My name is Rachel and I have lived in Vancouver for all of my life. I have been a dog lover since the day I learned what dogs were. My family got our first dog, a wheaten terrier-cocker spaniel mix, when I was 8 years old. My siblings and I were responsible for feeding, walking, and caring for Charlie as a team. We got a second dog when I was 13 years old, and the two of them didn’t take long to become best friends. As Charlie reached his 17th year with us, we decided to get a third dog to help with the transition. I was the primary caregiver for these dogs when my parents went out of town, which happened quite frequently. I have experience caring for a senior dog up to his last days when he required assistance walking, eating, and going to the bathroom. I also have experience with smaller, timid dogs, as our other two are maltipoos. One of our maltipoos suffers from severe separation anxiety so I’m familiar with those traits. I have now moved out of my family home, and live in a two-bedroom apartment on the arbutus walk in Kitsilano. The neighbourhood is filled with dogs and parks, and is the perfect area for walks.
