About Katie

10 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
The Grateful Dog is located in the Historic district of Downtown Irvington . It is a two story, smoke-free, air conditioned home with a medium sized fenced in yard which gets plenty of sun and shade at any time of the day. Pets have free range of the home and back yard or have the option to relax in a private, air conditioned room upstairs on a full sized bed with a nice view out of the window.

Food and water stations are located in several points of the home with night lights nearby so they can always find their way. Tasty home-made treats made from all-natural ingredients are provided for your pet to enjoy throughout the stay.

We also feature a large claw-foot tub with a detachable shower head to provide bathing and brushing options. Our dogs are bathed regularly and I have always had a knack for getting dogs to enjoy baths. The pet will not be harnessed or leashed but rather allowed to relax in a large tub and enjoy a good head to toe scrub.

I am originally from West Virginia and my fiance, Chris, is from Indiana. We recently bought our home in Downtown Irvington in a lovely, safe, and quiet neighborhood convenient for long or short walks. We have had pets, mainly dogs, in our families our whole lives and currently own two of our own. Bonnie is a 12 year old mid-sized Border Collie and Jude is a 7 year old, slightly chunky, Shepard Mix. Both are fully vaccinated, animal friendly, and, spoiled rescue dogs.

I have a long history of caring for a variety of animals from newborn puppies to senior hospice for dogs of all sizes and breeds. I have loved every dog I have ever met, and they have loved me back. Chris has a reputation as a "male Snow White". Any and every animal loves him so, do not be surprised if you come to pick up your pet and find him/her snuggled and belly up in his lap. He is also very strong and, if available, can walk the large and extra large breed dogs during their stay.

At The Grateful Dog your pet will be treated as more than a house guest. Your pet will receive the love, attention, and comfort of family.

She and her fiancée are very good sitters. She knows how dogs communicate and interact. Nice and friendly house and back yard for dogs. I'm very Happy with her services.
Ted loves Katie and her fiancé. His first day was Monday and I plan on taking him back once a week! I could tell he was loved based on the butt scratches he demanded from them at pick up! It's a relief to have someone close by that can care for my baby when I can't.
Katie is full of knowledge and loves dogs. The house and yard are set up for dogs. She understands the psychology of dogs, including dogs' interaction with its own species and with homo sapiens. She's really good.
Did a one night stay with Katie as a test run for a longer stay and we were very pleased with the updates we got during the overnight and the day our dog was there. Katie was very flexible with drop off and pick up times and always had the best interest of our pet in mind. Will definitely be using Katie again for our extended stays. Highly recommend!
Katie and Chris did an amazing job taking care of our large Rhodesian Ridgeback over an extended (21 day) stay. They provided updates often during her stay and informed us when anything was off in her behavior. We never had to worry about the well being of our fur baby. We will definitely be using Katie and Chris again for our pet sitting needs and highly recommend them to anyone who needs a stress free and happy environment for their pet!
Katie exceeded all expectations with caring for my dog. She is knowledgeable about dog behaviors and how to deal with many situations that can occur. My dog is very active and Katie thought Maggie should have a little more food, and gave her an afternoon snack to supplement all the energy she was expending playing with the other dogs. I am very happy with the level of care and compassion that my dog got with Katie. I will use her services again.
We were very pleased with our first visit with Katie. She was very responsive during the process of getting to know her and arranging our first vacay for our dog, Riley. She is clearly a dog lover, as her home was very accommodating with a big fenced in back yard and lots of room to roam. Katie communicated frequently each day with texts and photos of Riley and his playmates which confirmed for us that he was in good hands and well cared for. We will definitely schedule another Vacay visit with Katie the next time we are in town. Riley loved her! We highly recommend Katie!
We used Katie to watch our dog for a few hours while passing through Indianapolis so that we could visit the Children's Museum. Katie was very accommodating and took great care of Matilda. We really appreciated the time Katie took to make Matilda (and our daughter) to feel comfortable at drop off. We highly recommend Katie.
Zoey stayed with Katie for a day and everything went swimmingly. Katie is very quick to respond and sent me a picture update. We'll be using her again for a longer stay.
Katie was wonderful. She was very good about how she introduced Baxter to her dogs. She helped keep Baxter busy so he didn't even know we left. She sent updates and pictures on how much fun he was having! Would definitely use her again!
Katie was great. I requested a stay 3 hours before I left to go out of town for Thanksgiving. Katie accepted within an hour after I sent my request. I dropped my baby off and felt completely comfortable. Dior is diva and she is somewhat territorial (so I learned). Katie stayed calm and was able to made Dior feel comfortable and less anxious. While I was out of town, Katie sent me daily updates and photos. She also made snacks (YES, she actually made doggie snacks). Dior was sent home with some too. Katie also gave me advice about Dior's anxiety. I liked Katie so much that I plan on signing Dior up for weekly doggie daycare.
Super easy and friendly to work with. Everything I encountered made me feel comfortable leaving my dog there.

Big, fenced, clean back yard. Truly a home away from home for our girl. This gave her the opportunity to play with other dogs without the overwhelming environment of a doggie daycare. When they were able to report our dog's comfort sighs, I knew she had been treated as part of their family.

As a Registered Veterinary Technician of over a decade, I'll be happy to use Katie O again in the future.
Katie was very nice and my dogs were very happy with her. She sent out pictures of them each day and kept me posted. A++++
Katie was a great host! She was very responsive to me, sent updates, and took great care of my puppy while I was away. I will definitely be sending Ella to Katie in the future. I would recommend anyone in the area looking for a host to contact Katie. She was fantastic.
