About Joanne

20 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
I am a pet sitter for the love of animals, so I only care for ONE family's pet(s) at a time with no other animals in my home to keep the atmosphere comfortable, relaxing and fun for your pet and me. Dogvacay writes I take care of "two pets" at a time, but that's only if they are from the same family.Your pet(s) will get the maximum attention they deserve with no other distractions in my home (other than my lovely husband). I have been a professional pet sitter for fifteen years now, and treat every animal as if it were my own. I started by fostering dogs but when they found homes, their new owners needed vacation sitting. I give pets as much attention and love as I can, which is a lot because I have a big dent in my heart for animals. I have no children and I work from my studio painting, so I'm almost always home unless excersizing at the gym or running errands. Because I work from my house, I am able to give more time to your pet who will need extra love while you are away. I change their water regularly, brush them, clean their paws (especially when there is salt on the streets) dry them when they get wet and most important, I nurture them to pieces.
I live minutes away from the Vet. and if your pet is on a special diet, I will follow your directions to a "T". I give oral medications, and can inject as well.
I consider Tallman Mountain State Park my real backyard since it's one block away, and long walks down the trail are a given (my husband loves to help out as well). If your dog is a runner, I love to jog with pets down the path. I am three blocks away from the mile long Piermont Pier (a very social walk for your pet considering how many dog walkers are there) giving your pet the treat of walking along the Hudson River. I have a six foot to ten foot fence making it easy for early morning or late pee breaks, and if additional stretching and running is needed in addition to the three walks a day I take them on, it's a perfect size for letting them play.
If you allow your pet to sleep on your bed, then I allow your pet to sleep on my bed. They can lounge on my sofa and from the window, watch the action on the street (their very own dog TV). I leave the "real" television on for when I do errands if soothing music is needed. You'll be encouraged to text me as frequently as you need, I understand completely how you may be missing your pet. I know I would.
I live on the NY/NJ border and am 15 minutes North of the George Washington Bridge, so your pet can come to the country and be on its own vacation while you are on yours. I have my regular customers who take the extra trip to come to my house from Brooklyn, Manhattan and Westchester knowing they'll get the best care for their pet (I'm worth the trip).
I'm a former pre-school teacher and am very patient, considerate and understanding. If your dog has an accident on my rug, it's not the end of the world for me. I understand when pets are in new surroundings, sometimes their nerves get the best of them until they adjust. If your pet won't eat due to anxiety, I encourage them by offering the food from my hands - wet or dry, stinky or sticky, etc...
I am fond of older pets as well since they most often are in need of extra attention, whether with medication or tenderness, and definitely need to be kept out of kennels no matter what.
Thanks for reading this book of mine.
I hope to meet your loved one soon.
Best to you!

Once again, Joanne helped to make our time away effortless and worry-free. She takes such good care of our two high maintenance dogs, giving them lots of exercise and TLC that's customized to each of their needs and preferences. (One of my dogs is 3, bouncy and silly, and the other is 11, no less active but much more reserved and serious.) Joanne sends regular communications that always make us smile, and I know she's extremely conscientious. I recommend her for dogcare without any reservations.
My dog Cooper had another pleasant stay with Joanne! It was so comforting to know he was in such good hands while we were away. The daily pictures and updates were so nice to receive. Gave me such peace of mind! I actually thought for a minute that Cooper didn't want to leave Joanne's when I went to pick him up. So obvious that he loves her so much!
I cannot say enough about Joanne. This was my first time leaving my precious 3.5 year old Yorkie...he had never stayed alone with anyone since we got him as a pup. I just never felt comfortable with anyone...and I had tried meeting a couple folks and just did not get the warm fuzzy feeling I did with Joanne. She made me comfortable from the day we met...to his sleepover to the day we picked him up...she kept us updated with notes and pics and I was actually able to enjoy the wedding we had gone away to. I know where my little boy will spend time when we go away on our honeymoon next year! I think Barkley misses Joanne as well...I think we may just have to visit to say hi! We love her and her hubby too! She gets 5 paws up for sure!
Joanne was amazing! We felt so comfortable leaving our pup (Tiller) with her from the first meet and greet. She has a lovely, cozy home with a fenced in yard and plenty of places for him to relax comfortably. She took him on many walks daily, exercised his body and mind regularly, and sent us daily updates and photos. She was always extremely responsive to all communication with us.

