About T.R.

I'm a dog guy, born and bred (see picture of me with Freddy, my black lab growing up... I don't own those sparkly pants anymore), and am slowly working my way towards having a dog of my own. My travel schedule for work is sporadic enough that I don't think having a dog of my own is the responsible choice, so I take every opportunity possible to lend a hand and borrow dogs from my friends and family (though really, I think they're doing ME a favor).

I grew up with dogs of all sizes, but prefer a pup that enjoys long walks through the city, hanging out in the dog park, and exploring dog-friendly brunch locales. I have also spent a significant amount of time with Lilly, a dachshund who has a penchant for polo shirts, so I'm not above hanging out with a dog with a flair for fashion.

I have a 2BR in Long Island City (Hunter's Point), which is spacious, clean and dog-friendly. I tend to go to bed early and wake up early, so the early morning walks & days spent outside are no problem. If your pup would rather catch up on DVR, that's totally cool too. I tend to think that a tired dog is a happy dog, so I prefer to keep busy.

I can watch dogs during the work week, but would have to either arrange for a walker during the day or have them be ok alone from 8-6. I'm most flexible on the weekends, from Friday evening until Monday morning, when I am around and able to give my full attention.

I look forward to hearing from you! Please let me know if there's anything else that I can share. I know that allowing your dog to stay with a stranger can be tough to wrap your head around, so I'm more than happy to meet and/or speak ahead of time.

T.R. was a great host, he met me at Tompkins Dog Run before I made an official reservation & while Kasha stayed with him, he was quick to reply to email and send updates. Really nice with obvious love of dogs, I would definitely recommend him!
T.R. was absolutely amazing to our pup Twix. This was my first time leaving Twix for a long period of time, so you can imagine how anxious I was, but I could not have been happier with T.R. as her sitter. He was really fast in responding to emails when we were setting up a time to talk via phone, and on the phone - he was great! He asked the right questions, answered all of my questions and concerns on the phone prior to the reservation dates and made me feel more at ease about leaving Twix for the first time. When I met him, he was super excited, he seemed laid back, his apartment was a great space and in such a great area...and I could tell right away that he is such a dog lover, and I knew that he would be a great caretaker for Twix. Everyday that I was away - he sent pictures of my pup at the dog park, of them hanging out at his apartment, and Twix looked happier than ever - which made me SO relieved and SO happy knowing that she was being taken care of. I would high recommend T.R. to friends, colleagues, and family because the whole experience was so amazing - for Twix and for me.

I honestly can't say enough NICE things about TR! For starters, my travel plans were entirely last minute. I sent messages to about 10 potential sitters in my price range and TR was the FIRST TO RESPOND. Mind you he was also the CHEAPEST and the BEST.

Now, my girl is a handful! She's a rambunctious, large, 3 year old pit bull. I wouldn't want to put the task of watching her on anyone, she's adorable and I love her to death, but she can be too much for some people. Not for TR! He was warm and welcomed Bamboo with open arms and I can say without a doubt that she had a great time.

More importantly, TR kept me UPDATED about Bamboo's stay. A text or a photo can go a long way and they certainly let me rest assured.

SIDE NOTE: This is something I just remembered, probably because I am posting this review so late, but TR watched my dog through NEW YEAR'S. That's a big deal in itself! Most sitters were unavailable or wanted to charge double. A thousand thanks to TR.

All in all, TR was an incredible host to my dog. He handled every curve ball I threw at him and then some. I'd recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat and the next time I leave town, he'll be the one I call!
TR was beyond great. In terms of planning, he readily accepted an almost-last-minute reservation (within a week of my trip) and was completely nice and flexible about drop-off times, length-of-stay, etc. In terms of dog care, he was completely at ease with my relatively large sheepdog puppy when we first showed up and obviously took great care of her as she seemed sad to see that I had returned and even more disappointed to leave his nice apartment. This despite the fact that she definitely acted up as a puppy. TR was more generous and gracious than he needed to be, so my only regret is that I didn't give him a better dog to watch...
