Currently I have no pets, but I've grown up with dogs all my life -
Hungarian Puli, Husky mix and Jester a German Shepherd mix who I had to put down in the new year.
I have worked with dogs on a part-time basis as kennel staff for Intelligarde International Inc. in 2007 walking and care-taking for (very intelligent) service protection and bomb protection k-9s and last summer I worked as a swimmer and receptionist at FitDogs in Riverside where I learned about dog dynamics in large groups.
Through this experience as a host I have applied some techniques from my previous work experience with animals that have helped me better handle large groups of dogs as well as aggressive dogs.
I love dogs and miss the void Jester left in my life and would love to help people who need a responsible and loving caretaker for their cherished pets.
I live in a house with a fenced yard situated by the Scarborough Bluffs and there are a lot of great trails and ravines to walk through. My neighbourhood has a lot of dogs also which is great for socializing at Sylvan Park at the end of my street.
I'm also TTC accessible with a flexible student schedule attending Centennial College Morningside campus only 10 min bus ride away from me.
Currently I have school 5X a week with long breaks in between classes allowing me to come home for pee breaks. The longest stretch your dog would be alone for is 6 hours on Mondays. I also have a crate for large breed dogs.
***Right now I finish school on Dec 16th and don't start again until Jan 9th**** FOR THIS REASON I will open my home to MORE than 2/3 dogs to a MAX of 4 keep in mind this all depends on the dogs themselves and their personalities. I plan to communicate to current reservations about meet and greets to arrange a mutually convenient time (usually Saturday mornings) until I am fully booked. I will only accept dogs that will stay well together, which makes my job And your vacation go a lot smoother :)
To keep dogs safe and happy I usually gate the house so they have their own space for when playtime is over or if I have dogs that aren't social. When I run errands while hosting multiple dogs I keep them in a large spare room (see photo ) and one room per dog to avoid any mischievous behaviour while Im gone.
I have NEVER had issues with aggression along the gates, and I've hosted three dogs at once who were not dog social. Im the alpha dog and I have a stern no nonsense demeanour when it comes to displays of aggression towards my other guests :)
