About Kira

20 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
Hi I'm Kira! I'm a 30 year old from the Bay Area who loves animals! I have fostered senior dogs with Muttville as a way to give back to the community. I have fostered lots of puppies and kittens with the East Bay SPCA. I also used to work at a doggie daycare in SF. I try to rescue as many cats and dogs as I can from the streets of Oakland where we live. Dogs and cats have always been a part of my family growing up. My fiance, Louis, and I recently adopted a six year old Basset/Beagle mix (30 pounds) named Bubba. Bubba (who is neutered) is the perfect fit for us since he is used to sharing the household and he gets along well with dogs of all breeds, energy levels and ages.

Louis and I recently moved about 2 miles to a new house in East Oakland that is situated closer to the Oakland Hills. For our returning clients--don't worry our new house is even better with higher fences and a bigger backyard. We both are certified in Pet First Aid & CPR (by the American Safety & Health Institute). We are still located near the Oakland International Airport, the Oracle Arena and the O.co Coliseum...Feel free to drop your pet off while you catch a game or head to the airport! We have experience with senior dogs as well as dogs with aggression issues. We adore pit bulls and have zero prejudice against them. We enjoy keeping pets occupied and comfortable while you are out of town---whether that be at our house or yours. We are clean, quiet and respectful house guests who understand how daunting it can be to trust your home and your pets with strangers. When hired to stay at a clients house I typically stay there by myself, while Louis remains at our home with our dog.

In the morning we feed breakfast and walk the pup 15-20 minutes before heading out to work (as a Business Manager and Handyman in SF). Once we arrive home we feed dinner and take the pup out for an even longer 30-40 minute walk/hike usually in the Oakland Hills or at the Alameda Dog Park. Before bed we head out to the backyard again for one last potty break and play session, plus lots of cuddles! We like to mimic your dog's at-home sleeping arrangement as much as possible and we are really flexible. For the most part the pups sleep in our bedroom either in their own dog bed or with us. On the weekends we enjoy longer hikes at Joaquin Miller Park, San Leandro Marina Dog Park or MLK Shoreline Park. We are happy to give baths and medications as needed. We also have experience caring for bearded dragons, fish, turtles and cats (including administering oral medication to cats). We always text photo updates every other day or so. We always have extra kibble, treats, dog beds and dog toys available to keep things fun and cozy. Our pets are family and we are happy to provide lots of love and support while you are out of town. We look forward to meeting you and your pet!

Drop off/Pick up time frames:

During the work week (Monday-Friday) we require that all drop offs or pick ups for the ~Morning~ happen between 6am-7:30am (before we head to work). Please factor in morning traffic.

We require that all drop offs or pick ups for the ~Evening~ happen between 6pm-10pm.

We understand that flights can be delayed or your car can break down, and we will try to work with you as best we can. However, please keep in mind that 10pm (and 7:30am) are FIRM time limits. If you think you may not make it in time for 10pm (or 7:30am) please just plan ahead and book an additional nights stay from the start.

We also ask that you communicate via text (or the app) AHEAD of time if you are going to arrive Late Or Early (even if this falls within the appropriate cut off times). We are providing an important service and we ask that you respect our time as well.

Special Rate info details:

(1) Holidays = Please note our rate is $60 per night for all Holidays ($45 for the second dog from the same family). We charge holiday rates for the following dates (just that date, not the entire stay): 12/31-New Year's Eve, 1/1-New Years Day, 4/20-Easter, 5/26-Memorial Day, 7/4-Independence Day, 9/1-Labor Day, 10/31-Halloween, 11/27-Thanksgiving, 12/24 Christmas Eve & 12/25-Christmas Day. The end of the year holidays tend to be our busiest time of the year so we only accept dogs who are comfortable in a pack during that time.

(2) Overnight at your house = $70 per night if you live in Oakland, Berkeley or near BART in San Francisco. If you live in the South Bay or far from BART in San Francisco then it's $100 per night. Also if you have additional dogs or pets (cats, rabbits, lizards etc) at your home that would require our care there is an additional fee of $5-20 depending on what the creature would be require.

(3) Puppies = We adore puppies and have fostered them a lot, however puppies take a lot of energy to dog sit since they need constant attention, coaching, clean up as well as constructive activities to expend their energy and prevent them from damaging our property...for these reasons we charge a higher rate of $50 per night per puppy. We consider puppies to be of age 0-2 for smaller dogs (who tend to mature faster than larger breeds) and 0-3 for larger dogs. Meet n' greets are a great way to determine if your dog falls under the puppy category, as every dog is an individual in our eyes.