Best of all, Joanne works from home, so Tiller was rarely left alone for too much time at all. She is a fantastic person with a great sense of humor and will give your pup all the attention he needs.

Overall, great experience. Highly recommended (as if you needed another positive review after the other 50+ already on here ;)
as usual, little Liam loved his overnight with you !!!
Wow!! We couldn't ask for any thing better than Joanne sitting Lola!!!! She loved staying there, she was happy and that made us happy.
The most important thing for us that Lola felt at home!!
I will recommend Joanne for sure and will definitely ask for her sitting services again!
Joanne was a wonderful host to my 2 dogs. One of my dogs is not always an easy guest, but Joanne took great care of her and made it all seem perfect. Thanks, and I can't wait to see you again!
Joanne is an excellent dogsitter. She took excellent care of my dog Layl, she was easy to get in touch with, sent daily photos, and took Layla on long walks. I'm sure if Layla could talk she would say Joanne was the best sitter she's had. I'll definitely use Joanne for future dog sitting needs.
Joanne is a wonderful caregiver for my dog, Barley. She and her husband only take one dog at a time, which gave them the ability to give him lots of love. Joanne is a true dog lover, and is very thorough and really gave Barley a lot of attention. This time, she watched him for a full week, and took him for many nice long walks. When he came home, he was very calm and contented. This proved that her care and abundance of walking really kept him happy and balanced. I would highly recommend Joanne as an excellent sitter!
Thanks so much to Joanne & Steve. They couldn't have been better. I felt that they gave Ziggy at least as much attention, love and affection as we give him at home. The text and email updates really gave me peace of mind that he was really well cared for. I would recommend them to my best of friends and family.
I recently rescued a dog and got called out of town only a month after getting him. I was so apprehensive to leave him early on. Joanne pet sat for our previous dog for years. I had a feeling that from my other dog's experiences with Joanne that everything would be just fine. I was right! Cooper is only a year old. He has lots of energy. Joanne handled him perfectly! Cooper made himself right at home right away when we dropped him off. He could sense the warmth and love that Joanne immediately gave to him. Joanne was very thorough when reading over the notes that I had left her pertaining to Cooper's routine. We got an email the next morning with a picture. How comforting it was to receive it! Joanne will always be our "go to" pet sitter for every dog we ever own!!
Once again, Joanne provided a wonderful home-away-from-home for my two dogs. She made sure to give them their daily medications, gave them lots of exercise, (even when the weather was crummy) and provided loads of TLC. Joanne was especially caring and concerned when my dogs were frightened during a thunderstorm. In fact, Chili was so scared she was shaking and jumped into bed with Joanne and her husband in the middle of the night. Joanne held Chili and spoke calmly to her and even let her stay on the bed for the rest of the night!

