About Mariellen

40 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
I was in the restaurant business for 46 years. Why?? I truly loved it, not so much anymore. My body had been telling me for a while, but this is the only business I've known. I had already gone the owning route(DON"T DO IT!!) also, so I was a little lost.

I called my good friend Kathy, I knew she had been dog sitting in Port Charlotte Florida for a while, so I asked her to tell me about the company. She thought it would be perfect for me. She has known me since grade school and knows my love for animals and knew most of the ones I had been blessed to have loved and been loved by. I myself have had 11 pups and dogs 13 kittens and cats, birds, dwarf bunnies, fish, turtles amd my horse. There were also my family and friends, some of which I lived with at different times. I have been adog sitting as long as I've been babysitting.

I don't have a large home but my heart is and my home is warm and cozy. My yard is totally fenced in and behind me are woods and trails that take you to where the ocean meets a freshwater pond. I am 2 houses from the beach which you can walk for miles. If you have a swimmer, they"ll love it. I am on the bay ,so no big waves.

I have a calico cat, Paddy (found on St. Paddy's Day) only now. My 2 sister Pittys previouslyI passed and I'm not ready for another at the moment so would love to cuddle, snuggle and love your animal as it were mine. If you are coming or going on vacation or need a work sitter or a day alone, I hope you will allow me to take loving care of your pet. Give me a try. Thanks Mel

Mariellen was willing to be so flexible about our very early drop off which I really appreciated. Maisy seemed to enjoy her week-long visit which included time with another lab or two - and a beagle! We'll be back!
Mariellen is the first host that I have used through this website and I would recommend her to all. My 1.5 yr. beagle stayed with her along with 3 other much larger dogs but right from the beginning was having a great time and seemed like he didnt want to the leave their company by the end. Great pet sitter!
Waldo only spent 1 night but Mariellen sent us updates & photos so we could see how he was doing. She listened to our concerns about leaving him, was very caring towards him, aware of all of the personalities of the dogs under her care & easy-going which is exactly what we want in a sitter. We will definitely have Waldo stay with her again.
Mariellen is wonderful. She made us and Max feel welcome from the start. When we were delayed 2.5 hours from our pick up time, she made sure Max was fed. This is exactly why we choose not to use many of the mass boarding facilities. Knowing Max was loved and cared for brings great peace of mind. Thank you Mariellen.
We were so happy to find Mel! Our dog, Marley, was there for five nights over Thanksgiving with three other dogs, and based on the pictures Mel sent us, he looked very happy. A lovely woman, who lives right near the beach in a quiet community. Will definitely use Mel now over the kennel every time we go on away without the dog.
Mariellen was amazing with my dog Junior. She knew my fiance and I were nervous as we have never left Junior with anyone before. She made him so comfortable in her home and sent us pictures daily so we too could relax and enjoy our mini vacation. I would recommend her to anyone.
Mariellen is a terrific dog sitter. My dog warmed up to her right a way. He loved being able to go outside and explore in her fenced in yard. I also really appreciated the pictures of him that she texted and her flexibility in drop off and pickup times.
This was the first time I had to leave my dog in a new place and I was a bit worried about it and trying a new method. Mariellen was great. Sadie opened up to her quickly and I felt more at ease leaving her there. During the weekend she kept me up to date with messages and photos of Sadie playing with other dogs and cuddling at night. I would surely use her again!
Mel was wonderful! Our dogs were very well-cared for. We will definitely call again. Thank you!
This was our first experience with Dogvacay and it went wonderfully well. Mariellen was warm & friendly & showed great affection for my dog. She was very flexible about our arrival & departure times, welcomed Nick to make himself comfortable in her garden and in her home, and had no trouble giving him his oral medication. I would definitely recommend her & Dogvacay and will use it again in the future. What a great alternative to Nick's having to spend the holiday weekend on a concrete floor in a cage with only 3 walks per day!
Mariellen is AMAZING. My two Rotties fell in love with her at first sight. Their stay was perfect and upon arrival to pick them up my big male was curled up sleeping on her lap. Could not have asked for more.
My dog has gotten pretty old and often suffers a bit of separation anxiety. Mel, quickly connected with my dog and he never looked back all weekend.
You couldn't ask for nicer person to host your dog in your absence. My wife and I also really appreciated the pictures she send us over the weekend. Bailey, had a wonderful weekend with Mel.
Mariellen was great! Our yellow lab loved her time here and Mel was very easy to work with. She was very responsive to our questions and even provided updates during the stay. Felt my dog was very safe and well taken care of - definitely will use her services again!
Mel was lovely! We did a meet and greet a few weeks ago to see how our girls liked the space. They loved it. We will be away for a weekend and went ahead and scheduled a "test run" day of daycare. We got to her place around 10:30 am and dropped our two pups off (30 and 50 lbs). There were two other dogs there, which I was initially a bit nervous about, but they seemed to all do fine. The yard it totally fenced with lots of places to explore. There is also a large dog pool, which Layla in particular enjoyed. Mel sent us pictures of the girls on the beach. We picked them up at about 3:30 and Mel said next time we can leave them longer, as it didn't really constitute a full day of care. She is really flexible, and clearly loves dogs. One of the reasons I was drawn to her was that she had several people that have used her multiple times. I will attest to that, and the girls will be staying with her again the weekend we are away (we already have it booked).
Mariellen was great...very flexible for the meet and greet and kept me well informed with updates and pictures during the stay.
My dog, Amos, is an anxious dog but I can always rest assured when I drop him off with Mariellen because she makes him feel comfortable and safe from the start. He feels at home when he is there and can roam freely in her fenced in backyard and anywhere inside. She even takes him to the beach down the street which he loves!
Max went to the beach with Mariellen and his other doggy friends every day. I think he really liked it there.
Mariellen was flexible and attentive with Stella and conveniently located near Newport. Look forward to using her again.
When you first meet Mel, you notice right away that she is an animal lover. It's a great first impression to have when you're leaving your furry loved one in her care. She was very flexible & accommodating.. I had unusual circumstances and a high energy pup..which isnt a great combination. But Mel went out of her way to make my life easier. She sent pictures of my dog at dog was happy. Mel is an awesome pet sitter!

I will definitely use her services in the future.
One of the BEST experiences I have had with DogVacay! My dog comes home and sleeps after a day of romping on the beach. Will be going back to see Mel for sure!!!
This was the first time we had left out six year old Golden with someone other than family. Mariellen was wonderful, welcoming and warm. She made us feel right away that our dog would be well taken care of while we were away. And from the pictures she sent us Quinn had a great time at her sleepover. Will definitely use again.
She is so helpful and always makes sure our pup has a great time!
Mariellen is a welcoming host. She is laid back and I believe the dogs can sense that. Dogs are free to roam the fenced in property and are welcome to sleep where ever they find a comfy spot in the house. Don't hesitate to bring your dog here.
We love to go to Newport but hate leaving our dog at home. We have tried staying in hotels that take dogs but buster our dog always barked when left in the room.
Mariellen's house is the perfect location to Newport. She has a nice fenced in yard ,and her love for animals really shows.
I really think Buster had a nice vacay too, cause when it was time to leave he turned back and ran to Mel for one more petting. I would definitely reccomend Maw and Paws and will use Mariellen again.
From the time of our meet and greet to the time I went to pick up my elderly dog after his first sleep over, it was apparent that Mariellen has a love of dogs and pets in general. When she first met Tigger, she went down on her knees to met him on his level. She has a very pleasant, easy going personality that pets like.

When I picked up my pup today, he was comfortably laying on her side on the couch, without a care in the world. I will be a returning customer, as I am going to book my next visit with her now. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone.
