About Amy

I'm a 30 year old college graduate in school at NCSU to earn my DVM. I'm an experienced vet tech and a long time foster/volunteer at our local animal shelter. I have worked with all types of dogs including newborn, elderly, injured and special needs. I provide in-home care for dogs under 15 lbs. I am currently unable to accept larger dogs (or very rambunctious dogs) due to the needs of my own senior/special needs pets.

My home is a cage-free environment that caters to the comfort and happiness of the pups in my care. I have a small fenced backyard and all hardwood floors. I live in a quiet residential community set back a mile from the road. I am a safe, fun & loving caregiver who truly understands how important your pet's wellbeing is to you.

Visiting pups love staying with me because I treat them as one of my own. My friends joke that my house is "dog heaven" because there are dog beds everywhere & toys/bones galore. I take canine guests for leisurely walks on the greenway, to the dog park and on hikes at Umstead State Park.

I go the extra mile to make you and your pet happy. If your pet needs to be brushed daily to maintain a tangle-free coat, I will do it. If your pet is picky or ill, I will cook for them or hand-feed them, whatever is needed. I can administer medication and insulin injections. I like to send updates/pictures daily to show guardians how their beloved pup is doing and share all the fun they are having!

The maximum amount of time your pet would be unsupervised is 6 hours. During this time they get to stay in the "doggie living room" which has glass doors so they can see the outside & a baby gate across the doorway. Before I leave, I spray a calming aromatherapy mist & make sure they have plenty to do- I leave the TV on, interactive toys out, and (if it's ok with Mommy/Daddy) give them a yummy fully digestible sweet potato chew that is good for their teeth & their tummy- this takes them a while to work on and they LOVE it.

I currently have 4 maltese mixes (rescues). They are used to having visitors between my fostering and petsitting. My fur kids and I will make sure your little one feels welcome and provide a "home away from home". You can trust when your pet stays with me that he/she is safe, well cared for & having a wonderful time. Thank you for considering allowing me the privilege of caring for your best friend.

Our dog, Sparky, stayed with Amy for the first time (a week) recently and we have already planned to have him stay with her on our next trip. Amy's home is set up for dogs the way a playground is set up for children! She texted me pictures of Sparky and updates while I was away - which allowed me to relax and enjoy my vacation without worry. I also found it comforting to know if there were any mishaps, Amy would know what to do even better than I would. I could tell Sparky got along with her dogs well. He is probably even missing his new buddies. I hope this helps ease any fear about leaving your precious family member with someone you don't really know (yet).

Our 1 and a 1/2 year old Westie, Gretta, stayed with Amy for the first time over Thanksgiving. We decided to take a last minute trip to Texas and Gretta needed care for over a week! I was apprehensive to have her stay with someone new for this long period of time, but after contacting Amy and speaking with her over the phone, I was immediately at ease. We set up a meeting a couple days after our conversation to make sure that Gretta would get along with Amy's furry kiddos and fit into her environment... all went well. It was apparent to me that Amy is an extremely caring and responsible dog owner and sitter…and being a vet student, I knew Gretta would be in good hands.

While we were away, Amy was so kind to send us pictures of Gretta and we loved this. She even gave Gretta a bath, and washed her bed and blanket the day before we returned! This was a pleasant surprise! When I returned to Amy's to pick Gretta up, it was apparent to me that she had a great stay. I wasn't sure she would want to leave! Amy sent home a couple of dog treats that Gretta liked and she even sent home a stuffed toy Gretta was fond of during her stay…I was touched by that. --and Amy was right, Gretta plays with this toy daily now at our house!

I will definitely book with Amy again in the future and I highly recommend her. She goes above and beyond and really cares…her home is a doggy haven.