I have been so pleased with the care my dogs receive while staying with Joanne! I never worry about them while I'm away because I know how responsible, sensible and caring Joanne is.
Joanne was excellent with our boy. We don't usually leave him at home, but had no choice this time. We loved the fact that Joanne would only be taking our dog and pampering him as her own. That's what she did. She treated our boy like a king and loved him like we do. She walked him regularly, played with him and let him sleep with her and her husband. During our trip she also kept us posted on how he was doing. We and our pup were so happy with Joanne that if we need to leave him again, we know he has a second place to call home. Thanks Joanne!!
We were very much happy with the experience we had for our dog Betsy with Joanne. The level of care and love that Joanne showed Betsy was unlike anything we have seen from a sitter before. Plus, the fact that she only cared for Betsy during this time was a real plus for us, and we knew Betsy was getting Joanne's undivided attention. I would highly recommend Joanne for anyone looking for a sitter that goes above and beyond.
Once again, Joanne did a wonderful job caring for my two active and messy Bearded Collies! She took such good care of them that they came back home and seamlessly fell back into their normal routines. Joanne is very conscientious about giving the dogs what they need: long walks, outdoor time and lots of affection. The dogs are shaggy, so when the weather is crummy, that means they collect dirt which they unwittingly distribute around the house, but Joanne never complains and in fact even apologizes if the pups leave her a bit dirtier than when they arrived! We've already booked Joanne for another stay this spring and are confident we can leave the dogs with her and not worry a bit while we're out of town.
Jaxx had his 3rd stay with Joanne & he was very happy when we picked him up. We always know he is loved & cared for. He loves all the much needed exercise he gets with Joanne between walks on the hiking trails, runs & playing in the back yard. We feel very fortunate to have found someone that adores and cares for our pup as much as we do!
This was our second time leaving our dog in Joanne's care & that is ONLY b/c she is often booked when we need her. A true testament of what an awesome caretaker she is! She is so loving and sweet to our pup and very accommodating to us. In fact, Jaxx is scheduled to stay with her again shortly! We always feel confident leaving Jaxx w/Joanne
This is the second time my two dogs have boarded with Joanne and her husband, and once again, we are so pleased! Joanne is terrific with my pair of bearded collies. She gives them plenty of exercise, which they definitely need, and lots and lots of love, too. They have long coats, so they get especially dirty and wet when the weather is lousy, but Joanne seems to be unfazed by the mess. She kept in touch with me while the dogs were staying with her, which definitely gave me peace of mind. I am so happy to have found Joanne!
As usual, Joanne was wonderful! Our Liam is totally comfortable there and loves staying with her. He actually misses her when he comes home !
Again, Joanne did a great job taking care of little Liam! She actually gave him a nick name of Boo Boo -now I call him that. She takes him for great runs and gets him lots of fresh air, and also lots of pats and attention.
Finding Joanne to pet sit for my dog Casey has been a blessing. Thank goodness Casey will not have to go to the dreaded kennel ever again! Joanne is so loving and caring towards Casey. Casey LOVES Joanne!! As soon as we got to her house Casey ran up the stairs to her front door. A very good sign that she has been treated well by Joanne and her husband Steve. Dogs never forget! Casey has quite a few medical conditions and is on several medications. Joanne is very attentive in administering her meds, which is extremely important! Casey is partially blind. Joanne skillfully applies her eye ointment everyday. Thank you, Joanne, for loving Casey so much and for taking such good care of her while I am away!!
Joanne was great. Our Harlie had an injury and we coundn't change our plan to be away so our girl was in need of a no other dog vaca with lots of love and TLC. Joanne came through amazingly. She updated us regularly, sent pics and made us feel Harlie was in a good safe place. Much Thanks to her!!!
Liam had a great time being taken for walks and runs. He actually didn't want to come home! Joanne is very caring and attentive.
Joanne is terrific! She is extremely professional, pays attention to detail, and was absolutely wonderful with my two, active Bearded Collies. She gave them lots of love and attention, and very quickly became familiar with their individual characters and needs. I won't hesitate to have Joanne look after them again!
I am so grateful to have found Joanne! My two rescues, Brody and Gambit, are often fearful and reactive towards strangers and can really be a handful. Not so with Joanne- she is so calm and nurturing towards animals that they approached her as though they'd known her their entire lives on our meet-n-greet. While they're typically very fearful of men, they made fast friends with Joanne's husband Steve, who apparently has the same magic up his sleeve. I received daily text and email updates from Joanne, who took them on hiking adventures and showered them with affection. This was their first time staying with someone besides family, and Joanne exceeded my every expectation. My babies came home relaxed and happy, as if they'd been on a spa vacation while I was away all week for work!
Emma spent 3 nights with Joanne (and Steve). This was the first she was ever left other than with relatives in our home. She certainly made herself at home - seemed very comfortable esp. sleeping on bed with her hosts. What a treat to find someone who would allow this. I am sure she enjoyed the walks and runs with Joanne. Emma was happy to see me when I picked her up but continued checking in with Joanne to see what she was doing.Guess she was very happy in her home away from home !! I would not hesitate to trust Joanne to care for Emma in the future.
