About Bruin

9 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
Welcome to our house! Ruby (the dog) and Bruin (the human) just moved to Central Vermont from the West coast and live in a gorgeous former sugar house in the woods on five and a half acres with a brook and a creek to romp in with our friend Alexa (another human) and Bill (the cat)!

Going on vacation yourself?--give your sweet canine friend their own vacation they will never forget!

We had a ton of dog friends in the Bay and are super excited about making new dog friends in Vermont!

Bruin is self employed so he's around a fair amount, and Ruby loves meeting new friends to cavort with.

We board all sizes and sorts of sweet dog friends. Our preference is to set up a Meet'n'Greet first to make sure that it's a good match but with enough information, we can make exceptions for out of towners looking for a good resting pad for their pup.

Depending on Bruin's client schedule and your location, we offer pickup and dropoff services for an additional fee in addition to boarding.

Bruin was awesome! He sent pictures of our dog Elliot with his dog throughout the weekend. He was very thorough in asking about feeding schedules, leash usage, and all other logistical questions. Elliot seemed to have a great time, and even got to go to the beach! Beats the local kennels by a country mile.

In summary: great guy, great experience.

Thanks, Bruin!
Bruin and Ruby were fantastic and Brinkley, I think, was happier with them than with me!!! Bruin was extremely accomodating, kind and thoughtful. He texted me about Brinkley's time with them and entertained me with photos. . .which also put my mind at ease so I could enjoy my niece's wedding without worry! He even met me outside a restaurant where I was to deliver Brinkley to me. Can't say enough about how absolutely wonderful Bruin is!!
Bruin was a great host! Very easy going with little dogs. Chicken misses hanging out!
Alas, it has taken me a little while to get back here to write this review for Bruin, but that is not for any lack of appreciation, gratitude, or joy at finding him (and Ruby!) just in time. For us, first time boarders, and having recently moved to Vermont, we were feeling completely at a loss as to what to do with our nearly 10 year old dog, Juan, when we had to leave the state for a week and a half. We would NEVER use a kennel, as our guy has anxiety issues, is a rescue, and does not like crates/cages. With no family around, we took friends advice and checked out dogvacay...

Perhaps it was fate that we found Bruin, perhaps it was just a serendipitous event, but whatever it was that led us to his doorstep, we are forever grateful. He is THE BEST. He is easy to communicate with, and very understanding of each individual pet-owners needs, worries, and preferences. He takes time to really get to know your dog- and reports back to you while doing so! He talked to us about what he thought were Juan's desires, what his personality was like, and how he thought he would do with Ruby, in a new place, etc. Maybe its his impressive intuitive nature, maybe its the fact that he is clearly a seasoned dog guy, but he was spot on with identifying what Juan's needs were, and how to make him the happiest guy possible. We asked for a couple "trial" sessions, and it was no problem to arrange. Bruin and his little Ruby are quite the pair! Ruby is energetic and sweet, and VERY good with other dogs. Bruin took so much care to communicate with us both during the trial session, and every day while we were away. The photos and videos he sent us got us over the parental "anxiety hump" of leaving Juan behind, and brought smiles and tears of joy whenever we viewed them. It was clear from Juan's enthusiasm, wagging tail, and grin, that he had the time of his life staying with Bruin and Ruby!

