About Shauna

33 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
Our home is a place where your pets will be treated like family members and will receive the love and attention that we have always given our own pets. We have had dogs for as long as we've been a family and dogs have been a part of my life since childhood. We lost the last of our 5 original dogs (Haley, Baby, Maggie, Nellie & Emma) about a year ago so we don't currently have any dogs of our own and have decided to offer our home to animals in need of a temporary home while their owners are on vacation or for other reasons are unable to care for them. We have also fostered and cared for many dogs over the years and we are the “go to” people when friends and relatives need a pet sitter. Animals find and make themselves at home at our place as you can see from some of the pics. With the exception of when we go out for an occasional dinner or hour long Taekwondo classes twice a week for our son, there is someone home most of the time. Animals have the entire house as theirs when we're home and when we're gone we put a baby gate at the bottom of the steps that lead to the 2nd floor allowing them access to the first floor unless it is preferred that your pet be crated. I'm a registered nurse in addition to having a pretty extensive history caring for pets with special needs including insulin dependent diabetic dogs and those with various other medical needs including postoperative care. We also have had Bearded Dragons for several years and are experienced caring for their needs and would welcome yours as well other small animals with the exception of cats as I am allergic to them. We have a large back yard enclosed by a 6 foot privacy fence allowing your dog to run & expend energy as desired and our neighborhood has sidewalks with a near by park where we will walk your pet as desired/requested. I know that if I needed someone to care for my pet I would want them to stay at a place like ours.

Shauna and her family helped make our vacation truly relaxing, as we knew our girls Mardy and Lu were well cared for. Their home was perfect for dogs, with a dog bed in the family room and tennis balls in the kitchen. Our Mardy normally sleeps in bed with us, and joined their family in bed right away. Lu is a shy one, but she warmed up as this family is loving and involved. We received pictures and texts, letting us know how well the girls were doing. I hope very much that they will be available when we plan our next trip! We have been hesitant to travel because we hate to leave our girls behind, but not anymore!

Wow! We couldn't find a better sitter for our dog. Shauna and her husband really care of their guests and do know a lot about dogs. Since the meet and greet, we saw their interest on Mojito's daily routine. During the stay Shauna was very responsive and sent great pics. At the end, Mojito came very happy and a little tired of all the play he had.
A plus, is that Shauna has the option for pick up and drop off. This made everything easier for us.
I am sure we will ask Shauna to take care of Mojito every time we need it. This was our first experience with DogVacay and we will stay with Shauna as our host.

You know it's a good sign when your dog comes back to you tired and ready to sleep. Shauna took great care of my energetic pup and I plan on booking with her in the future very soon.
Had another wonderful experience with Shauna, my pup really enjoyed his time with her!
I couldnt have asked for better people than Shauna and John to watch our dog Zeus for the week! They are both very friendly and easy to work with. They took fantastic care of Zeus and sent several photo updates. I highly recommend them and will definitely be using their service whenever we leave town or if we know we will be busy on a weekend.

Shauna and her family were awsome hosts. Our dog Gypsy was treated as we do at home. Gypsy seemed to just fit right in at their home. Shauna sent some adorable pictures of Gypsy and it seems the Gypsy had fun and enjoyed her stay. Shauna had Gypsy for about a week and a half while we got married and went on our Honeymoon. Shauna was also very accommodating as far as drop off and pick up times. We will definately use her service again and highly recommend her. She is an A1 host!

Shauna and her husband John did an amazing job taking care of my Pomeranian, Bandit and my mixed puppy, Colt. I received pictures and updates throughout the weekend, which I really appreciated. One was of Colt in the backyard playing fetch! They were very flexible with my schedule, and were understanding when traffic made us late coming home on Monday! Shauna was extremely responsive via text. I couldn't recommend using Shauna and her husband more, I know Bandit and Colt will be back to visit!

Shauna was an excellent host for our two pups. She sent us daily updates and was more than accommodating to all their needs. When we went to pick them up, it was as though they didn't want to leave because they had so much fun. They also slept the next two days do to being so tired.

We will be using Shauna for all our future pet sitting needs, and I would highly recommend her for anyone else that needs a pet sitter.

Shauna was very nice and it was evident that she loves dogs and knows how to care for them. I had 2 concerns about our dogs' stay with her last week. The first and probably the most concerning was that when I came to drop off our dogs, there was another very large dog in residence there as well. It was not her dog and she had not informed us about the additional dog. One of my dogs gets very stressed out around new dogs. She doesn't really act out except to excessively scratch herself and try to hide or get away from the other dog. I think this added stress is what caused her to dig out and try to get away from the other dog.

That brings me to my second point of concern. I had told Shauna that Kizzi was a good digger but wouldn't dig out if she went out there with her, especially the first time when she is checking out the fence and yard. Unfortunately, she was let out there and she dug out and both my dogs got out in a part of town and neighborhood that they were completely unfamiliar with and we were already 4 hours away. It was very stressful time for us. Dogvacay got involved and offered support and help as they could. Eventually they were found and returned but it was very scary for a time while they were lost.

The rest of the week seemed to go well, after the big dog was removed. Shauna was very upset over the escape and worked very hard to find the dogs.

Shauna and her family did an outstanding job of caring for our Miniature Poodle, Coco. We were gone a week to attend a family wedding and Coco was very happy. She is diabetic, and Shauna was great about following her diet and giving her shots on time. We were so relieved to find someone that we felt comfortable would take good care of Coco. Shauna and her family will definitely be our "go to" pet sitter for the future. Thanks, Shauna!!!

Shauna was wonderful with my dog, she understood his needs and worked really well with him. He always takes a while to get adjusted but she gave him a very comfortable environment and they got along really great! She understands and has the experience to work with even my difficult fella. We'll definitely be back for his next vacation!

Our experience with Shauna was wonderful. She did a great job interacting with my dog, followed our care instructions and sent updates during the visit. Her yard is a great place for outdoor play and she welcomed the dog as a part of her family during the visit. I will definitely use her again.
