First, it is important to mention that we only host specific dog breeds. Those breeds are BOXERS, AMERICAN BULLDOGS, and any variant of the AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE / AMERICAN PITBULL TERRIER breeds.
These breeds sometimes represent a challenge for some dog hosts. They are not a challenge for us, but the extra care and attention that these physically-strong and head-strong breeds require is the reason our rates are higher than most DogVacay hosts in SW Florida. The return on that INVESTMENT in your dog's care is that they will be the ONLY dog in our home when they are here. This will be THEIR PLACE ALONE!
We live on the 2nd floor of a 2-story condo at the end of a cul-de-sac in a VERY SAFE, DOG FRIENDLY community. Lots of friendly dogs to meet on walks and for playtime on our park-like grounds. Our home itself is VERY DOG SAFE, having been setup to accommodate the comfort, safety, and security of our (late) Boxer, "Bob". Your dog will have full run of our home, unless there is a concern that they might want to "mark" their new territory. If that is the case. Our very large (enclosed and air conditioned) lanai will be converted to a very comfortable "dog room" for them, filled with plenty of clean, soft things to lay on, plenty of toys to play with, their food and their water - and also us (we will always be in close contact with them so that they never feel alone). We have baskets and boxes filled with clean dog toys which your dog is welcome to play with. Every dog even gets to choose a toy to bring home with them at the end of their stay.
Another advantage for your dog is that our home will belong 100% to your dog (as we no longer have a dog of our own), so there will be no chance for any dog vs dog competition or conflict. Your dog will receive 100% of our attention and time. He or she will not be subjected to the type of stress all too common when a dog is residing in another dog's territory. Your pet deserves nothing less than 100% comfort, security, and a completely peaceful and stress-free experience when staying in our home.
We have lived with dogs all of our lives and have lots of experience with puppies and adult dogs, large and small.
We are well read and experienced in the matters of dog behavior (we had to be with a highly intelligent and head-strong dog like the boxer we had for 10 years). We trained our boxer using the approach that a dog is a "pack animal" and instinctively, a dog responds best to a cohesive, secure, safe, and well-led pack environment. Dogs benefit most when they receive clear messages, positive reinforcement, and guidance through patience, understanding, love, and support. We are willing to accept dogs into our home who have minor behavior problems (almost all dogs have some small issues of their own), but we would prefer not to host any dogs with potentially serious problems such as aggression, nervousness/fear, destructiveness, those that are incompletely housebroken (unless they are puppies), or those with uncontrollable compulsive behaviors (such as continuous barking). It is important to us that our pet hosting clients have done a good job of training their own dogs. When we have our initial “meet and greet” with you and your dog, we can talk about these things if you think there might be a behavior problem we should know about. No dog is automatically disqualified though - we give all our 4-legged friends a fair chance to prove themselves. We really want them to succeed in our home. That's a WIN for you, a WIN for them, and a WIN for us.
About our "best friend" - Our dog was a large male boxer who suffered with serious (congenital) heart desease and cancer issues. Through our dedicated love and care for his special needs (special diet, medication, complex feeding/walking schedules, Etc.), he enjoyed a very high quality of life until he lost his battle at the age of 10 years 4 months. During that time, we became very experienced in caring for his health and comfort. We are also very "tuned in" to how a dog feels physically and emotionally. We know how to read their special dialect of body languange very well. With our experience, we are very comfortable caring for large (strong) dogs with big personalities (we actually prefer large dogs, but we welcome dogs of all sizes).
We are located adjacent to the Coconut Point Mall in Estero, centrally located to the entire SW Florida region of Naples, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, and the surrounding communities. For health emergencies, Florida Veterinary Referral Center & 24-Hour Emergency and Critical Care is a 7 minute drive from our home.
Thank you for your trust.
