About Nick

40 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
We are retired and enjoying our lives as dog sitters. We love the big dogs so bring'em by.

We have been dog owners for all of our adult lives and professional dog (Pet) sitters for 20 years. Our Lab/Sharpei mix loves the company of other dogs. Shes’ playful but will just laze around if that’s’ what your pooch likes. The same goes for our newest family member - a 4 year old Smooth-Coat Collie named KittyCat. She also loves every dog she meets.

Our ½ acre yard gives them room to roam. It is fenced, locked and certainly escape proof.

Things we offer and cautions:

·* Your dog has full house privileges.
* One of us is always on premises to care for our dog and her guests.
* Valet service is available for $10 each way plus .25 cents per mile.
* Texts or email reports and pics of the pooch, daily.
* Dog beds available if your dog forgets theirs.
* $10 discount for your second dog.
* We will NEVER crate your loved one.
* Experience administering meds, oral or injectable.
* Only house-trained pooches, please.

* Only dogs who have been neutered or spayed, please
* ... and we may house/pet sit too, if that’s’ best for you. Diane loves house sitting combined with caring for dogs, horses and other animals.

* Don't forget to look at our reviews.

It was wonderful finding Nick to leave our dog Lexie with. We will not leave her with just anyone, she is our baby. Nick cared for her at his home the way she is cared for in our home. Thank you Nick, Lexie will be back.
We were 100% satisfied with the care that our little Corgi received at Nick and Diane's home. They welcomed her with open paws, and Nick kept us up-to-date with texts and photos of her visit. I'm about ready to book here again.
Nick has always been nothing but wonderful to our little Louie! We love leaving him with Nick always knowing he will be safe and treated as his own.
This was the first time we left our Bud with Nick and he apparently had such a fun time it appeared he didn't want to leave. Nick said he and the Collie named kittycat played all day. Can't wait to go back.
We just moved to the area a few months ago and finding dog care is one of the hardest things when moving. We found Nick Tone and his wife through Dog Vacay and what a blessing! The Tones cared for our furr babies just like we would, they were wonderful! I will definately be calling them for our next vacation. We are so happy we found Dog Vacay and especially the Tones! Our dogs returned to us just how we left them not the stressed state that they can be in when we have left them at other places. We are very happy we found each other! We also loved the daily text updates and photos!
Nick was wonderful, helping us out at short notice and our pup came home happy and exhausted! :)
Nick is a wonderful host! We couldn't ask for more! He treats our dog, Louie, as if he was his own, and even let's I'm sleep in his bed. He gets a lot of attention because he only keeps one dog at a time. Louie still gets socialization because Nick has two dogs of his own, so Louie doesn't get lonely. We would highly recommend Nick to anyone. He's a great petsitter!!
Indie had such a great time with Nick and his dogs that I've continued to use him every time I go out of town. He has a fenced in yard, is home all day to keep an eye on her and lets her sleep in a bed next to his at night. My favorite part is that I receive emails and texts daily with pictures so I can see how much fun she's having. Highly recommend!
We could not have been happier with Nick! The introduction went very well, he was very responsive and our dogs felt right at home from the start. This is really a home away from home, our dogs were in and outside the house and got along great with his dogs. Nick sent photos and updates daily which we appreciated since we do not leave our pups often but when we do we will absolutely call Nick.
