We have a family of dog lovers! My five boys are aged 5 - 11 and love, love, LOVE animals. They have been around little Chihuahua's and large Mastiff's. As long as the dog is friendly with kids they will love being in my home. When they need a break from the kids, we give the dog their space and distract the kids in some other way.
That being said, there is no shortage of people to cuddle with or play with. The kids go to school, so during the day the house is quieter.
We do have a doggy door that our friend's dogs have all gotten used to using. Our backyard is fenced in and has plenty of grass, no pool.
The walks would always be done by myself or my husband. I do not let the kids walk dogs (except our own).
Our own dog, Ike, is a mutt. He is always a little nervous/curious of a new dog for a couple minutes but he is non-aggressive and ultimately always enjoys playing with his new friend. So you must also have a non-aggressive, pet friendly dog.
We look forward to hearing from you and loving on your dog!
