It would truly be my pleasure to welcome you all to The Dogmother's heart and home. Hopefully my experience will speak for my intense passion. I am a professional in the field, lead in by my heart with full awareness that I had that to give and my love would be reciprocated. I have years of joyful memories and friends I will never forget, and my choice to become a professional in the industry has allowed me to make it an important part of my life and my identity. Over 14 years ago I adopted my first dog. She was a rescue from a backyard breeder and had some emotional baggage, but it was love at first sight and I knew she was the one. Determined to give her a better life, I enrolled in a series of classes, a decision that would change the course of my life. I soon discovered that I had a very bright dog, as as I watched her excel and become the example for others our bond grew and were a team. The joy that I felt watching her grow inspired the beginnings of my career as a dog trainer, and I got to feel that joy over and over again with many other loves of my life that have families of their own but in my heart are still "mine". It's the best thing that's happened to my life and it's made me a better person. It wasn't easy to live on $10/hour- but I don't care too much for money, money can't buy me love.
If you need an experienced professional handler because your dog has some issues that require special attention, or if you just prefer someone that has dedicated their life to this because dogs are my life, call The Dogmother, I'm your girl.
I have worked for years in boarding, training, and behavior consultation. I started out as a volunteer assistant for obedience training classes and from there I went on to train shelter dogs at the SPCA. After a year at that I decided I couldn't handle the emotional devastation that resulted when dogs could not be saved and I moved on to boarding. As a result of this varied background I gained a wealth of experience first with rescue dogs, and then with nearly every breed as individuals. I got into behavior consultation after many years of leading playgroups and having to assess behavior in order to predict which dogs could go out together. With over 12 years in professional training and boarding, I know what to do when things happen- and if there's anything I've learned many times over with home boarding, it's that THINGS HAPPEN. If your dog is a rescue or has any behavioral issues at all, I highly recommend that you choose an experienced handler because anything that can go wrong will go wrong when your dog is not at home. I am trained in medication and first-aid (including injection administration) and I have effectively managed every medical and behavioral problem commonly associated with boarding in my years at prestigious local facilities I will name if you ask. My love is endless and knows no bounds. If your dog sleeps with you he will sleep with us in my pet-friendly Queen-size bed. If you, he or she prefer, you can bring along their bed or I can make one for them here as I have four dog beds and several dog houses. I could accommodate two to three dogs at a time depending on their breed and temperament. I have a special knack for comforting shy guys, and if that is yours I will try not to book any high energy dogs during their stay. I am also willing to let you talk to your dog on Skype, as I so love to do when I travel. :)