This started out as a Valentine's Anniversary getaway for my husband and I and a trip to Nick & Diane's for Gracie. Well, surprisingly, my husband had a heart attack on Jan. 15th and our plans were suddenly changed. That was one of two heart surgeries that were needed. Gracie had missed her Daddy and was so confused the nights he wasn't home. She had her little world all mixed up. The Chief Cardiologist requested that we stay at least 30 miles from him within the next 30 days. So, our trip to Tahoe went away for now. I decided that Gracie deserved a little get away with her friends Kitty Kat and Olive. So, off she went for her Valentine mini vacation. Another fun time at the Tone residence again. Thank you, The Pyle Family
Gracie had a mini vacation at Nick's while Mom and Dad were also gone for a couple days. She played with Kitty Kat & Olive, slept with Nick and enjoyed her time away from home. Thank you once again for taking care of our Gracie.
Nick is wonderful! This is the second or third time our dog, Louie, has stayed with him. When we are away he even texts pictures of things Louie is doing or even just sleeping after a busy day with the other dogs. We feel quite comfortable with Nick and find him to be a very caring dog person. We will definitely continue to use him!
Once again, Gracie had a fun day at Uncle Nick's house. She loves Nick & Diane's pups, Kitty Kat and Olive. I received my daily text from Nick with a cute picture of my Gracie. She was so excited on our drive home, it was excitement from her fun filled day. She always seems so happy and full of energy. Good company at Uncle Nick's. Luckily, she gets to spend Thanksgiving weekend with Nick & Diane too. Thanks so much, we love the Tone Family. Your friends, Gracie, Dehnay & Scott
It sounded like Louie had a great time! He slept on Nick's bed at night, and Nick said he was never a problem. However, he sleeps on our bed, so he's very used to that.
Nick really enjoyed him and said he was looking forward to having him again.
It seems they have a good relationship, and Nick seems genuinely happy to be keeping him.
AND, we are happy to have found him! We will be taking Louie back, I'm sure, in the very near future!
5 Star as always. Beginning to think our Gracie likes it at Nicks place better than home. :)
Nick was awesome. We were out of the country so asked to keep texting to somewhat of a minimum. Although we would always like to hear from him this time it just wasn't possible.
Nick did send just the perfect amount of updates and pictures. Grace Louise surely does enjoy her time there. :)
We are already reserving another date for next week.
Thanks again Nick.
I'm not sure who loves Nick and Diane more....Poppy or me! I am so happy with their care and attention and Poppy has a ball there.....she's one tired girl when she gets back home and sleeps for hours!!
My Poppy has such a fun time at Nick's I'm always fearful she won't want to come home! Nick is simply the best.....can't imagine a more caring, dog loving home than Nick and Diane's. The yard is a wonderland for the pups and Nick's dogs are very welcoming and sweet with the visitors!
Both dogs were well cared for and we particularly enjoyed the daily pictures showing them at play. Nick is truly a dog lover and I wouldn't hesitate recommending him to friends.
Nick is FANTASTIC. We brought our Doberman "Grace" to meet Nick about a week ago. Just a little 15 min intro to see if Nick was someone we wanted watching our baby. Well after about 3 min we knew he was the one we wanted watching her. Nick is AWESOME. (So warm and friendly). We felt very comfortable very quickly. So we decided next, to see how a 1 night visit would go. Obviously we are very protective about our baby.
Well that visit was last night. We couldn't be happier. Nick sent several pics and texted a bit with us making us feel even more comfortable.
So we will certainly be using Nick again. This time for a much longer stay.