Extremely pleased. Joanne expressed concern over Bears comfort due to his thick fur coat and high outside temperatures during his stay. She provided creative status updates and we were comfortable that he was being well taken care of.
Joanne is incredible!! I have two rescue dogs, with very unique personalities and they had a blast, and seemed very calm and at ease (not typical when we are gone). Joanne always updates you, and gets back to you promptly with daily reviews and photos. I would HIGHLY recommend!!!!! We will use her again!!
Super-Fantastic Experience! When I brought my two small senior dogs to the meet-n-greet, I had a hunch their vacay was going to work out fine. Joanne seemed to sense right away I was especially worried about their first lengthy sleep away; she paid a great deal of attention to details about their daily care and routine, reassuring me she was going to provide a loving atmosphere. While I was gone, she initiated contact to assure me they were adjusting and doing well, which provided me a great deal of peace of mind. When I returned I found my two doggie babies quite happy to see me! At the same time, they didn't seem upset, depressed or full of anxiety; (nor did they seem particularly anxious to leave.) Joanne is the BEST, and though I'm worried she'll get so booked up, she won't have room for us, I heartily recommend her!
We were very hesitant to leave our dog with a sitter as we have never used this type of service with our dogs in the past and we only had our dog Jaxx for 6 months at the time. During the meet & greet Joanne was very thorough on what to expect and was very attentive to our dog's needs and to especially follow our guidelines so Jaxx would have the same routine as if he were home. She was very careful and considerate to get as many details as possible which I appreciated and felt good about. One of the biggest draws to us was that Joanne & her husband would exercise Jaxx a lot between long walks, hikes & runs which is exactly what he needs! She sent pictures and updates every day which definitely made us feel more comfortable. We were very pleased when we picked him up that he looked so happy and comfortable. We felt very good about the whole experience and will definitely use Joanne again!
I have had my two dogs at Joanne's home several times already. Because Jake and Dixie love it there, I have no worries when I'm away. She has a cozy backyard with a six foot fence so they can run around freely. Joanne is one block from Tallman Mountain, so my dogs are walked in the woods down a lovely path a few times a day. Jake is an older dog and needs medicine and extra care, which Joanne tenderly takes care of. Because Joanne is a relaxed person, my dogs always return to me calm and happy. Joanne keeps them healthy as well, no surprises when they are returned. I don't really want to share Joanne with anyone else but to be fair, if you can book her she is the sitter to have.
This was my first time using DogVacay for my two Chi's. From the very beginning Joanne provided a great experience. Joanne has a great home with a nice backyard in a nice neighborhood for daily walks. She made my dogs feel right at home. You can tell she has a lot of experience caring for dogs. Joanne sent me frequent emails with updates and pictures. I came back to find both dogs happy and healthy. Thanks again Joanne!
I have finally found the perfect pet sitter for my dog Casey!! Casey went right to Joanne because she could anticipate the warmth and love that Joanne would give her during her stay. I have never felt so comfortable leaving my dog with anyone else. Joanne followed Casey's schedule exactly as proposed by me. I received daily emails with updates about Casey. Joanne even sent pictures with the emails. It gave me such peace of mind! Her loving, and efficient ways and professionalism went above and beyond!! Joanne will always be my "go to " pet sitter from now on. So glad I found her!
This is the first time I left my pit/lab mix with anyone and I did so with some trepidation since she had "abandonment" issues in the past. However, after meeting Joanne and her husband I felt reassured that she would be in good hands. Joanne provided a very loving, caring and accommodating "home away from home" for "Sweetie". I particularly liked the fact that she is home most of the time and has a nice fenced in yard for playtime/exercise. I received emails and pictures while I was away and was reassured that Sweetie was having a good time.In summary, Joanne is the best!
Our dog had a great stay with Joanne and her husband. We were lucky to find such caring and reliable hosts and it was comforting to know that our dog was in good hands.
This was our first time using Dog Vacay and we had a great experience with Joanne. Joanne has a lovely home with a nice backyard in a nice neighborhood for daily walks. She and her husband Steve have a very caring nature and made our dog feel right at home - even letting our dog sleep with them! You can tell she has a lot of experience caring for dogs. Our dog tends to be anxious and takes medication. Joanne knew how to comfort Emme and made sure Emme kept eating and taking her meds. Joanne sent us frequent emails with updates about Emme and sent us pictures of Emme relaxing on her couch and stalking her husband Steve (I think Emme has a crush on him!) We came back to find Emme happy and healthy. We will DEFINITELY send Emme to stay with Joanne again. Thanks again Joanne!
Joanne treated our dogs Rookie and Diesel like her own family. What else could you ask for!? Joanne sent frequent and thorough email and text updates to ease our mind during their first stay. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Joanne to any other dog owner looking for a sitter.
My dogs love going to Joanne's. They think they are on vacation as well with their long walks!
Joanne was wonderful!!!
She obviously loves dogs very much and took the time to get to know our pet and his needs. She sent us updates with photos and was 100% available for any questions we had. She was warm and friendly and made every effort to make sure our dog was completely comfortable away from home. We'll definitely use her again!!
Thank you Joanne!!
Joanne is the 'Rockland County Dog Whisperer!'

