely be booking with her again!
Holly was great! Sweetness was immediately comfortable with Holly and when we picked her up, we could tell that she had a much better time than she usually does at a boarding facility. Thanks Holly!
Holly was fantastic! She watched our dog for 10 days during a long vacation. We received photos during the stay to update us and let us know he was ok! Holly treated our dog as one of her own, and even took him to the beach and park! Will definitely ask her to dogsit again.
Holly was great!! I was out of the country and received several email updates with countless pictures. Absolutely awesome and VERY RECOMMENDED. Thanks Holly!
I felt very comfortable leaving my dog with Holly. He can be a rascal getting into things and making himself sick. He was happy and healthy when I picked him up. Holly was quick to respond with texts reassuring me whenever I checked on him.
I met Holly and reserved a weekend for my dog Max to stay with her so I could go to a friend's wedding. It was the first time I have been away from Max since adopting him so I was a little nervous. After my initial meeting with Holly I was far less worried. She kept me updated with voicemails and texted me pictures of him having a great time with his new dog friends. I think he had a little vacation too! When I picked him up he was happy to see me but I think a little sad to go... I would recommend Holly to anyone looking for a responsible and knowledgeable dog lover to look after your loved one!
Thanks Holly for taking such good care of Sherman!
Holly was great! Very easy to connect with, and I knew that Sherman was going to be well taken care of as soon as I met her. I am one of those dog owners that truly hates to leave their best buddy with ANYBODY. However, now that I know and trust Holly it will be easy to know that he is in good company.
Holly also sent photo's and left me messages so I felt connected to him while being so far away...All the things that help an over protected dad.. :)
Thanks Holly, from me and Sherman!
Holly S. was fantastic! She had consistent communication with me while watching Ruby. She texted me, took pictures and video of her. She took on the challenge of Ruby's issues, and ultimately allowed her to get along well with the other dogs and children. She has extensive experience with dogs, and it shows through her capabilities. Great experience and I will be using her again!
My little one is a brat so Holly did a great job in taking care of her! She is a wonderful person, very responsible and responsive. She does love all the pets like her own child. Cookie came back home without shivering or whining. Thanks Holly =)
Sammy loved holly! He was so happy with her that he actually ate.( that doesn't happen often when I am gone ). I will hire Holly again and tell my friends about her and DogVacay.
This is the third time I've used Holly and my Lexi was very excited when we got there, she has become accustomed to staying at Holly's house! Holly was very accomodating with our drop off and pick up times, she had very little notice. It's good to feel confident that we can leave our precious one in such good hands!
Our 2-year Boston Terrier returned home from Holly's house very happy and healthy. It was such a difference from bringing him home from a kennel -- no illnesses, no stink, no crazy exhaustion from lack of sleep and too much playing with other crazy dogs! I would highly recommend Holly as she was very responsive to us and seemed to enjoy spending time with animals. Thank you, Holly!
We had Holly watch our morkie Lexi for several hours on the first visit; Lexi suffers from separation anxiety and after we left Holly said she whimpered a bit but after awhile she relaxed and had a good time. This time we left Lexi for 24 hours, she was anxious to visit with Holly this time, no doubt after having had a great visit the first time! Holly said she made herself at home right away, slept with her and had a few nice walks. We are so lucky to have found Holly after moving to the Chicago area this summer!
After an extensive search for a daycare/overnight boarding facility we decided to give DogVacay a try as our morkie Lexi was used to going to a pet sitter. She tends to get nervous in new situations and having her stay at the pet sitter's home rather than at a large facility is a perfect solution. We used Holly based on a prior recommendation and an added advantage is her close proximity to our home. We like the attention that Holly is able to provide, it's evident that she loves what she is doing! The first visit was only for about 6 hours but the next will include an overnight...we're sure Lexi will grow to love staying at Holly's!
Holly was incredibly responsive and we were even able to book with her last minute. We have an incredible skittish beagle-mix, who usually takes at least a day to warm up to someone. We left him and his sister with Holly for one day, and upon our return we learned our skittish pup had warmed up so much to Holly that he even slept in her bed with her!
You can tell Holly really loves caring for animals and takes great care of them. She will definitely be our go-to dogsitter when we leave town, and I'd recommend her to anyone!
My very particular Chihuahua had a wonderful Holly-day with Holly. Holly was very accommodating and welcoming to my little Chihuahua. She knew how to handle our Chihuahua's temperament as well as how to put our mind at ease with a communication update the first day and pictures throughout the stay. Holly is the perfect compliment to my Chihuahua's demands as well as my neurosis about leaving my dog. I highly recommend Holly and will definitely use her as a host again.