Thank You
Dean Carter

P.S. Nicks dogs are very friendly and all 3 dogs got along great. Thank you so much Nick. See ya soon.
The highest compliment I can pay Nick and Diane is that I will not worry when I leave my Poppy with them when we vacation this summer! They are true dog lovers and Poppy was so happy there, playing with their two great pups that I thought she might now want to come home! Nick and Diane have a wonderful yard for them, just the right size and a wonderful shaded porch for a few tired dogs. A really happy experience for all of us today!
Gracie had a wonderful vacation with Nick & Diane. She is treated like family and was loved dearly. I received messages and pictures everyday of Gracie and from Gracie. They made me so happy to see her having a great vacation too. I appreciate the extra care and attention she received with Nick & Diane. Oh, Gracie loves their dogs Olive and Kitty Kat too. She had so much fun with them. We love the Tone Family and we will be back for both daycare and overnight boarding. Thanks again, love Gracie, Dehnay & Scott.
Nick is a wonderful care-taker. He keeps us informed about what is going on with our dogs and sends photos everyday. Willie and Waylon enjoy their time with Nick and we have no worries about them while we are gone.
It's simple: Nick is simply the BEST! We completely trust our dog with him! On top of that, Nick is incredibly accommodating, thorough, responsible, trustworthy, positive, consistent, loving and down right fun!
I'm so pleased with Nick and his dog friendly home and yard! Poppy had a ball with the other dogs and the freedom of a fenced yard. I especially like the fact that Nick only boards two guests at a time. So,in addition to his two great pups, it makes for a nice number of playmates. This was our first daycare experience with Nick and I think everyone is anxious to do it again. Nick and his wife are true animal lovers and it shows. I would highly recommend them to anyone!
My dog Gracie loves Nick and his family. Diane is so sweet and loving to Gracie. Kitty Kat is Gracie's new best friend and Olive is a sweetheart. I feel very happy knowing Gracie is in good hands with people who totally love what they do and show so much attention to making me feel comfortable when I leave. Nick is great with Gracie and by 2:45 pm I had already received 2 pictures of Gracie with his dogs. I actually referred Nick to one of my customers today too. Thank you so much, we are so happy to have found you all. Dehnay, Gracie and Scott
First of all, we LOVE Nick and Diane and are incredibly grateful to have found them! Our dog Zube has become a part of their family. Zube is getting old and on his last visit with Nick he was acting lethargic which led into a more serious illness. Nick immediately notified us of Zube's nature and kept a close eye on him. Nick took Zube to the vet and provided Zube with a home-cooked diet, extra TLC and consistent updates! Our vet has since commented several times that he wished all dog sitters could be as well informed, caring and receptive to animals as Nick is! Nick tediously nursed Zube back to health~ We are head over heals with Nick and Diane Tone!!! They are wonderful beyond words~
Nick is wonderful and always takes great care of our dog Kipper. This time our dog was with Nick for two weeks and our trip was made easier knowing Kipper would be loved and well cared for. Everyday we received a picture and note from Nick which also made our trip great. Kipper was happy & healthy when we picked him up.
This is the second time we have left Savannah. We think they did a great job caring for her. We couldn'tbe happier. Knowing she was safe and sound made our trip that much more enjoyable.
My wife and I have a 3 year old border collie who is VERY active. Perhaps we have set the bar too high for our expectations in a dog sitter. We are a very active couple. We live in Tahoe and Zeb is our best friend and he does everything with us. He keeps us honest in this way and off the couch! He downhill mountain bikes, goes on trail runs, hiking, climbing, literally everything. I do not believe Nick is the proper place for a dog who requires high doses of mental interaction, stimulation, and physical exertion. If you have a low key dog that simply needs interaction with other dogs and someone to feed him/her twice a day then Nick may be a proper sitter. I had my doubts upon seeing that Nick and his wife were an older couple but after reading the good reviews decided to chance it. My concerns grew after Nick text us with great excitement claiming to have "worn Zeb down with one game of chuck-it" which he approximated to be a mile and a half in a text he sent us. We chuckled at his sense of accomplishment and hoped that he had more in store for Zeb that day because a mile and a half is a mere warm of for Z. A day or two later we received a text picture of Zeb sitting on a chair in the kitchen. We were alarmed because we do not allow Zeb in the kitchen and he responds well to the command "out of the kitchen". We figured we would let it slide and were happy to get a text the following day stating that Zeb was "the best trained and smartest dog we have ever watched". Unfortunately a day or so later we got a strangely passive aggressive anthropomorphized text from Nick stating that Zeb was teaching the other dogs how to counter surf in the kitchen and steal food. I called Nick immediately. He stated that Zeb must do this at home. I informed him that this is very out of the ordinary for Zeb. I was quite upset and worried about Zeb. Knowing our dog and the breed I am convinced that this behavior was due to a lack of activity and attention. We had a sneaking suspicion after the chuck it comment that Nick would neither be able to keep up nor provide the level of activity needed by Zeb. These sentiments were confirmed when we went to pick up Zeb. Claire had met Nick at the drop off 9 days prior but I had yet to meet Nick or see the property. The House is close to a main road and I was disheartened when Nick showed me the size of the area he played chuck it with Zeb. He even informed me that on one occasion the ball went over the fence down toward the road and he himself had to walk to go get it which I doubt due to Zeb's fervor for ball and ability to jump - Nicks fence is not very high. He also informed me before we left that Zeb had just recently thrown up and had a bowel movement containing the skin of a tennis ball. Again, this is a sign that Zeb did not receive the mental of physical attention that he needs. I found myself feeling upset that our best friend was relegated to this environment for over a week knowing the anxiety he felt not only being away from his people but not having the mental and physical outlets that he requires. Nick was very polite and I did appreciate the updates. This review is not meant to trash Nick down rather to warn people with similar high energy breeds to look elsewhere for a sitter. We will not be giving our business to Nick in the future.
Nick continues to take great care of our girl. He is thoughtful and always texts pictures and updates. Plus, our pooch LOVES his house :)
Very recently we lost Savannah's buddy.