So we were FIRST-TIMERS, and were EXTREMELY nervous!!!!!! We've never left our fur-babies with anyone besides family. Unfortunately, we recently found ourselves in a bind and were in dire need of a sitter; which led us to this site and led us to finding Joanne.
We have 2 black Pekingese, one of which is a Tea Cup, her name is Gizmo and she's almost 10. The other one is Ozzy Fonzo, and he's 9 1/2. They are both incredibly loving and affectionate dogs, and LOVE attention! However… they also require some strict and serious care taking instructions.
Gizmo is Epileptic (along with a few other minor health issues) requiring 11 pills a day, at all different times. She's also had 2 bladder stone removal surgeries and is on a VERY STRICT diet of Distilled Water and prescription dog food. She can’t have anything else, NOT EVEN A MORSEL! Due to her surgeries and medications- she also produces more urine and requires more potty breaks; as she is susceptible to UTI’s.
Joanne was extremely accommodating and more than capable of complying. Joanne followed the strict care instructions to a T. She was great at responding to my text messages and very prompt. She even sent us daily updates and photos. All of which helped to alleviate our stress. Tremendously!
They took to her immediately, licking her face and crawling into her lap. I instinctively knew they would be happy, well cared for and safe with her.
When we returned to pick them up, we saw she had turned her living room sofa into their bed, placing blankets all over it, just to make them more comfortable. Even after returning home, our babies were relaxed, clean and in good spirits.
Overall, our experience with Joanne couldn’t have been better. Joanne was absolutely GREAT with our 2 little dogs! She is responsible, loving, patient, and caring. I would trust her with our babies in a second and recommend her to anyone.

