Who are we and why are we on Dog Vacay?
We are a couple, 29 and 32, who live in a huge space in Ridgewood with our two dog children. We wanted to open up our home to other dogs after caring for so many puppies over the past few years. I also volunteer for an amazing NYC dog rescue that has given me a ton of experience fostering young puppies (as young as 8 1/2 weeks old) for 1-2 weeks at a time, learning about puppy behavior of all different kinds. Two of them ended up as our own dog children, Gansett and Sierra. We live in a very large space (2000 sq ft) with a private fenced yard, a patio to catch some rays, a baby pool for the pups to cool off in on those hot Summer days, a huge downstairs "doggie haven" to play around in, and tons of love and attention to give your pup. We also have air conditioning in all rooms so the pups can stay cool inside. Your dog will be treated just like one of our spoiled dogs- with unlimited love, toys and attention.
So, what makes us great caretakers?
-WE ARE VERY ATTENTIVE AND EXTRA CAREFUL WITH OUR DOGS/YOUR PUPS-
We NEVER let our dogs off-leash (that's a no-brainer). Even if a dog is trained to do so, they can still see something that can trigger them into instinctive mode and run off. We also constantly watch our dogs and your dog(s) all around the house and in the yard while they're playing/running around. They can also relax in multiple different cozy rooms and catch up on some zzzs with some quiet time.
-WE LIVE IN A SAFE, SECURE BUILDING-
We have three doors before you get out to the street, and won't we allow any escape artists a chance. The very front door is also ALWAYS dead-bolted and secure no matter what.
-WE ARE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS AND ATTENTIVE ON WALKS-
We have two dogs that would eat anything off the sidewalk if they could- so you can be assured that we are always scanning the ground as we walk the dogs, not staring down at our twitter feeds. Your pups are our priority. Rest assured.
-DOG PARKS DON'T MEAN IT'S TIME TO LOOK ON YOUR PHONE-
We aren't huge fans of dog parks. Some dogs don't do well in groups, and you never know what might trigger a stranger's dog to become a bully. But we do understand that sometimes the dogs need to get out and just run. If you request us to take your dog to a dog park, we will walk them to Maria Hernandez Park. Again, we're always watching the dogs and scanning the behavior of other dogs for everyone's safety. If it doesn't feel right with a group or if there is a grumpy dog at the park, we will leave before there is a conflict. Your pups will be SAFE with us.
-YOUR PUPS WILL HAVE COMPANY ALL DAY AND NIGHT -
I work ENTIRELY from home, so your dog would never be left alone for more than a couple of hours (if at all), and we will be home throughout the night if your pup is staying overnight with us. We also welcome in-home daily daycare. Please inquire about all dates on the calendar as they are flexible!
-WE LOVE EVERY DOG-
All breeds and ages are welcome- from very shy to extremely playful. We also understand that every dog has their triggers, whether it's squirrels, birds, cats, small children, scooters, big trucks, guarding food bowls etc. We want to know what we need to beware of to make sure that your dog receives the best care possible. Please- just no dogs with aggressive behavior toward people or other dogs.
-WE LOVE TO SEND UPDATES AND PHOTOS-
Updates are essential for you to have peace of mind! We respond quickly and send you photos and videos throughout the day. We want you to rest at ease knowing that your pups are getting the best possible care!
-WE ARE ALL ABOUT POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT NO MATTER WHAT-
Nobody is perfect! We will help correct negative behavior with positive behavior through patience. We will ease separation anxiety with plenty of exercise, love, stimulation and distractions. We can also help young puppies with potty training issues in just a couple days and we have plenty of puppy pads to spare. We have no problem caring for older dogs and dogs with special health and feeding regimens. We love every dog from babies to seniors!
