PET-SITTING BACKGROUND - A native Texan, my first love was animal husbandry and I began helping out at Dr. Woodson's Animal Hospital at 13 yrs old in my Texas hometown. There hasn't been one year in my life since the age of 5 when I have been 'petless'. We had a small farm and a working ranch during the summers growing up; I am an experienced equestrian as well as comfortable around all types of critters. In 1998, when I moved to Boulder, CO to teach elementary school, neighbors began offering to pay me to take their dogs out in the snow. Being from super-hot Texas, my dog, Boy, and I were thrilled to run and roll in the snow several times a day! Ditto, during the beautiful summers there. Eventually, I began using the business name, "Have Leash, Will Travel" to differentiate my name from my teaching career. When I walked dogs, they always went with Boy as well. In 2004, when my parents were ill and aging, I moved back to Austin, TX and started my business up again - for friends at first, then professionally. When I went to register my domain and dba in 2010, I found someone in Littleton, CO had adopted my business name, so I simply added an 's' turning it into "Have Leashe'S' Will Travel". WEBSITE - While I am trying to find the time to create my new website around my new pet-sitting business name - Paws 4 Grins - which is a reminder to take a pause during your day to laugh and love your [or someone else's] pet! - I've yet to do so as most of my business steadily comes from vet clinic referrals and word of mouth. JOB HISTORY - I have enjoyed success as a teacher, realtor, and executive secretary. Currently, I am studying for a career in IT while substitute teaching and servicing my regular pet-sitting clientele. MY HOME - Although I no longer own a dog, I do have a loving rescue cat, Kachi, as well as many adopted wildlife critters [most of whom are permanently injured] that I feed and allow Kachi to walk alongside me with a harness to get outdoors. At any rate, we love to have one dog over at a time, so long as he/she is small and not a chronic barker, due to neighbors. For sure, all pets love 'Aunt' Sandee coming to take them out or play indoors during the day as well as feeding and TLC by the bucketsful! REASONABLE RATES - Ultimately, I want people to be able to afford to keep their pets by offering a service to help them out. Too often, there are issues such as separation anxiety and 'accidents' from not being taken outside and other situations that eventually turn against the animal. Sometimes, this leads to their being given up for adoption which further perpetuates their plight. By offering my services for a small fee, I can give back a teeny bit of the tremendous joy and peace animals have brought to my life.