I could not possibly recommend Bruin highly enough, especially to those nervous to leave their beloved pets behind for the first time. Bruin will not only take exceptionally great care of them, but he will do wonders to calm your nerves! What a great guy! We will be booking with Bruin and Ruby again, and are sure that Juan will look forward to more adventures with them! Thank you, Bruin!!!
Being first time "boarders" for our beloved Juan, Bruin was very thoughtful and patient with helping us arrange several daytime "meet and greets" as well as a trial "daycare" run. We have every bit of confidence in Bruin's love and compassion, as well as skills working with dogs. We were super happy with how all of the trials went and so will gladly board our pup with Bruin when we are away!
Bruin and Ruby are awesome hosts! Chicken always has a great time during her visits. Lots of playtime and trips to the beach and dog parks. Plenty of time to run around. Chicken's tail always wags happily when we arrive at Bruin's place. I know she's excited to be there.
Leaving your dog with Bruin is like sending your dog to camp. Bruin really understands dogs and has fun with them.
Lovely person, lovely home. Bruin was extremely flexible (he took our Rudy at a moment's notice when I went to the hospital to deliver our baby!) and took her on exciting excursions. The pictures he sent of them snuggling put my mind at ease at a time when I really did not need an added worry.
Bruin took excellent care of my two dogs while I was away. One dog is elderly and the other has strict dietary needs and he was able to accommodate both with no problems. He was also very flexible when bad weather prevented us from making it home on time and allowed them to stay an extra night. He sent updates and pictures throughout our trip. The dogs were tired and happy when I picked them up. Thanks Bruin!!
Wonderful experience! Bruin was flexible with times and sent pictures of my doggie while I was away. And my little guy had the time of his life. It was literally like having a home away from home. I will be back! Thanks Bruin and Ruby
As always, Bruin did a great job of taking care of Ruby and making us feel at ease while we were out of town.
Bruin and Ruby were excellent hosts! We left our pup, Chicken, with them for 6 days and she was happy and playful upon our return. Bruin sent me plenty of photo updates during our time away and we could see that Chicken and Ruby (both little terriers) were having a blast playing, running on the beach and exploring the yard. Bruin was easy-going, friendly and responsive. Chicken is looking forward to her next visit and I highly recommend them.
Bruin and Ruby were amazing hosts and our dog clearly had the time of his life during his stay! My wife and I are very selective about who watches our dog while we're away. Usually he stays with my in-laws, and we typically plan our time away around their schedule. But this time they were out of the country, so we had to find alternate arrangements. At first we were worried we'd have to leave our dog in a kennel, but we were lucky to instead find a lovely, warm home for him to stay. Bruin was wonderful, sending us photos of our dog having a great time on walks and short videos of our dog and Ruby playing in the backyard. Clearly Bruin loves dogs and provides the ideal home-away-from-home environment that would win over even the pickiest of dog parents. We are very glad to have found Bruin and Ruby and can definitely vouch for them being incredibly great hosts!
Bruin is the best. We left our dogs (2) with him for ten days and when we came home they were happy, healthy pups.
We have used Bruin a few times and are always super pleased and happy. I trust him with our babies in any situation. He is really communicative, always sending images and videos of our dogs playing and updates on how they are.
He is the best and I highly recommend him
Bruin was such a lifesaver being able to accommodate Logan at such short notice (one day). Plus, it was a relief knowing he would stay in such good company, Ruby, and if anything were to happen to Logan, Bruin is insured. Loved the pics and video I was sent while away. I know Logan can't wait to come visit again, which he will!! Thanks Bruin! :)
Bruin was an amazing dog sitter! I left my two-year-old poodle mix with him for two weeks while doing research in another state. My pup has separation anxiety, but with the help of herbs, exercise and love, he does fine. Bruin was great about giving my dog herbal tinctures in his water bowl and taking him to places like the beach to run around. Bruin texted me updates and photos of my dog frequently and I came back to a happy, relaxed poodle! I would highly recommend Bruin as a dog sitter, especially to dogs with any kind of special needs.
Brilliant! Molly is a special pup with anxiety issues. With Bruin she has been superbly taken care of. And with Bruin's help I got the push that I needed to get he to a vet and her anxiety treated. Way beyond expectations!!
Bruin is exactly the type of person with whom I want to leave my dog. He is warm and caring, responsible, professional, and has great communication skills. He has a nice, safe, fenced backyard and gave my dog plenty of exercise outside the home. His little dog Ruby is very sweet and was a great companion for my dog. I recommend Bruin 100% and would not hesitate to leave my dog with him in the future. Thank you!
Bruin was wonderful... My pup Cooper came home heappy and tired. Bruin sent lots of pictures of his adventures and it was clear that Bruin takes a lot of care with the dogs he watches. He was incredibly responsive on all fronts and I would not hesitiate to recommend his services to anyone who wants top quality care for their beloved pet.
This was our first time using dogvacay.com, so we were a little nervous at first about leaving Murphy with someone we didn't know. After meeting Bruin during our meet and greet, our fears were allayed. He clearly has a lot of experience and knows and loves dogs. While we were gone, Bruin kept us up to date with pictures and commentary, and we felt assured he was in good hands. When we picked Murphy up, he was happy and tired. We'll definitely use Bruin again and highly recommend him.

Bruin was a wonderful host to Suzy Q. She came back happy and tired, an ideal state for her. Bruin picked up on all her ways from preferring to sniff than walk, not wanting much walking since she’s 13, being a picky eater, to her thoughtful consideration of any and all opportunities and requests.

We’ll definitely be back to book Suzy Q’s next ‘vacay’.

Thanks Bruin,

Paul LaBerge
Bruin is the best dog sitter I have met. We have two dogs that are both very different in their needs, and Bruin takes care of each of them superbly, giving a lot of attention and care. He takes them out for long hikes and walks and is really attentive. He sends photo updates almost daily (which I love) and our dogs are always happy pups when they come home.
I highly recommend Bruin to everyone!
Leaving Bo with Bruin is not like boarding him. It's like sending him to camp. I'm sure he has a great time and he's treated well.
We had our two dogs--one puppy hound and one elderly terrier--stay with Bruin for two weeks while we were away for our wedding and we couldn't have been more pleased with the care and attention Bruin gave to our dogs. We were nervous to leave them, especially the puppy, and Bruin did a wonderful job watching them.
Our puppy had a little stomach flu/bacteria issue and Bruin took her to the vet and stayed with her until late hours into the night/early morning. I highly recommend Bruin as a doggy host.
Bruin did a great job of taking care of my Bichon mix, Boo Boo while I was out of town for a month. So when i needed to go out of town for X'mas party, I had Bruin took care of my dog again. Bruin was responsive, flexible and professional, he even offered to pick up Boo Boo since it was a rainy day. He really made some headway on Boo Boo's shyness, house training and socialization with both other dogs and people last stay and communicated with me with emails and photos while I was gone, and Boo Boo had a fantastic time with Bruin and his dog, Ruby. He definitly going to be my petsitter from now on.
Thank you, thank you and thank you. My dog had a great time staying in his place.
I had to go out of the country for a whole month and Bruin took care of my dog very well. Going to the beach, trails and on top of that she learned a few tricks too. Definitely going to need his help if I need to board my dog.
Thanks again, Bruins you the man!!!