Although, I have a lovely woman who comes to our home to dog sit, she is not there around the clock. I did not want to leave Savannah home by herself, for many hours, as I know she would be very lonely.

Several friends offered to watch Savannah but I was wanting someone close to my home and they are all more than a half hour away.

I was hoping to find someone who was close by , who would be available for short as well as long stays and who would take special care of a grieving dog.

I found Nick, we corresponded and then we had a meet and greet. My husband and I were very pleased as to how Nick handled the introduction between himself, Diane and their two dogs.

We left Savannah overnight. Nick sent several text with pictures attached.

Upon our return Savannah looked relaxed (we can tell when she is out of sorts) and seemed to enjoy being at their place.

Nick and Diane were very pleasant, they seemed very involved in making Savannah's stay pleasant for her and us. We did not worry about her being there and that is a lot to say from two very concerned pet parents.
Nick was great - and we loved the daily text messages and pictures!
Nick and Diane were awesome caretakers for Willie and Waylon. They sent photos and messages during the stay that helped us keep in touch and know what was happening. Willie and Waylon will stay with Nick again in the future.
The best!
Again, I must say, Chester loved his stay with Nick and his family. He will be coming back again and again.
Nick was friendly and welcoming from the first moment to the last. We enjoyed receiving pictures and updates from Nick throughout Chester's stay and shared them with our family while we were away. Chester was happily playing with the other dogs when I came to pick him up and I believe he has found his new home-away-from-home.
Nick is just wonderful! He took great care of our dog Kipper. We got updates and photos of Kipper playing or relaxing everyday. We looked forward to receiving those updates (a picture is worth 1000 words) - seeing Kipper healthy and happy contributed to us have a good time on our trip. Nick and his wife Diane are kind and wise with animals and people alike. We are so lucky to have found them!
Nick and Diane are wonderful with dogs. Zube feels so much like they are family that he jumps out of the car and walks right into their home. And, when it is time to pick him up, he is not anxious to get back in the car! I told Nick that I don't want to be honest with these reviews as this is a Placerville well kept secret~ but fair is fair, they are the BEST!!!!
Hey there!

Nick takes care of our pup for daycare on a weekly basis. His house is safe and secure and our girl is always so tired when she gets home. I trust Nick 100% with our dog. I definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a safe, fun, hospitable place to take your dog!
Nick and Diane are absolute loves! I feel so happy that Zube has found a home away from home in the comfort of Nick's and Diane's care! They are overwhelmingly accommodating and heartwarmingly caring! It is a wonderful thing for sure!!!!
This was a wonderful experience for our dog and the rest of the family ~ friendly, kind, fun! Zube had a ball and came home feeling at ease and happy! Nick and his lovely wife are warm and loving people. Their home is a perfect setting for our dog with plenty of shade and room! We will be back as our Best Friend was treated with the utmost respect and care!!!
Nick was friendly and flexible, and more importantly, we knew that our dog was in good hands. She had a yard to run around in and Nick's two dogs to play with. It was so much better than leaving her in a cage at a kennel. We would definitely recommend Nick!
The reservation process was very easy, and we received a confirmation both from DogVacay and from Nick Tone. Nick called me the morning before we took Sadie there to confirm the reservation and find out what time we were planning to come by. He emailed directions to his house that were easy to follow. We were immediately impressed with the house and the fenced yard. Both Nick and Diane were clearly people who understand dogs. Their two dogs were well behaved and were respectful of Sadie as she explored the yard. I especially liked the fact that Nick and Diane took all three dogs inside before we drove away so that Sadie was distracted as we left. About two hours later, Nick texted a photo of Sadie to show that she was getting long fine. He emailed another photo later that first day. The second day, he texted a great photo of Sadie with a cute message from her. She was clearly well cared for, had fun playing with Nick's dogs. We would definitely recommend Nick and Diane Tone, and Dog Vacay in general. Sadie says "Woof, woof" in agreement.
