I have been around animals my entire life and I have learned that there are 4 important things to consider if you want your pet to be truly happy. Respect, Love, Nutrition and Exercise are all key factors in raising happy animals.
Just like people, all animals have their own unique personality. This means some animals can take a little while to warm up or may even get emotionally distraught when in certain scenarios. Fireworks on the 4th would be a good example of this. In order to gain their trust you want to respect their feelings and not take it personal if they are standoffish. On the other side of the spectrum you don’t want to yell at them either if they are overly friendly. Animals are great receptors to peoples emotions and can feel when we are upset with them. Patience and a calm demeanor can go a long way when warming up to a new friend or trying to calm one down.
Proper nutrition is essential for your pet. In recognizing this, I am fully aware that not all pets are the same and some may require special diets. Treats are great for encouraging new behaviors and rewarding a job well done but they certainly don’t need to be a replacement for a good meal.
Exercise is important for everyone, animals included. I have a nice size yard to allow my new friends plenty of room to run around or even sit and enjoy the fresh air.