Tiffany & Annie, Gizmo and Ozzy
Our dogs were well taken care of by Joanne and she went above and beyond by helping us out when we were in a bind. Jake and Dixie loved their long walks and we enjoyed getting pictures of them from Joanne.
Joanne & Steve are wonderful!

For "pet hosts" I couldn't have asked for more.
They only look after one pet at a time (unless I imagine there's a brother or sister in the deal?)

Totally hands on concerning diet & exercise.
They are kind & observant & will likely give you
some insights about your own pet.

No "act" regarding attention & love given,
-just good hearted pet care taking!

I'm NOT running out of platitudes, but I'll
add trustworthy to close the deal! ;)

Joanne and her husband are absolutely amazing and the best. Dixon has now stayed with them 3x and she clearly feels at home and totally at ease with them. They make Dixon apart of their household and provide optimal care and attention. They are loving, attentive and very responsive. They are always flexible as well, during Dixon's most recent stay my flight returning to NYC was delayed several hours and they were extremely patient and understanding. I strongly recommend Joanne and cannot summarize how wonderful she is as a dogsitter.

Dixie stayed with Joanne and her husband a second time and Dixie had a wonderful time. Joanne and her husband are the absolute best!! Joanne again Was loving, caring and affectionate towards Dixon. Joanne is organized, professional and just an all around wonderful person. She made sure that Dixon felt at home and was on top of all of Dixon's wants and needs from the moment arrived till I picked Dixon up... in fact Dixon didn't want to go home. Joanne was also very responsive throughout my entire trip. I would highly highly recommend Joanne and definitely use her again!!
Joanne and her husband are the absolute best!! Joanne treated Dixon like a princess. She was very loving, caring and affectionate towards Dixon. Joanne is organized, professional and just an all around wonderful person. She made sure that Dixon felt at home and was on top of all of Dixon's wants and needs from the moment arrived till I picked Dixon up... in fact Dixon didn't want to go home. Joanne was great. Olaf loved her. Lots of 1 on 1 time. Olaf was extremely happy. Wouldn't think twice to use Joanne again.
This was my first time using DogVaca and am soo glad to have had Joanne as our first experience. From the moment we met for a meet-and-greet, I could tell that Joanne (and her husband) were dog lovers... both of my black labs were very comfortable with them!
During my trip I sent a note to check on the girls and Joanne provided some feedback to let me know they were in good hands.
When I picked up my dogs, they both looked relaxed and would probably have stayed longer : )
Thanks Joanne!
Joanne watched our 3 dogs while we were in Greece. At our meet and greet, my babies fell in love at first sight! She was so warm and loving towards them that I felt comfortable right away with my decision to have Joanne care for my babies for almost 2 weeks, out of the country(!). My dogs are a handful and she had no problem with them. She saw their dog beds were torn and she sewed them, who does that?!? I don't want to say much more or she'll be so booked, I'll never be able to leave town again...
Our Golden Retriever Chloe had a wonderful 2 day stay with Joanne and her husband Steve. We were worried about leaving her with anyone that wasn't family. We had given the pet hotel a try for weekend trips a couple of times in the past few years, but weren't really happy with how things went...and Chloe seemed so unhappy when we went to pick her up. ( she had actually vomitted and barely showed any interest in socializing or playing during her stay). Chloe LOVES, LOVES, LOVES attention...and we could not be happier with the TLC she received from Joanne and Steve. She had their undivided attention ( as there were no other dogs in the home) and they took her on long walks/runs on a local hiking trail, allowed her to chill on their sofa and had the TV on for background noise. Joanne even cuddled with her on the sofa. :). We texted a couple times a day to check on her and get an update..and we received a photo...all very reassuring that Chloe was in good hands! We returned home to one very happy (and tuckered out) puppy! Thanks so much Joanne and Steve...we look forward to seeing you both in the future! :)
The King Family
Joanne was an amazing dog-sitter for my parents' elder beagle, Natalie. Natalie stayed with Joanne and her husband for almost two weeks. Natalie is fifteen years old and has some age related health issues. Joanne was very quick to let me know when she thought Natalie might be ill and did not complain about cleaning up the water that she threw up. Joanne took Natalie on lots of nice walks and kept her extremely comfortable. She kept me updated with photos and texts.
This was the first time I needed to find a place for Jameson to stay while I was working. I usually leave him with family members. I was nervous to leave him for 2 nights especially with a "stranger" but Joanne was wonderful. She made him feel comfortable as soon as we walked through the door. She was quick to respond to my "mommie" texts and flexible with my schedule. I will definitely leave Jameo with Joanne next time I'm in the area. He really seemed happy while I was away which never happens.
My dog had a lovely time at Joanne's. She is an older dog, with several special needs, and she was very well taken care of.
We met Joanne the day before Turbo's stay and knew she had a lot of affection to share. Her home and yard are cozy and the walking areas are superb with the Hudson River and woods nearby. Turbo had a good time and I think Joanne did too!
Our dog Stella is a rescue and by nature just seems to be very timid. But Joanne was so warm and friendly, Stella was on her back waiting for belly rubs within 10 minutes of our first meet and greet! I knew Stella would be well cared for...I highly recommend Joanne!
Mila was well-cared for while with Joanne. Joanne responded to emails and text messages. Our dog, Mila was in great hands with Joanne. When we picked her up,it was clear our dog had been in good hands.
Joanne was wonderful with Lucky. She and her husband took wonderful care with him. Very caring and warm. Lucky is blind and we worried that he would have a hard time, but they went out of their way to make sure he was comfortable and had an easy time adapting to their home. I would definitely trust her with your dog.
Joanne is terrific! Her responses to both my emails and texts was really quick, she was flexible with pick up and drop off times and Abby had a great time. Abby was immediately comfortable with Joanne's gentle nature, they went on plenty of walks along the trails near Joanne's house -- what dog doesn't love nature walks? :)

We will definitely be calling Joanne again to take care of Abby for us, we would be comfortable leaving her there for a weekend or a week knowing she is in great hands. Thanks Joanne!
