Hi I'm Kira! I'm a 30 year old from the Bay Area who loves animals! I have fostered senior dogs with Muttville as a way to give back to the community. I have fostered lots of puppies and kittens with the East Bay SPCA. I also used to work at a doggie daycare in SF. I try to rescue as many cats and dogs as I can from the streets of Oakland where we live. Dogs and cats have always been a part of my family growing up. My fiance, Louis, and I recently adopted a six year old Basset/Beagle mix (30 pounds) named Bubba. Bubba (who is neutered) is the perfect fit for us since he is used to sharing the household and he gets along well with dogs of all breeds, energy levels and ages.
Louis and I recently moved about 2 miles to a new house in East Oakland that is situated closer to the Oakland Hills. For our returning clients--don't worry our new house is even better with higher fences and a bigger backyard. We both are certified in Pet First Aid & CPR (by the American Safety & Health Institute). We are still located near the Oakland International Airport, the Oracle Arena and the O.co Coliseum...Feel free to drop your pet off while you catch a game or head to the airport! We have experience with senior dogs as well as dogs with aggression issues. We adore pit bulls and have zero prejudice against them. We enjoy keeping pets occupied and comfortable while you are out of town---whether that be at our house or yours. We are clean, quiet and respectful house guests who understand how daunting it can be to trust your home and your pets with strangers. When hired to stay at a clients house I typically stay there by myself, while Louis remains at our home with our dog.
In the morning we feed breakfast and walk the pup 15-20 minutes before heading out to work (as a Business Manager and Handyman in SF). Once we arrive home we feed dinner and take the pup out for an even longer 30-40 minute walk/hike usually in the Oakland Hills or at the Alameda Dog Park. Before bed we head out to the backyard again for one last potty break and play session, plus lots of cuddles! We like to mimic your dog's at-home sleeping arrangement as much as possible and we are really flexible. For the most part the pups sleep in our bedroom either in their own dog bed or with us. On the weekends we enjoy longer hikes at Joaquin Miller Park, San Leandro Marina Dog Park or MLK Shoreline Park. We are happy to give baths and medications as needed. We also have experience caring for bearded dragons, fish, turtles and cats (including administering oral medication to cats). We always text photo updates every other day or so. We always have extra kibble, treats, dog beds and dog toys available to keep things fun and cozy. Our pets are family and we are happy to provide lots of love and support while you are out of town. We look forward to meeting you and your pet!
Drop off/Pick up time frames:
During the work week (Monday-Friday) we require that all drop offs or pick ups for the ~Morning~ happen between 6am-7:30am (before we head to work). Please factor in morning traffic.
We require that all drop offs or pick ups for the ~Evening~ happen between 6pm-10pm.
We understand that flights can be delayed or your car can break down, and we will try to work with you as best we can. However, please keep in mind that 10pm (and 7:30am) are FIRM time limits. If you think you may not make it in time for 10pm (or 7:30am) please just plan ahead and book an additional nights stay from the start.
We also ask that you communicate via text (or the app) AHEAD of time if you are going to arrive Late Or Early (even if this falls within the appropriate cut off times). We are providing an important service and we ask that you respect our time as well.
Special Rate info details:
(1) Holidays = Please note our rate is $60 per night for all Holidays ($45 for the second dog from the same family). We charge holiday rates for the following dates (just that date, not the entire stay): 12/31-New Year's Eve, 1/1-New Years Day, 4/20-Easter, 5/26-Memorial Day, 7/4-Independence Day, 9/1-Labor Day, 10/31-Halloween, 11/27-Thanksgiving, 12/24 Christmas Eve & 12/25-Christmas Day. The end of the year holidays tend to be our busiest time of the year so we only accept dogs who are comfortable in a pack during that time.
(2) Overnight at your house = $70 per night if you live in Oakland, Berkeley or near BART in San Francisco. If you live in the South Bay or far from BART in San Francisco then it's $100 per night. Also if you have additional dogs or pets (cats, rabbits, lizards etc) at your home that would require our care there is an additional fee of $5-20 depending on what the creature would be require.
(3) Puppies = We adore puppies and have fostered them a lot, however puppies take a lot of energy to dog sit since they need constant attention, coaching, clean up as well as constructive activities to expend their energy and prevent them from damaging our property...for these reasons we charge a higher rate of $50 per night per puppy. We consider puppies to be of age 0-2 for smaller dogs (who tend to mature faster than larger breeds) and 0-3 for larger dogs. Meet n' greets are a great way to determine if your dog falls under the puppy category, as every dog is an individual in our eyes.
(4) Dogs who are aggressive towards other dogs = We used to offer this service in our home, but since we adopted our own pup, we only offer this service for staying in your home ($70 per night).
Thanks for considering our services! Please message us if you have further questions.
Boarding multiple dogs from the same family = We charge $40 per night for the first dog, $35 for the second dog and $30 for the third dog (This discount only applies to adult dogs, not puppies and is discount is not valid for holidays).
