Hi - My name is Julie. I live with my husband, Dale, and my brother, Ken. All three of us adore dogs and wish we could adopt more. While it's not in the cards for us at the moment, I thought puppy sitting, walking, and check-ins would be a way to share the love!
I do have a small, 35lb Taiwanese Mountain Dog named Moca. She a (fun!) nutcase, who loves to run, play, and snuggle. She is great with other dogs and welcoming with them in our home. Moca is also kind to puppies while teaching them the ways of the world.
Moca was a street dog in Taiwan, so I've learned a lot from training her. I'm hoping we can translate that to other dogs. My training is done with high praise and healthy treats - all positive! Because of her past, we know to keep all things out of reach (food, remotes, iphone cords, etc.).
It is important to know we have two cats in our house. Both are friendly to (or could care less - typical cats) about dogs. However, I do want to make sure that a small animal/cat aggressive dog would not be in the house and able to harm them in any way. Please consider this when booking.
For feeding, the cats eat on top of a table to allow them safety (see picture). There is plenty of space to separate the dogs for feedings as well. Moca is not food aggressive, but I always play it safe.
My husband and I are very active people. We generally take at least 2 hikes a week and multiple daily walks with Moca. Additionally, I run a few times a week and am always happy to bring a pup with me. We frequent Point Isabel, Fort Funston, Tilden, and Wildcat Canyon.
While we don't have a yard, we do have a small back patio if your dog likes to lay out in the sun like ours. There are plenty of squirrels and birds to watch too! We live in a townhome that is gated. Moca and the cats' favorite feature of our house is the stairway (see pic), which allows for crazy runs and play chases. The house is almost all hardwood and tile floor, which means easy clean up if there are accidents. The upstairs has 2 bedrooms, in case any one would need a little break from the others.
We take weekend trips up to Tahoe frequently, so we may not always be available to sit in our house. Once we establish a comfortable relationship, I am open to bringing vacay dogs up to Tahoe (with parent approval, of course!).
I look forward to watching, walking, and playing with pups - they're the best part of life after all!
