I live in a one bedroom walkup (3rd floor) in a lovely courtyard building in Lincoln Park. It's about an 8 minute walk from the zoo and very close to several dog parks, ponds, nature areas and the lake as well. I have a very well-behaved and chill 7 lb. Chihuahua/Beagle/Pomeranian mix that has never met a dog or cat she didn't like. She's very friendly but also senses when to be laid back when her attention is unwanted by another animal.
Monday through Friday I typically work full-time hours but I work close to home and my work scheduling is flexible and completely in my control so I always make sure to be home mid-day for an hour or two to spend some time walking or just hanging out with Gigi and any visitors we may have and make extra stops in, if/when necessary. I typically take Gigi and any visiting dogs we may have out for walks 3-4 times a day on average. We love walking by the lake, going to dog parks, snuggling on the couch and sharing snacks when appropriate.
I'm Heather. I've volunteered for many different animal shelters over the years including Animal Welfare League, Kauai Humane Society and an exotics animal shelter called Animals For Awareness in Palos Hills, IL where I worked with exotics animals like ferrets, sugar gliders, skunks, wallabies, an alligator and a lynx. I've also held part-time receptionist positions at veterinary clinics and worked as a professional dog-walker and dog handler for a goose management company. I definitely believe that having a dog as part of your family enriches your life in a way that extends beyond the spectrum possible for most human relationships. I love spending time in nature, seeing animals in their natural habitat and seek awe-inspiring moments in my daily life. I actually just moved back to Chicago from Hawaii where I was lucky enough to see dolphins, endangered monk seals, swim with sea turtles in the wild and perhaps, saving the best for last, adopt my dog, Gigi. Jane Goodall is a huge inspiration to me.
What Heather would like to know about your dog:
I do not accept animals with aggression towards other dogs, cats or human adults. I may accept dogs who can't be around children as I don't have any, but I must be informed of this up front, in the stay request as my nieces and nephews come to visit from time to time and would never want to put them or your pet in a dangerous situation. At this time I cannot accept dogsitting requests for puppies under the age of 10 months in my home out of consideration for my neighbors, however I am still happy to dogwalk and pickup or dropoff puppies to other sitters within a 2 mile location of my address as needed.
When you drop your pet off for a stay, please remember to bring their food, treats, bowls, harness, leash and crate if you have one.
Please let me know of any special needs, limitations or routines you are working on with your pet.
Reviews: I am new to the dog vacay site, but I have tons of experience. Since I just joined and don't have any reviews yet, here are two reviews I've gotten for dogs I've previously hosted through another site, until I get my first review with this site:

I've known Heather for over ten years now and our mutual love of dogs is a big part of our friendship. I've entrusted her with watching the love of my life (Petedog) on multiple occasions and he absolutely adores her. Even my otherwise feisty small dog likes her! She cares deeply about animals, as exhibited by the dedication to finding and affording treatment she gave to her own senior dog when it wasn't well. She's a petsitting, dogwalking, pupcuddling rockstar!

Heather boarded my pup, Picasso, for a week while I was out of town and made him feel completely at home! I received plenty of updates and videos which helped put my mind at ease since my dog has a bit of separation anxiety. Heather even included my dog in trips to the park and cookouts which made him feel like part of the family! Highly recommend this lady for boarding and walking services!
