About Julie

8 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
I have loved and cared for dogs my whole life. I dog sit regularly and have a 10 year old rat terrier, Abby, who loves the company. I trained her with Dog Whisperer principles. She's great with other dogs and adjusts to their temperament and activity level. I work mostly from home so I'm usually with the dogs, though in the evenings I often leave for a few hours to tutor.

I prefer to take one dog at a time, but may take two if they come together. I prefer smaller dogs up to ~30 lbs since I live in an apartment, but I'll consider larger dogs if they are calm and friendly and alright in a smaller space. The rates for daily and overnight sitting include at least one walk. If I leave, it will be only for a few hours and I can let the dogs roam the house, put them in separate rooms, or use a kennel, depending on what the dog is used to.

I work well with older dogs and special needs dogs who need a bit of extra attention to make sure they eat their food and get their medicines. For dogs with anxiety issues, I think it's best for them to have a regular sitter -- over the course of several sittings, I've helped dogs go from extreme anxiety to acting like my place is their second home. I also take dogs for extended stay if an owner needs to be away for weeks or months at a time. I also work on leash training dogs who need a bit of instruction to heel on walks.

I live on the second floor, so dogs should be able to climb stairs, or be small enough and willing to let me carry them up and down. To potty, I take the dogs outside (3-5x day) and we walk up and down the sidewalk (in addn to the longer walk) out front where there is plenty of grass and shade. I live in a very dog friendly neighborhood.

Also, I've recently obtained a certificate of completion for the Dog Emotion and Cognition online course offered by Duke! It was fascinating and I learned quite a bit about dog thinking and communication.

And finally, the cover photo of Abby and I was taken by Tim Gostony Photography -- I highly recommend him for your professional photography needs!

Looking forward to meeting you and your pup!

If I could give Julie 10 stars I would. I was in a last last-minute bind because my sister was supposed to watch my pup while my fiancé and I completed our engagement shoot which included our dog for some shots. At the last minute my sister became sick but thankfully Julie was able to step in and save the day to watch our pup for the remainder of the day.
Julie was responsive and easy to communicate with. She gave daily updates. The dogs seemed well cared for and came hope happy. no complaints
Our pups have stayed with Julie a few times now, and, so far, so great! She's extremely responsive, thorough and responsible. I feel completely at ease leaving my two pups with her because I know they will get great care. What I like most about Julie (besides being so available all the time via dogvacay messaging) is that she has a very calm demeanor, which I think rubs off on my pups. Or at least I hope it does! We will definitely be using Julie again -- as long as she'll have us!
Julie and her pup were excellent hosts for our dog. She was incredibly attentive to his needs, sent us plenty of photos, and seemed to keep him busy (with plenty of walks and even a hike) and happy. She was totally willing to work with our schedule, and was very easy to communicate with. Our dog looks forward to a return visit!
I'm so happy to have found Julie on DogVacay! What a lifesaver. She took such great care of our two boys and being that this was the first time we've ever left them with someone they didn't know, I think she did a great job at keeping them calm. I appreciated the photos that she sent and the fact that she let our boys sleep with her on her bed just made us appreciate the extra care that she gave to make them comfortable. Thank you, Julie and the boys can't wait for their second vacay with you next week!!!!
The fact that I have peace of mind whenever I leave my dog with Julie, is an indication of her credentials as an excellent dog sitter. Thank you Julie!
This was our first time using a dog sitter and Julie made us feel very at ease. We were gone a week and she sent pictures every day. My dog came back his usual cheerful self so I am sure he was well taken care of and had a good time with her dog Abby. Highly recommend and would use again.
I was hesitant to go online for a pet sitter but was so fortunate to meet a very trustworthy person, Julie Hoy. Julie gave me daily reports and was very complete and caring for my fur babies as they have meds that need to be taken with special diets.

Thank you Julie!
Julie was great! Quick to respond, very friendly and our Ella was very happy to stay with her. We will be bringing Ella back next time we need a dog sitter.
Julie was wonderful and accommodating as always and Lady loved her stay. Will always come back to her!
Julie is amazing! She is such a bright and compassionate soul. She went so far above and beyond for our little girl Molly (who has many health issues), we couldn't have asked for more. If your little one needs a stable, friendly, supportive home to ease the days you are away, Julie is exactly who you're looking for.
Julie is wonderful as usual! Lady is always very happy at Julie's. My dog often gets very stressed out and anxious when she is away from home but she is very relaxed at Julie's. Highly recommend!
Julie and her dog Abby are wonderful as always!
Julie is super nice and caring. I was very picky about who to leave my old, special-needs dog with, and having a sitter who has a home and not a zoo was very important to me. Julie has one dog who made friends with my dog very quickly. For the first time ever, my anxiety-riddled dog came home happier than I left her! She was actually a little sad to leave Julie's and I am jealous now! Anyway, I highly recommend Julie, she was very professional and will take great care of your dog.
