I'm Amy, and people have trusted me to care for their pets since I was about 10 yrs old, and even majored in animal science & zoology in college. Animals in my care also benefit from my training in canine (and equine) massage, and a reiki level II certification. I believe clear, consistent and positive training with loving leadership goes a long way to enjoying our dogs in lots of different situations, and tapping in to their potential too. A tired dog is a good dog, and a trained dog with their drives fulfilled is one happy pup!
My intent is to always create and maintain a harmonious pack with the animals in my care, and we implement a combination of dog training and dog psychology. I will also always inform you of what other types of dogs will be boarding here, so that we can decide if this is the right place for them at that time. (Sometimes I will block availability when our pack seems full, but I would still be available to answer messages).
Your pup can stay with us for an indoor/outdoor, long day of play (up to 12 hrs!) for only $25 - so much better than a crate all day! OR, for only $15 more, they can stay with us overnight too (up to 24 hrs). There are also opportunities for weekly rates and longer term rates, just ask!
We have a comfortable, non-smoking home, and there is a nice sunny indoor napping spot for the dogs with their own blankets, and they are also welcome on the sofa. Your dog will be welcome to sleep in a bed with the other people and dogs (if they can stand the snoring that ours do!). In cold wintery weather, the pups also enjoy napping in front of the cozy fireplace - what a life! We don't use a crate these days, but if your pup does, please provide it, and I'll follow your instructions to keep your pup/s in a similar routine as much as possible to maintain their well being and sense of stability. Our house is a split-level style, and so if a pack member needs quiet time, that can be provided too.
We have a fenced yard, very convenient for anytime bathroom breaks and unlimited supervised play, and we live in a wonderful place with plentiful walking paths in wooded areas. Plus, it's not a far drive from our house to the dog parks and dog beach, and if you approve, your pup might get a field trip or two. At our house, your dog will enjoy unlimited fun in a contained yard area, we have tug and fetch toys, and if they are good on leash, they'll get three walks or more each day, be included in household training exercises, and all the belly rubs and affection they can stand.
Your fur baby will have plenty of companionship, exercise and nurturing at our place. We are always home - we even home school, and I schedule errands and off site appointments around our boarder guests, so that they get maximum attention and supervision. My teenage son has been around dogs since he was 3 yrs, and he comes to the dog park with us, he is also trained for bike tow running with Lexy, and is used to being an active helper and photographer with pups that we foster or vacay. He knows how to burp dogs, go figure! We are definitely animal advocates all around, and will treat your loved one/s as if they are our own.
I am a worry wart when it comes to leaving my beloved pup with others, which makes me a diligent and caring host, and I will send you pics and updates so you get a glimpse of the fun goings on, and you can have peace of mind - Priceless!
Our girl Lexy is a submissive, and gets along with all dogs, different breeds, ages, sizes (but please no dominant/aggressives). I have seen her crawl on her belly to connect face to face with a teacup yorkie, and play with so many varieties of dogs, from bassett hounds to mastiffs and everything in between. Lexy is such a good ambassador, and her image is being used in the Worthington Dog Park brochure, what a good girl, and great all-around dog. I'm so proud of her, she has learned so much, wearing her backpack on long walks, bike tow running, she has excellent canine social behaviors, and she is a good traveler too. And, she is a very patient big sister to Mabel, that might make her a saint. :)
Our newest addition is Mabel, she is barely 1 year old, and has brought goofball puppy energy back to our house. Mabel is still all puppy, a little socially awkward, still learning cues, but sees all other beings as potential playmates, and loves to chase, wrestle, tackle, tug, chew and snuggle (with people and other pups). I am looking forward to more rigorous training with her, once Mabel's physiology allows it. Our two bully girls keep us laughing, active and a little crazed on a daily basis, and are quite used to dog visitors coming and going. Our girls are highly social, very excited to meet new friends and play, but do not guard resources, and are quite used to sharing our affections too.
Both of our girls are about 45-55 lbs, but we have had wonderful hosting experiences, and provided wonderful vacays for many different sizes of pups, from 5 pounds at the smallest, to 120 pounds largest. The better you know your dog, their wonders and warts and all, and the more socialized they have been, the more fun we can have, and we'll customize their stay so they can have the best time possible!
We have had many different pets over the years, including mice, rabbits, gerbils, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and we'd be happy to vacay any caged critters of yours too. We can keep those cages in a different room from where the dogs go, and give them quality attention separately. Please ask for a custom quote if you have a combo situation!
Hope to hear from you, and integrate your pup (or other) into our pack!
At a special rate, I am also available for coaching/training if you want to expand your dog's mental & physical exercise to bike tow running (appropriate for 25lbs and over).
I can also share my 20 years of hands-on therapeutic experience, and coach/train you how to give your dog a simple massage. Our dogs, no matter what the breed or activity level, benefit from massage just like people, so please inquire about how you can learn to provide that therapeutic nurturing for your special pup!
