As a recently retired energetic social worker I decided nothing would please me more than to spend quality time with dogs as they have always been one of my passions.
My home is one filled with plenty of love and tenderness for at least one more pet at a time. My "girls" and I have a regular playtime everyday for which they remind me when I''m delayed.
I think that play time is important for our continued relationship and efforts to keep them alert and involved as a "family member"
My "girls" have a deck that they enjoy sitting on while watching the birds and resting after running around the fenced in yard of which is approximately 3/4 of an acre. Indoors we enjoy plenty of cuddling and some treats as appropriate.
I thoroughly understand the necessity for a reliable, trustworthy individual as our pets are a part of our family and should be cared for as would any another family member. I really do understand the pet-human connection.
People have mentioned to me that they now feel comfortable taking vacations as they know their pets are safe and being loved in a family-like environment. Even those at whose home I have stayed have stated their increased comfort level since I started watching their beloved dogs.
The only requirements I would have for my home is that the dogs are current on vaccinations and free of any communicable disease. If a bond hasn't begun within 2-3 visits I may refuse services as I think it is paramount for an animal and it's sitter to develop a bond of trust and comfort so as to prevent stress and separation anxiety. Most seem to enjoy seeing me which pleases both owner and my self.
