We are a dog-loving home. After having a stressful time finding really good sitters to stay with our large-breed girl while we are out of town, I realised we could be offering this service to others looking for a great place for their pup while gone, who don't want to kennel.
We adopted our girl in 2009 and have had many adventures together, including driving across the country twice. We are used to walking a strong puller who likes to try to chase wildlife!
Before we adopted Madra, we watched dogs of all sizes for family and friends both in our own home and in theirs. We've sat for a border collie, yorkshire terrier, boxer/ridgeback, lab/german shepherd, papillon mix and dachsund/jack russell.
My husband and I are both comfortable walking and handling strong large breed dogs. I am a huge animal lover and growing up I had a variety of animals including cats, rabbits, dogs, rats, a pygmy goat and horses.
Our single-family home has a fully-fenced (wire between slats), good sized yard for your pal to play in, and walking trails all around the neighbourhood that we walk daily with our dog. We can walk as much as your dog is used to, and jog with them if they are used to that. I work from home, so your dog will be supervised for most of the day, unless I have appointments, which are typically less than 3 hours out of the house. One day a week I am typically out for 5hrs of the day. Your dog should be comfortable for 5 hours alone. Our dogs will never be left alone together unsupervised - we will always separate your dog from Madra when leaving the house. If they are used to a crate they will have that, if not, they will stay in a bedroom.
For new dogs, we will always require a prior meet and greet on neutral territory for Madra and your pup to meet and make sure everyone gets on.
Your dog will be able to follow his/her normal routine of food, walks, etc to make life as stress-free as it can be for them, and for you.
Madra sleeps in her own bed and so to keep things fair we would strongly prefer your dog be happy sleeping in their own bed (not with the humans!) Though we will happily snuggle with your pup before and after sleep time.
I always like to get lots of updates and photos when we are away from our girl, so will be sure to provide you with the same peace of mind.
Dog walks and house visits - I am currently taking clients in the local area for daytime walks and visits. If you are out of the house all day, I'd be happy to visit your pup midday and walk them or let them out for a while.
