Welcome to K9 Hideaway! Conveniently located just 4 miles from interstate 485, our privately owned 8-acre property sits well off the main road in a relaxing wooded setting. Large, open areas are fenced in for your dog’s enjoyment! At K9 hideaway your dog gets an in-home style retreat with his/her own private bedroom to lounge in, a fully screened in porch to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds, and a full size walk out basement to play in if our weather gets too hot, cold, or wet. Here your dog can enjoy nature walks, time to investigate the acres of land, explore agility equipment, try some K9 Fitpaws equipment, games of chuck-it or Frisbee, and take as many naps as they like.
As your host, I am home all day because this is my full time job. If I go out to run errands or an evening out to dinner, your pup will be secure in our home with an alarm system on. I do have 4 mutts of my own that will be in the home as well, but they can be kept totally separate from your dog if needed. I want all dogs to feel safe and relaxed.
A little bit about me! My first career was as a teacher for children with Autism. I spent 8 years refining my educational skills and using evidence based techniques to enrich the lives of my students and their families. Being a life-long lover of dogs, my first venture into dog training was having my own dog, Shade, certified as a therapy dog for Paws for People. Then, while teaching in Delaware, I helped develop a program that brought therapy dogs into the school to assist children with special needs.
After moving to the Charlotte area in 2012, I could no longer ignore my desire to work with dogs, so I decided it was time for a career change. I began volunteering at the Humane Society of Concord helping in any way I could, including working at the shelter, helping with adoption events, fostering, and assisting with training and rehabilitation. I then spent time working as a trainer for a large doggie daycare franchise where I did private training, board & trains, and held basic obedience classes using reward based training methods. I am heavily involved in the sport of Flyball, training my own Flyball Dog, Nan, and competing regularly with a Charlotte based team called Turbo Paws. After purchasing our home in 2014, I have decided to open it up to other K9 friends who need a stimulating yet safe and relaxing place to be when not with their families.
I will only be hosting one dog or one family of dogs at any given time. If you have a multiple dog family my rate is $37 a night for the first dog and $15 for each additional dog. In Addition stays on the Holiday will be double the rate for that night. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