(4) Dogs who are aggressive towards other dogs = We used to offer this service in our home, but since we adopted our own pup, we only offer this service for staying in your home ($70 per night).

Thanks for considering our services! Please message us if you have further questions.

Boarding multiple dogs from the same family = We charge $40 per night for the first dog, $35 for the second dog and $30 for the third dog (This discount only applies to adult dogs, not puppies and is discount is not valid for holidays).

I am super appreciative of Kira and Louis for taking care of my dog Rocco! Kira accepted the job on short notice while I flew to the east coast for Thanksgiving. Rocco is an anxious boy, yet he spent the time playing with the other doggie guests. I received photo updates regularly and I felt comfortable knowing that Rocco was in great hands. Also, Rocco's coat felt noticeably soft when I picked him up. I definitely recommend!

Io, my young female GSP, had a terrific time with Kira and Lewis. Io is inherently on the skittish side, and not used to living with other dogs, and very human focused, but things worked out super well. There's a huge backyard, and Kira also took the pack out on expeditions where lots of merriment was had. I couldn't have wanted or had a better experience for Io, except taking her hunting. There was plenty of affection to go around, and Kira knows how to work with dogs.

Leaving your cherished older dog with someone new for a week can be a little unsettling and when our go-to dog sitter couldn't watch our sweet old girl, we had to scramble. Thank goodness Kira was available and willing to meet our dog.

It was obvious that Kira and Louis have a ton of love for and experience with all types of dogs. Our girl felt right at home when we visited and I felt like she was going to be just fine during our time away.

Kira sent photos of their hiking excursions and candid "hanging out" moments. It was comforting to see that she was in good hands while we were away.

Kira said she'd be happy to watch her again and I'd definitely be willing to bring her back over in the future.

Our pups came home from their vacation at Kira's happy and tired. Sprite and Daisy are vary social dogs and they enjoyed playing with their new friends endlessly in Kira's backyard and home. I would not hesitate to book a stay with her again!
My dogs were well cared for and I loved the daily photo updates. Would use again!
Leia, my sweet Rotti, was is good hands for 5 days! She was surrounded by a nice healthy pack of doggies so she was never alone. The house is dog friendly with a front and back yard for the dogs to roam. Plus the front gate is secure with a lock. I also loved the daily photo updates! I could tell Leia had a ball! I will definitely was use them again=)

Easy to work with, sent lots of great pictures and took great care of our dog and cat, I would hire her again.
excellent! our pup came home exhausted and clearly had a great vacay! Kira & Louis were great hosts, very knowledgeable about dogs and had a great setup, very accommodating, definitely recommend.
I will never recommend KIra to anyone; my dog was not left in the condition I drop her off. She smelled and was wet.
Kira and Louis were very accommodating and good about providing photo updates of our Bessie playing at their backyard.
Kira was absolutely great. My high energy pup seemed to have a great time playing with the other dogs and was totally tired out by the time I picked him up. I absolutely plan to use her again and I would definitely recommend her!
Couldn't have asked for a better sitter for my big doodle. Kira was very flexible with my schedule and made me feel very comfortable. I plan to use her in the near future and would highly recommend her.
Thank you for taking Romeo into your home at such short notice. The picture updates throughout his stay were a nice way to let us know that he was doing alright for the week that we were on our honeymoon.
Kira was fantastic! Our dog, Doug, was a rescue who has had really bad dog aggression issues. We needed someone who would make him feel comfortable, and also someone who would be competent enough to handle Doug and ensure his and other dog's safety. Kira was all this and more! Doug has a fantastic time at her home and came home worn out and ready for a nice long nap! She kept us updated the whole weekend with photos of Doug hanging out playing with toys and snuggling with them. I definitely recommend Kira and will be using her from now on when we're out of town and need someone to watch Doug.

Kira was really wonderful and accommodating despite my hectic schedule. The house is a great set up for dogs and my dog was clearly comfortable and happy there. Will definitely be booking with Kira again when I next go out of town!
Kira had great communication & daily updates of our dog! Our dog came home happy & tired :) We will definitely use Kira again in the future!
Kiera was fantastic! She made sure my kitties were comfortable and set up in an area that was quiet. Daily updates on how they were doing was great and Kiera was very easy to schedule with for vet visits and drop off times. Her home was clean and she gave oral medication to the sick cat. I would definitely recommend boarding your furry friend with Kiera for your next trip.

We were in a bind, and Kira graciously took our dog, Koji, in on very short notice. I thought it would be a bit nerve-racking dropping him off at a complete stranger's home for the weekend, as it takes him some time to warm up. However, upon arriving at Kira's home, I could tell that Koji was in good hands and that everything was going to be okay. Koji immediately felt at home as he ran around their backyard. I love that the yard is completely fenced in and escape proof as well.
When I came to pick Koji up, he was super stoked! Kira and Lewis are wonderful, and I would definitely recommend them!

