About Maia

13 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
I love dogs, and they love me! More than that, I have professional animal training experience as a force-free trainer, who uses positive reinforcement to reward great behaviour and increase it. I have trained horses and dogs for 10 years and love working with animals. I have experience in dog sports, too--in agility, rally and obedience--for fun and competition.

When I come to care for your dog, you can be sure that I have the knowledge and experience to make sure everyone is safe, happy, healthy and having fun! You can also know that I truly love animals and bring patience, kindness and the right touch of silly to make it work for your pet.

I typically adapt my walks and games to a dog's interest and ability, and set up challenging and stimulating experiences for them that engage their bodies AND minds. When I'm with your dog, my attention is on them, and so they get much more out of their time than they would on a usual stroll. You can also be sure that I will not reinforce unwanted behaviors, am comfortable with reactive and shy dogs, puppies, boisterous adolescents (and adults) and can be part of the team you need to work toward your training goals. I know LOADS of fun training games, and will play them with your dog--most dogs end up begging for more games!

I'm also very comfortable with other animals, and can watch horses, livestock, cats and kittens, reptiles, birds and rodents. I can give medication, both oral and shots, and clean cages/crates, etc..

I also offer formal training services, and can combine them with other services for a special rate!

Maia is a DOG WHISPERER. Seriously.
She's helped us with several of our rescues, and two of our competition dogs and I've never felt calmer and more sure that my dogs are in the right hands. She's kind, gentle and understands animals and people. She can explain exactly what your dog is feeling and show you how to read them. She's knowledgeable about dog health and how to give medications and has even spotted an emergency before I did in my own dog! She also knows just how to be silly and fun and get a dog playing. I never leave my animals with other people ( I've heard too many stories of dogs being hurt, jerked, etc. by "trainers and sitters"), but I have no problem leaving them with Maia and her recommended alternate.
