I have had cats and dogs my entire life and as an adult have been sole caretaker of at least one dog for the last 10+ years. I like the intelligent active breeds - border collies and aussies and that is what I have now. I love training them and taking them on all my adventures with me and giving them lots of exercise on a daily basis. My best friend Ellie, the black and white border collie, recently passed and I have a new Aussie/BC mix Nuni who is coming along nicely and turning out to be a smart pup with quite a personality.
I have sat for many dogs and cats over the last several years, in friends' homes and in my own home as well. From one cat to five dogs, I have had quite a group! I think it's fun.
I live in a duplex, so it's not huge, but I do have a 100% fully fenced in back yard with backdoor access (not a doggy door), and a basement that the last cat I hosted for a couple months loved to hang out in. I am on a quiet street and there are two large parks on either side of my house. I'm also very close to Goodale Park and I enjoy taking my pup there.
I can feed your pet one to three times per day, administer oral medication if necessary (cat or dog) take it on numerous walks, play fetch in the backyard and maybe teach it a new trick! I've taught my dog to do burpees, to bring me socks and shoes, to ring a bell to go outside and many other things.
I am happy to host any cat and any size dog (even the big guys like a Great Dane or a Mastiff), but I'm not comfortable with any dog that displays aggressive behaviors (including with food and toys). I will only host one client's pet or pets at a time, so they won't be meeting other unknown dogs except my own. As such, they must get along fine with other dogs. My dog is ok with cats.