We absolutely loved Kira, but most importantly, so did our dogs. We got pictures and videos of them throughout the weekend and they went right up to her when they first met her. Highly recommended. She even dropped them off late at night on Sunday!
Kira was great! We have a large dog and a small one and sometimes their interactions with other dogs can be a bit tenuous. She was confident and living in her care for them and was also wonderfully communicative giving reports and sending pics. We are going to use her again!

KIRA IS AWESOME!!!!!

It's not easy to find a sitter for a pitbull, no matter how friendly or well-behaved but Kira has always welcomed our pup with open arms! It's evident that Kira is a true dog lover as our pup actually gets excited when we drop her off to stay with her. I can't recommend her enough - have your pup stay with Kira, you won't be disappointed. The only problem with using Kira is your pup may not want to come home! Seriously we love Kira and we can't recommend her enough!

We are new dog owners (we adopted Cassie from a shelter 3 months ago), and we were concerned about leaving our dog such a short time after adopting her. But as soon as we met Kira and Louis, we knew Cassie would be in great hands. They took excellent care of Cassie.

Cassie's a 1-year old pup and she benefited a lot from being in the care of a pro. Kira was aware of our concerns and sent us regular updates with pics and videos. Our pup had a terrific time and seems to have matured while staying with Kira and Louis.

We definitely would ask Kira to take care of Cassie again. We also appreciated how professional Kira was in all aspects of the process - communication, responsiveness, preparedness, etc.

Kira and her boyfriend were awesome, great communication & Uschi couldn't have had a better place to be at!
Stella had a great time on her stay with Kira and the other pups. I can tell Kira loves dogs and I felt at ease while I was away.
Kira is awesome! Leaving my dog with her couldn't have been easier. She was flexible with pick-up and drop-off times, responsive to all of my questions, and sent regular photo and video updates of my pup while I was away. Best of all, I came home to a happy, healthy dog who had clearly gotten plenty of exercise and care. Thanks Kira!

Kira was great in all respects. She was responsive with respect to arranging the reservation. She sent us updates throughout our dog's stay -- including text messages with pics. Our dog returned home content and tired, and did not appear stressed as she had when she previously stayed at a dog boarding facility. We would use Kira again and recommend her services.

Kira to the Rescue! Due to the recent death of both a relative and a sister dog, we were unexpectedly left with a dog who was grieving and understandably became quite anxious if left alone. Since it was not practical to be with the dog 24/7, we were delighted to find Kira through DogVacay who was able to provide the daily structure & love that was sorely needed at this important time. Thanks, Kira!

Kira was great with my two rescue Chihuahuas. This was the first time I left them with someone else and I was a little apprehensive, but Kira put me at ease. She texted me photos of the dogs doing doggie things with her and she was genuinely loving with dogs that can be more than a little nervous.

Kira and her bf were awesome! She sent me updates and pictures of my babies while we were gone and they clearly had a great time. One of my dogs sulked an entire day after he came home because he missed Kira!
Kira was a STELLAR doggie host/sitter! You can tell that she absolutely loves animals and it shows - both the house and big backyard are open for play and frolicking. Kira was super active and very communicative, and always asked permission when doing something we hadn't previously discussed (ie letting our dog off leash on a hike); plus she sent pictures of all the adventures she took our pup on.

I couldn't recommend a better host - go see Kira!

Kira was wonderful and very sweet! She was super communicative before and during my dog Karma's stay. She sent over some great pictures and I felt really at ease with Karma's stay. Kira was flexible with the pickup and drop-off times, which I didn't know exactly until just a few days before. I definitely plan on reaching out to her again the next time I need someone to watch Karma.

Kira is really nice and very loving towards our dog Yona. Me and my husband came to Oakland to go to an As game before we started our roadtrip to Portland, Or. We needed someone to watch our pup while we watched the game. She lives very close to the colosseum, in fact she offered us to park our car at her place and walk over to the game which saved us money for parking! Kira has a nice little back yard so she had plenty of room for Yona to fun around. If we are in this area again we will be back! Thank You Kira!!!

Kira is great! It was the first time I have ever left my dog with a stranger so I was nervous, but at our meet-and-greet I could tell Sugaree would be in good hands. Kira's place is totally set up for dogs with a nice big back yard. She kept me updated with photos and was very flexible about pickup and drop off time. Communicating was easy, and her house is near the Oakland airport which was very convienient. My dog was well taken care of and happy when I picked her up.
I highly recommend Kira!

