About Karen

14 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
I am a professional animal care taker (zookeeper), with a degree in animal behavior and have a ton of experience with animals WAY harder to deal with than dogs! I have also worked in an SPCA shelter and for 2 years as a part-time dog trainer. I currently have a young dog that is great with other dogs and could use some occasional friends/doggie sleepovers! I'm comfortable with just about any dog (or cat, or gerbil, or duck...) but they must get along with other dogs and not have any severe behavioral issues (aggression) to stay with me. I can provide training, nail trimming, baths, and a plenty of snuggling and play time! I can deal with animals with some medical issues or separation anxiety, and am willing to abide by whatever the rules are for the dog at home - crating, allowed on beds, couches, etc. I do go to work from 7 AM to 3:30 PM every day, but rest assured, pups will be fed and exercised immediately before and after my work day. After work, there is ample time for playing in my yard, walks, or a few small training sessions. I am capable of working with any dog, but would prefer pups that are fixed and house broken.

Karen is soooo knowledgeable about animals (it's her profession!) and loves dogs, and that makes her a great dog sitter for the dog. But for the humans she is genial and flexible and on time and a pleasure to meet.
My dogs looked great when I picked them up. I like that Karen has a fenced in yard enabling the dogs to go out with no leash.

My older dog has diabetes and Karen had no problem with her injections.

I plan to ask her again when the need arises.
Karen formed a wonderful bond with Rosie by making sure she visited her several times before the reserved appointment. Karen is a wonderful person who is confident and amazingly responsible with all tasks concerning my sweet old dog. She made me feel I could leave Rosie in her care without any worries! I love the photos she sent to me with a personal message about how Rosie was adjusting without me around... Karen won my heart also with her warm and peaceful personality and gentle tone! I highly recommend her for dog sitting!
Karen kept us updated on Sabrina and was very flexible about drop off and pick up times. She seems like a very passionate caregiver and Sabrina was content and worn out when she got home (despite being too shy to play with Karen's dog, Pretzel). We would definitely leave Sabrina with her again!
Karen was a great dog sitter. She was quick to respond to messages and accommodated our schedules with delivery and pick up times. Our pup Birdie loved playing with her dog and came home exhausted from all the fun! Highly recommend especially for playful dogs around the age of Pretzel!
Karen was amazing. She was very accommodating to all of my needs as well as my pup's. She is very knowledgeable which made me feel extremely comfortable leaving my dog with her, and she sent me a bunch of updates and pictures in which my dog looked like she was having a blast. I will definitely book her again.
Karen clearly loves what she does. She was sweet and affectionate with Charlie when she said good bye and he came home ready for a long nap! I think he had a lot of fun with his new friends Karen and Pretzel. We will definitely contact Karen for our next trip! Thanks Karen for making Charlie feel at home while we were gone!
This was my first time using DogVacay (or any website for that matter) for finding a dog sitter. I was a bit nervous about having a stranger in my house caring for my pets while I was away so I spent a good bit of time searching through profiles and reading the fine print on the website. I ultimately selected Karen because she had considerable animal experience, was comfortable with administering meds, and she also had the 'background check' badge on her profile which made me feel more at ease about having a stranger in my house. We initially did a meet and greet to make sure she got along well with my pets and to make sure she was up for the challenge to care for my crazy bunch! Everything went well and we booked her for a long weekend. We got timely updates whenever she was at our house (which was something we specifically requested and she was happy to do so) and upon our return all our pets were happy and healthy. I was worried given the number of pets we have (2 dogs and 3 cats), but she was up for the challenge and didn't seem to have any trouble with them. Walking, feeding, administering meds for all for all of them is a lot of work and so I was impressed she was able to get it all done and still agree to petsit for us again! Will definitely be using her again.
Karen was great! It was so great to go on vacation knowing that our dog was well cared for and treated like one of her own. We will definitely use Karen again in the future!
Karen was so helpful with picking up my dog. She took care of everything for me since I had to be out of town before sunrise. She sent me a photo immediately after she picked up my dog which I was so happy to see as I was nervous about not being able to make sure she got to her vacay alright. Karen made me feel totally at ease
Karen always goes above and beyond with our pets! We love the pics she sends us, letting us know the dogs are happy and having fun. Plus, she's willing to do extras to make our lives easier, when needed (like this time, dropping the dogs off at the vet for some of the stay, when she was unable to keep them the entire time due to scheduling conflict). We can't say enough good things about her time and effort with our dogs. It's hard to find a place or person to trust with these furry family members. But our family gives Karen a huge thumbs up!
Karen was great! Satchmo and her dog played for 10 days while we were out of the country and seemed like he had a great time when we picked him up! Definitely would recommend Karen.
My dog had major vision/mobility issues and required serious care (medication, utilizing a harness to support his back legs, travelling down a ramp to go on walks). Karen did an amazing job and then some- I trust her completely and give her 100 stars!
Karen did a great job with my corgi Dylan. It was the first time he has ever been away from me in his 2 years. I felt very comfortable leaving him. She said he was very sweet and behaved himself. Thank goodness! She even sent me a photo of him. I would use Karen again.
Mo loves staying with Karen and her pups.
My wife and I stumbled upon Vacay and Karen by accident while searching for a kennel for our Boxer and Boston Terrier. After doing some research on this site and on Karen's background, we decided to give them both a try. Turned out to be the best decision. And we will continue to use them both. Can't say enough good things. Easy and efficient site. And Karen was super reliable and competent at caring for our two dogs for an extended period of time. She's friendly, communicative, responsive, and qualified in animal care. We have high standards, and she exceeded them. Read her credentials on the Vacay site. She also sent us photos on a regular basis. Not really sure our dogs were happy about leaving her because they seemed so happy and content in the photos. As stated, we could go on and on about Karen (and Vacay). We will gladly answer any questions anyone has about Karen because we owe her that for such a job well done.

Guillermo seemed very happy when he got home. Karen said he did great and really enjoyed playing with her pup. I will definitely book with her again and recommend her to anyone.
