FAQ

Why are DogVacay and Rover coming together?

Rover and DogVacay share the same mission: To make life better for dogs and the people who love them. We can make an even bigger impact together. This union will make it easier for pet parents to get trusted care for their dogs, for pet sitters to connect with more dog owners nationwide, and most importantly, for dogs to get the best possible care.

What is Rover?

Rover is the nation's largest network of 5-star pet sitters and dog walkers. Similar to DogVacay, Rover connects pet parents with people who will treat their dogs like family. As a Rover sitter, you'll still be able to choose your schedule, services, and rates, and continue to build your own pet-sitting business.

What is happening with DogVacay and Rover?

All United States and Canadian DogVacay hosts and sitters were invited to migrate their profiles to Rover, which can be done with just a few clicks. You'll still be able to manage existing bookings on DogVacay, but we encourage you to manage your business on Rover—that way, all your info will live in one place. After June 12, 2017, you can continue creating new bookings on Rover, but you will no longer be able to create new bookings on DogVacay and will be redirected to complete the booking on Rover. Beginning June 20, 2017, DogVacay will redirect to Rover. The DogVacay site and app will be retired, and pet parents and sitters will be welcomed to Rover. You'll still be able to access your DogVacay account—including your history, messages, and any upcoming bookings—by logging on to Rover using your DogVacay credentials. All your account information will transfer over.

How does this benefit pet parents?

Easy Booking
By creating the nation's largest network of 200,000+ pet sitters and dog walkers, it's never been easier to find and book 5-star neighborhood care for your dog.

Beginning June 20, 2017, DogVacay will redirect to Rover. The DogVacay site and app will be retired, and pet parents and sitters will be welcomed to Rover.

  • Dog information

  • Emergency contacts

When must I move my profile?

Beginning June 20, 2017, DogVacay will redirect to Rover. The DogVacay site and app will be retired, and pet parents and sitters will be welcomed to Rover.

Can I close my DogVacay account once I migrate?

Yes, if you'd like to close your DogVacay account, you can contact our customer care team at help@dogvacay.com.

Can I pay my sitter in cash?

Paying and communicating on Rover is required per Rover's Terms of Service and is essential to ensuring a safe and secure experience. Additionally, only stays and walks booked on Rover are covered by the Rover Guarantee and 24/7 support.

I have a booked stay on DogVacay for June 20, 2017 or later. What should I do?

Even if you don't migrate your account before June 20, 2017, the details of your stay will exist on Rover. To manage your stay, migrate your Rover account by logging in to Rover with your DogVacay username and password. If you don't migrate your Rover account, you can still communicate via email or the SMS number provided by DogVacay.

I have a stay booked on DogVacay for June 20, 2017 or later and I don't intend to migrate to Rover.

We're sorry to hear that, but if you don't want to migrate your account, you certainly don't have to unless you need to make changes to your stay. Here's what will happen next:

If you don't need to make any modifications to your stay, no action is needed. Simply keep in touch with your host or sitter via email or the SMS number provided by DogVacay. If you do need to make changes to your stay, migrate your account to manage changes on Rover.

Are my booking confirmation numbers going to stay the same?

Yes. Rover support agents will be able to reference bookings with confirmation numbers from the DogVacay platform.

Will I be able to find hosts I've booked with before on DogVacay?

What happens to my trust and safety fee?

Owners will pay the same trust and safety fee when you migrate to Rover as you always have on DogVacay. However, this fee has a maximum of $25 USD or $35 CAD per booking on Rover.

I need to adjust the dates of a booking I made on DogVacay. Should I cancel and rebook on Rover?

You have two options: you can adjust the dates on DogVacay, or you can cancel on DogVacay and rebook on Rover. Also, if your sitter has migrated to Rover, they can adjust the dates on Rover, and Rover will take care of updating the booking on DogVacay.

Many of your questions may be answered in the Rover & DogVacay Town Hall meeting held May 12, 2017. Follow the link to view a video of the event, in which Aaron Easterly and Aaron Hirschhorn share more about their vision for the company moving forward and what this change means for migrating/merging sitters.

How will my position in search be impacted?
All of the great work you've been doing on DogVacay will go with you to Rover! Things like your DogVacay booking rate, repeat guest rate, and reviews will all be factored into your search position on Rover. Click here to learn more about how your search score is calculated on Rover.

How will I receive payment?
After you migrate, you'll need to set your payment preferences. You can receive payment via check or PayPal.

The payout timing will change, however. You'll receive your payout on Rover two calendar days after the completion of a booking, even on weekends and holidays. For example, a booking ending on a Friday will be paid out on Sunday. We recommend adding your payout method ASAP as there is a one-time 72 hour hold before you can transfer funds to a newly added payout account.

Migrated sitters can opt into automatic transfers, but on Rover, you can also have the ability to build up a balance and withdraw funds manually. To learn more about the payment process, we suggest this article.

Please note that in the near term, bookings accepted on DogVacay will still be paid out by DogVacay and will follow the preferences you set on your DogVacay profile.

Canadian services will continue to be listed and paid in Canadian dollars. Note: Canadian sitters will be paid out via PayPal only.

Can I be paid in cash?
Paying and communicating on Rover is required per Rover's Terms of Service and is essential to ensuring a safe and secure experience. Accepting payments outside of Rover could lead to account suspensions for both the sitter and the owner. Additionally, only stays and walks booked on Rover are covered by the Rover Guarantee and 24/7 support.

Should I update my rate?
Once you activate your Rover profile, we recommend checking the rates of similar sitters in your area to ensure you're competitive. You also have the option of customizing holiday rates if you'd like to do so. Here's an article that explains how and why you may want to do this. Please note that sitters in Canada will continue to list their services and be paid out in Canadian funds.

I've sent custom quotes on DogVacay, will I still be able to do that?
Yes, but it works a little differently.

If a customer has never booked with you before, they must first send you a booking request. You can then edit the rate and send the request back, and they'll confirm the amended request.

If a customer has booked with you before, you may initiate the reservation request and adjust the rate as you see fit.

You can read more about this process here.

Which insurance policy will I be using moving forward?
Your customers can book with confidence knowing that their booked stays and walks are covered by the Rover Guarantee. Bookings made on DogVacay will follow DogVacay policies, and bookings made on Rover will follow Rover's policies. You can learn more about the Rover Guarantee included with every Rover booking by clicking here.

What happens to my cancellation policy?
Similar to DogVacay, Rover allows sitters to choose their own cancellation policies, but there are slight differences. When you migrate your profile, you'll be automatically opted into the Rover cancellation policy that's most similar to your DogVacay one. We encourage you to review Rover's cancellation policy definitions here and adjust yours as you see fit.

Will I get enough business on the Rover platform?
All DogVacay pet owners are being welcomed to the Rover community, so you'll be exposed to even more potential customers. By combining resources, we'll be able to invest more in our sitter community—from advertising and growing our customer base, to adopting new technologies that'll help you run your business—which means more bookings for you.

How do new customers book with me?
Your profile will appear in Rover search results. You can also share your Rover profile URL with potential customers. To contact you, new customers will send you a booking request.

When must I migrate?

We highly recommend migrating before June 12, 2017. Starting June 12, 2017, you won't be able to accept new bookings on DogVacay (but you'll still be able to manage your existing bookings). Beginning June 20, 2017, DogVacay will redirect to Rover. The DogVacay site and app will be retired, and pet parents and sitters will be welcomed to Rover.
