Rock It Dog Training and More is run from my home. I have a thorough background in dog training starting at the age of 13 but was learning what I could independently since 9 years of age. I also took part in a 6 year partnership/apprenticeship with a local dog trainer at the age of 18 helping at out with youth dog agility training. Most recently I completed a 2 year volunteer position as the Obedience Trainer for a youth dog training group that competes in various dog sports
I am extremely passionate about training and competing in dog events but work a day job(4am-1pm) to pay rent. I believe in creating a healthy relationship between dog and owner based on science and personal experience.
In addition to dog training I also offer in your home pet sitting and visits while you are away. I have experience with dogs, cats, and freshwater fish but am not scared to try caring for other types as well.
About My Methodology:
I'm not a pushy domineering trainer which is often taken for incompetence by people but anyone who's talked to me about dogs can attest I have the knowledge.I am all about positive reinforcement but I don't deal in clicker training.
My availability for training is after 1pm Sun-Friday and after noon on Saturdays. I am willing to train dogs at my home during the day but only have an outdoor dog run for overnight dog stays unless dog is put in crate at night.
I am most skilled in teaching Basic Manners and Obedience which is most of what the average dog requires: Sit, Down, Come, Walking nicely on leash, and Off (getting off people and objects).
I also have the knowledge to deal with most aggression issues and have dealt first hand with dominance and possession aggression.
Tricks wise my dog knows a handful but each dog will have its strengths and weaknesses with tricks for example my dog can't beg because of bad balance on hind legs.
On a more personal note I am the proud owner of a rescue Border Collie who I've had since he was 8 months old. I also own and live with 4 cats and a large fish tank. My dog and I before his joint problems came to be known earned our AKC Novice Agility titles in both Standard and Jumpers courses and before that we competed in Novice Obedience but it wasn't either of our favorite sport. Most recently we have begun training for Nosework competition but are doing amazingly well for being an older dog and human team.
