About Ian M.

2 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
Greetings.

I was raised with a menagerie of animals, from fish in the pond and aquariums to frogs, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits, cats and of course, dogs.

It was always my goal to have a dog as an adult, but I thought I would have to wait until I had a place with a secure back garden/yard. Until such time, I was the one my friends called on to dogsit for them, and I loved it every time. June of 2015 changed that when I took in a stray who followed a friend home. She changed my life, and we both saved one another.

Since then, I've discovered more and more that I'm good with dogs and (usually) they are with me. I'm the person you see at parties getting down on the floor with the dog of the house. I'm perfectly fine just being down on their level and quiet with them and I think that is what they appreciate most.

After a long career in I.T., I am now self-employed as a Voice Artist, and I work from home as I built a sound booth here. As any newly self-employed person knows, finances can be and usually are rather tight. When I saw the ad on Facebook, I thought this might be a perfect way to help give back to dogs and their companions (for all of the love and support they have given me, particularly, of course, Bailey) and to earn a little extra as I grow my business.

I have no formal training, but I can promise patience, attention, playtime and companionship for your friend. I have a large, dog-friendly home which they are free to roam. Usually, they particularly like running the long hallway as we play together.

For any bathing, I use only hypoallergenic, paraben and sulphate free shampoos.

Walks are generally around the neighbourhood which has plenty of trees and grass.

To read about Bailey's story and see some of the (many) pictures I have of her, have a peek here:

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers.

Ian has been our go to sitter for several years when we go out of town - sometimes for weekends and usually twice a year for a couple of weeks. It is clear he loves our dogs and our dogs love him back - they are always thrilled to see him! We have two fairly large dogs: a pit/mastif and terrier/lab and they both think Ian is fantastic. While leaving them for a week or two can be hard on us, it is made so much easier because our dogs love being with him. For them it is like having a favorite uncle come and stay. Ian is also really responsible with our house, keeps it clean and in perfect shape (and he keeps an eye on things for us as well) along with keeping us regularly updated with photos and texts - which is very reassuring for us. We are always thrilled with his work. If you care about your pets, don't hesitate to make him your sitter!

Ian was an absolute pleasure to coordinate with! Before Tilly's vacay he arranged for a meet and greet with his lovely dog Bailey to make sure both pups would get along fine. While I was away I received regular updates and knew that my darling Tilly was in good hands and getting all the love, care, affection and walks she could hope for. I highly recommend Ian and I'm sure Tilly will be more than happy to go back once her next vacay comes around!

This is the second time our dogs stayed with Ian, this time, for a week. We would still recommend him without reservation, and will utilize his services in the future. Here is why: During the stay, on Christmas Day no less, one of our dogs had a medical issue that was no fault of Ian's. Ian took the entire situation seriously, contacted us, and took our boy to the vet. Ian stayed there until Fitz was cleared to go home later in the evening. Anyone can watch a pet who is doing well. However, it takes a mature, grown up individual to handle the unfortunate situations that will no doubt arise with pets. Ian proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is that person, and we are very glad we chose him to take care of our boys.

I normally take my dog Raz to LA Dogworks and while they're great they can be a bit pricey as well as being a bit out of the way from where I live.

Having used DogVacay before and having had really good experience with it I decided to use it find someone closer to where I live.

I came across Ian's profile, liked what I read and made a reservation for the next day. Since I was a new client and he has a dog of his own he asked for a meet and greet which I gladly accepted.

Raz and I walked over to his place where we found Ian and his sweet playful dog Bailey sitting outside waiting for us.

Raz and Bailey hit it off with Raz running around exploring Ian's apt. I was a bit concerned that Raz's high energy might put Ian off but he was pretty easy going and to really like Raz. After about 15 minutes of us talking about our dogs and watching them play Ian agreed to watch him for me.

I dropped Raz off the next day at Ian's for the dyad when I came back to pick him up Ian let me know that Raz had been very friendly and affectionate with him and had played a lot with Bailey. He said he'd be happy to watch him again.

I'm pretty sure Raz had an enjoyable day because he was pretty tired on our walk back home. I would definitely be happy to have Ian watch Raz again and would recommend him to anyone that asks.

Our dogs had a blast with Ian and Bailey! I can tell Ian clearly is a "dog" person. It shoes by how well behaved Bailey is, and by how quickly our dogs took to him and his environment. We will definitely utilize Ian's services in the future, and recommend him wholeheartedly!
