Nice fenced dog yard in quiet neighborhood. Check out and like our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/spicersdogretreat/ Our goal is to offer your dog a home away from home. My husband and I both work from home so there is always someone here with the dogs. Our personal dogs would have it no other way! We often say our dogs own the house and they just let us live here! I have often been accused of liking dogs more than people so your dogs will get a lot of love and attention while in our care. Our dogs love it and yours will too!
Because we have 4 dogs of our own, we often find it difficult to go places and travel. They are not used to being alone or being in crates so boarding them in most places is too stressful for them. We decided we wanted to create an atmosphere for our customers that would emulate the kind of place we would want to leave our dogs if we have to go away. Thus, Spicer's Dog Retreat was born!
While in our care your dogs will become a treasured part of our family and part of our pack. During the day they will have many dog beds and favorite places in which to lounge throughout the day, along with more toys than any dog should be allowed. There is always a game of tug or fetch happening when all of their friends are here to play. When nighttime comes they will be allowed to sleep wherever they are most comfortable. If they are used to sleeping in bed with someone at home, they will have that option with us. We don't crate your dog unless requested. If they are more comfortable and used to sleeping in a crate, we have several sizes to choose from. If you have bedding they are used to that would make them more comfortable, feel free to bring that along. We are not a kennel or boarding facility. We simply make our home their home!
All of the dogs have full access to the "dog yard" as we call it. A nice secured fenced in area large enough for playtime and to do their business. The area is dog proofed for all ages and sizes and is cleaned several times a day to ensure they always have a clean place to romp. There is a large deck available for lounging in the sun for those who like to just sit back and watch the action. We use pea pebbles in the yard to ensure it is easy to clean up and to limit the mud when it rains. I like to take walks so if there are dogs who require a little extra exercise, I am happy to take them around our neighborhood. I always say a tired dog is a happy and well-behaved dog!
We are actively involved with several Cavalier King Charles Spaniel rescues. We have fostered many dogs, including a litter of puppies. We are also breeder caretakers and puppy raisers for New Horizons Services Dogs. We are responsible for the basic obedience training, house training and socialization of the puppies in our care. Although we are not certified trainers we would be happy to pass along the knowledge we have gained by training service dogs onto your dogs while in our care.
We are experienced with special needs and senior dogs. Many foster dogs that come through have anxiety issues, socialization problems and were raised in puppy mills. We have raised 2 dogs with seizure disorders. We also have experience with dogs with syringomyelia, heart murmurs, mitral valve disease and separation anxiety. Additional, because of our puppy raising experience, we are not afraid to take on a young puppy that is still working on house training. To protect our dogs and visiting dogs, we are currently not accepting dogs with any type of aggression issues.
We do not have full grooming facilities yet but bathing and brushing your dog and trimming nails is available for an additional fee
We have been dog and pet owners our whole lives. In the past my husband and I have had many different types of pets. Dogs (cavaliers, shelties, golden retrievers, rottweiler/golden mix, pitbull/beagle mix, Yorkie, Shih tzu, cocker spaniel, basset hound, ), cats, reptiles (lizards, bearded dragons), small rodents (guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits), birds (parakeet, cockatiel, chickens). If you have additional caged pet care needs we would be happy to discuss that during our meet and greet. Please no cats as our dogs do not socialize well with them.
We do ask that all dogs be spayed and neutered and that they are up to date on vaccinations. We would also appreciate your dog having flea and tick prevention as we want to keep our pack safe as well. A meet and greet before your dogs stay is required. We want to ensure that we are a good fit for your dog, that they socialize well with our family dogs, and that they will be comfortable during their stay. Same day bookings are okay but a meet and greet will still be required prior to their stay.
We will send you picture updates and videos to your cell phone or email. We also keep our facebook page up to date every day with pictures and videos of your dogs while in our care. You can check in to see all the updates anytime https://www.facebook.com/spicersdogretreat/
