*PLEASE NOTE: WE ALWAYS HAVE AT LEAST 5 DOGS IN THE HOUSE. THEY RANGE IN SIZE, AGE, AND BREED, AND AT MEET AND GREETS, THERE IS A LOT OF BARKING AND PLAYING.
We are a family business. We have been providing pet care & exercise in and around the northwest Chicago and bordering suburbs for over four years and have worked with over 200 dogs.
One of the services we offer is home boarding. Our home is modest (1200 square feet), but we have a 6ft fence, and our home is the liveliest on the block. Our boarders are guaranteed:
Lots of love & attention!
Never to be left alone
Socialization & play with other dogs
Lots of backyard play time, secured by 6ft fences and double-locked gates
Pics and texts/emails
Be rest assured, that your dog quickly becomes one of our pack. We do everything together and no one is ever left alone in a room, in a cage or in the house. Everyone in our house loves dogs. Boarding your dogs with us is as much a vacation for them as it is for you!
The following is a list of FAQ which may answer a few of your preliminary questions:
Tell us about your history with dogs:
We have decades of experience as dog owners and have worked full-time with dogs since August 2012. We have worked with dogs of all sizes, ages, temperaments, and special needs. Many of the dogs we've worked with had never been boarded in a kennel or a home.
Do you have any breed/age/size preferences?
We welcome all sizes, breeds, and ages. However, we do have a few requirements:
Dogs weighing over 20 pounds must be able to climb up and down the stairs by themselves;
All dogs must be up to date on rabies and flea protection; bordetella protection (flu shot for dogs) is highly recommended;
All dogs must be clean and free from odor; otherwise, a $20 bathing fee might be assessed.
In order to provide our guests with the best care possible, parents are asked to complete a detailed questionnaire that helps us develop the best individualized care plan for their pets. This questionnaire is available at our website: thedogjog.us.
How many dogs do you board at a time?
What items should I bring?
As few as possible. The basics are
We have several dog beds, bedding, toys, and bowls. If you choose to bring a dog bed, toy, or other item, we cannot replace it if it gets torn, soiled, or destroyed.
How do you handle puppies and rambunctious dogs?
Like most humans, dogs need structure, consistency, and clear boundaries. We remain calm and assertive when unwanted behaviors occur. We use the key words and actions that you use to discourage or encourage behaviors.
In addition, like humans, need lots of attention and exercise. Rambunctious dogs, therefore, may need more than a walk; they might need the challenge of jogging and running. Puppies need to play and socialize. Our sheepdog loves to play with puppies, and we almost always have at least one canine guest to help your dog feel welcome.
How much time do you plan on spending with my dog each day?
Your dog will never be alone, so the answer is "every waking moment."
Do you have reliable transportation in the event of an emergency?
We have two vehicles and two licensed drivers. We can transport even very large animals safely and easily.
Where will my dog sleep?
Your dog will sleep where you think is best. Some dogs prefer to sleep in a crate (we have 1 crate in the living room). Your dog is welcome to sleep on our couches or on bedding in the living room or bedroom floors.
Do you offer discounts?
We are limited to boarding 3 dogs at a time and this site charges us 15% of our rate; therefore, our standard rate is $35 per 24 hours. However, we offer a 10% for stays exceeding 7 days and a 10% discount for 2 or more dogs.
PLEASE NOTE: unlike other hosts, we do not charge for a "night"; we charge for a 24-hour period. Therefore, if your pup checks in at 8 a.m. on a Saturday and checks out at 8 p.m. the next day, Sunday, we would charge for an extra half day.
Are you comfortable administering medication and supplements?
Yes. We have worked with clients who need ear drops, eye drops, pills, and injections.
Will you keep me informed of my dog's stay/progress?
Communication is vital, and, fortunately, in this day and age, it is easy. My wife and I both have Android cell phones. We send texts or emails with pictures. Feel free to call me or text me anytime. I quickly respond to text, phone, and email messages.
What's your cancellation policy?
We have a very flexible cancellation policy. We do not require advance notice to cancel a reservation. We will give you a 100% refund even if you cancel on the same day your reservation takes place.
Help! We need someone right away!
Same-day service is often available.
Can we drop by anytime to visit?
Sure! We have an open door policy. But call us/text us before you come over; we might be walking, at the park, at the pet store, at the beach, at the forest preserve... well, you get the idea!
Besides boarding, what other services do you provide?
Overnight pet care in your home
