About Sheila

When your precious fur baby has a DogVacay with me, it's like staying at Gramma's house – whether they are spending the day in daycare or staying as an overnight guest! Your dog will be treated as part of my doggie family. And you won't be charged for one on one time, special treats, or even group doggie playtime like some facilities around here do – the love and the fun are all included!

I've run a Miniature Schnauzer Rescue, Sheila's Schnauzies, a licensed rescue, since 1998. (We are a Nebraska state licensed rescue and boarding facility). I love all breeds of dogs though! I'm disabled and spend my days caring for my two rescue furkids – SueSue, 9; and Ladybug, 5. Both are rescues in Sanctuary (forever) status.

I love to hold and snuggle my dogs, brush their hair, give them massages, play toys, and otherwise spoil them rotten! We even have special toys that make noises, and a food puzzle to play with thanks to a gift from one of our doggie guests, Starr!

The dogs all follow me around in an entourage, whether I'm watering all my flower gardens or doing housework. They're just my babies! Boarding guest doggies are NEVER in a kennel unless I leave for a brief errand, for their own safety in a strange environment. And then, they are in a huge 5X3X4 feet open wire kennel filled with cushy blankies and toys, snacks and fresh water right in the living room with the other dogs.

All of the dogs sleep wherever they wish (with me) in the living room on their choice of numerous comfy beds, pillows, or their choice of couches and chairs with fresh clean quilts for coziness.

No more tearful goodbyes as you drop off your fur baby at the boarding kennel! No more guilt trying to have fun on your vacation! No worrying at all!

Instead you can relax knowing your doggie is enjoying lounging on comfy furniture, taking a dip in the wading pool (supervised!!), watching some Dog TV or Animal Planet, or cuddling up with Auntie Sheila for a nap! Or in nice weather I'll go outside and sit on the covered patio with them while they go around being doggies reading all the pee-mails in the huge privacy fenced back yard. The dogs are never without supervision indoors or out. If it's freezing outside, I'll put a nice warm sweater or coat on your doggie if you forget to bring one.

You can be assured your doggie is receiving their medication on schedule and being fed what you specify. While you're away, I send frequent updates to you with news on how your doggie is doing with lots of photos and videos!

I've cared for blind or disabled dogs, diabetic dogs requiring insulin injections, dogs with food issues, and many infant and elderly dogs requiring extra TLC, medically or otherwise. I'm very experienced in handling doggie medical emergencies and administering first aid, including dogs with seizures. For our blind guests, we take special safety precautions and have "blind-proofed" our back yard for their safety. Along with all dogs, they receive direct constant supervision.

I have more than 15 years' experience in caring for blind dogs, like our frequent visitor Sam shown in the first photo with Ladybug. I am very skilled at getting blind dogs to feel safe and acclimated to their indoor and outdoor surroundings while relieving their anxiety and confusion. I use the "umbilical" method of caring for blind dogs where they are on leash by my side whenever they are awake. Once they become comfortable with the surroundings they graduate to navigating on their own when they are ready.

I have always groomed all of my dogs myself and your doggie will be all clean and pretty when it's time to go home. Who knows – they might even go home with a little present from me!

I hope you'll bring your furkid over soon for a meet and greet with our furry family!

Please note there is an extra $10 per-night charge for puppies under one year of age. There is also an additional $10 per day charge for nationally observed holidays, the day before and after.

Also please note that while I accept all sizes and breeds of dogs, I cannot accept dogs who are extremely rowdy and/or jump up on me at the meet and greet. This is for medical reasons.

I'll look forward to meeting you and your furry kid at your free meet and greet visit!

Sheila was a terrific host! This was our first time with DogVacy, and she made it such a breeze. She was quick to respond to any and all questions, and gave us daily updates. Terrific!
No words can describe how great of a sitter she truly is. Sheila is a true dog lover and she's got a gift with the way she can handle, train and take care of not just her own, but several dogs in her home. I can't thank her enough for being so flexible and reasonably priced and of course just all around AMAZING! (Text/Pics messaged to me while I am away from my dog are so thoughtful and shows she really cares!)