Kira was so friendly! I had had a bad experience with a dog sitter previously, and was really nervous about trusting someone new with my baby. Kira was really understanding and communicative and put me at ease. She was so loving with my girl! I would definitely hire her again!

My Fiance and I had Kira dog sitt our English Bully at our place for 5 nights and she did such a great job! We are very picky pet parents and don't leave our boy home often. This was our first time using a sitter and we were very nervous. But Kira was great with Chubbs when she met him. I know our boy can be quite a rascal but she didn't have any problems with him. Everything from the first meet n' greet to getting our keys back after we got back from our vacation went smoothly. We came back to a very happy dog, and a clean apartment. I highly recommend her if you're looking for someone to take good care of your pup while you're away. Looking forward to using Kira again in the future!

Kira was great! She was very flexible with pick-up/drop-off times and sent us photos of our pups all weekend. We will definitely use her again in the future!
Kira was very responsive and flexible regarding timing for a meet & greet and drop-off/pick-up. She sent great photos of our dog on outings during his dogvacay!
Kira was so great! She gave us a tour of her home and her spacious and safe backyard. Our husky puppy was extremely happy when we picked her up. She was also tired and fell asleep in the car, so we know she got tons of exercise. It is obvious that Kira has an extreme passion and love for animals, and I would recommend her to anyone who wants to ensure their dog is well-cared for.

Kira is fantastic- she is incredibly communicative, and my dog just loved her. I received daily picture updates, and came home to a relaxed dog. I would highly recommend Kira to anyone.
Kira is phenomenal - she came for the Meet-n-Greet and instantly bonded with my dog, making me feel super comfortable from the get. She's on time and very sweet - took great care of my dog and my apartment while I traveled for work. She clearly has a passion for canines and has the "magic touch" - my dog is a traumatized rescue and it was clear that she had a great time hanging with Kira - no stress when I arrived home. She's great with people and with dogs and has quickly become one of my regular sitters. Kira is the BEST!

Kira was absolutely wonderful! We did a meet and greet a few weeks before leaving for a 2-week overseas holiday, not having found anyone we really liked yet. Our dog, Naida, seemed at ease with Kira from the start and I liked her calm positive vibe as well. Great at communication, genuine, and eager to help! She has a a comfy house and nice big backyard for the dogs to play in, and also takes them on walks a few times a day. Having lived in her house for 5+ years, she knows all of her neighbors and which routes are best for the dogs to walk. All adjacent houses also have pups so its a canine-friendly area.

Kira sent us pictures every couple of days to show that Naida was enjoying herself, which really made us feel better about the entire situation (we don't normally leave our beast anywhere for more than a couple of nights and usually there is someone home to hang out with 80% of the day). When we came back, Kira was easy to coordinate with and had everything ready for us at pickup along with rave reviews of the stay. Naida seemed very happy and we look forward to using Kira's services again over the upcoming holiday season. Highly recommend her!!!

Kira was great. We needed a safe place for our dogs and it was last minute so we were lucky Kira was available.. Both dogs were relaxed and happy when we picked them up. Will definitely go back to Kira.
We could likely be described as the most anal dog parents that exist. We are very choosey about where our dog will stay or who to trust in our home (it's a curse). We found Kira on DogVacay and asked her to do a meet and greet at our home. Our dog immediately fell in love with her and so did we. She stayed at our home for the weekend while we went out of town. Jackson used to give us the cold shoulder when he was boarded or left home alone. This time he was the same normal, happy dog that we are used to. We will definitely have Kira to our home the next time we plan a get-a-way. She's awesome.

I was really nervous about leaving my little man with a new sitter. He's got a few issues and, of course, I couldn't help feeling like I was abandoning him. But, Kira seemed really relaxed and knowledgeable. She made it really convenient for me to drop him off and pick him up and I got some great photos while I was away, which put me completely at ease. He was cuddling and "smiling" and actually got along with the other dog in the household, even though I was so certain he'd need to be kept separate. When I picked him up, he seemed more refreshed and perky than I was (who's vacation is this, anyway?).

Kira was a great host for our pup. When we picked up our dog she seemed happy and content. Kira was so nice to send updates while we were away. It was such a relief knowing she was in good hands, in a comfortable environment getting the love and attention she deserves. We will definitely be contacting Kira again if we need a sitter.

My dog had a great experience with Kira. He is a senior dog with occasional fear-based aggression and she handled him so well. He spent 12 days with her and she took time to bond with him at the beginning. I could tell from the photos that she sent me daily that he was very happy and comfortable in her care. I highly recommend Kira, especially with senior dogs that may need more attention and appreciation for their senior 'issues'.
