HovenWeep Farm has been a privately owned family hobby farm for 20 years. It is a partially renovated 200 year old farm house on 12 1/2 acres of mixed field and meadow. Occupying about 3 acres is the heart of the farm, an oasis of willows and maples surrounding a 60' pond. The farm house is roughly 2,700 sq ft, of dog-friendly home. It is not a facility or a centre, it is a practical, cozy, rustic household designed to allow dogs to be dogs. It has been thoughtfully set up to cater to the comfort of humans and animals alike.
For off-leash free play and group play, we have a fully fenced (6' fence) 1/2 acre+ yard off the indoor play room. It has water access and often boasts multiple kiddie pools on warm summer days.
It is marked on one side and at the end by a 100 year old pine treeline, and apple and ash along the opposite side. Climbing vines along the fence provide a natural visual barrier.
Although there is a set routine for meals, medications and bedtime, I have found it more conducive to the dogs state of mind if the planned daily activities unfold in a loose structure with some flexibility. Typically everything gets accomplished, but in a thoughtful way that caters to the energy of the dogs and the environment surrounding them.
Animals of every description have come and gone on the farm, as have my children who were raised here. Animals have always been a fundamental part of our lives, and the care and nurturing of dogs have not only been a personal passion, but a vocation which has included training,, behaviour and assessment work, rehabilitation, triage, rescue and shelter work, physical assessments and long term care.
