About Jane

35 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
HovenWeep Farm has been a privately owned family hobby farm for 20 years. It is a partially renovated 200 year old farm house on 12 1/2 acres of mixed field and meadow. Occupying about 3 acres is the heart of the farm, an oasis of willows and maples surrounding a 60' pond. The farm house is roughly 2,700 sq ft, of dog-friendly home. It is not a facility or a centre, it is a practical, cozy, rustic household designed to allow dogs to be dogs. It has been thoughtfully set up to cater to the comfort of humans and animals alike.
For off-leash free play and group play, we have a fully fenced (6' fence) 1/2 acre+ yard off the indoor play room. It has water access and often boasts multiple kiddie pools on warm summer days.
It is marked on one side and at the end by a 100 year old pine treeline, and apple and ash along the opposite side. Climbing vines along the fence provide a natural visual barrier.
Although there is a set routine for meals, medications and bedtime, I have found it more conducive to the dogs state of mind if the planned daily activities unfold in a loose structure with some flexibility. Typically everything gets accomplished, but in a thoughtful way that caters to the energy of the dogs and the environment surrounding them.
Animals of every description have come and gone on the farm, as have my children who were raised here. Animals have always been a fundamental part of our lives, and the care and nurturing of dogs have not only been a personal passion, but a vocation which has included training,, behaviour and assessment work, rehabilitation, triage, rescue and shelter work, physical assessments and long term care.

This description is a combination of excerpts from my website Please feel free to use it as part of your vetting process. Thank you.

Jane is one of the most caring people I've ever met--especially when it comes to our four-legged friends. She loves them, exercises them and gives them lots of attention. Her approach in based on an established, but flexible, routine that keeps pups happy! I'd recommend her to anyone looking as an experienced pet carer.

I worked with Jane at our local no kill animal shelter a few years ago. At that time the shelter was at full capacity for dogs. It was an incredibly stressful environment for some of these dogs and Jane was excellent at reading body language and assessing behaviour on many different occasions. She was able to find suitable play mate companions to help burn off pent up energy while the dogs were in her care. It was a joy to watch the dogs in her care, she advocated for agility courses to help give the really high energy dogs a job, and train some of the more rambunctious dogs. She also dealt with a lot of unpredictable dogs during her time at the shelter. I found her calm demeanor and her patience to be an asset in those situations. During the time we worked together she was taking a behaviour course and she was always happy to educate the fellow employees on different tactics that she had learned in her course. Jane takes excellent care of all dogs no matter the breed or personality.

It’s so hard to be away from my dog. It’s really reassuring to know that he is staying with someone who treats each guest like her own. The house is big and roomy, lots of fields and fenced yards. The place is great. It’s really nice to have the faith and confidence in a place and in a caretaker who is the definition of a dog lover and comes with a professional background. It’s great to have the reassurance. My pup is always so happy after a stay at Jane’s. Great rates and peace of mind. I highly recommend!

We have two dogs and on holiday weekends, it is difficult to find a friend or neighbour to mind the girls. led us to a local sitter Jane O. We started with a meet and greet that went really well. It felt so wonderful to start our minivacay feeling assured that our fur babies were going to be well looked after in a home setting. They do not get out much so boarding in a kennel is never an option for us. Jane went above and beyond sitting. Before we left, she asked if she could groom our girls which of course we said yes. Jane sent videos and photos to me, capturing moments of play and joy. They look so pretty and they were so tired from all of the play that they experienced that they slept while we put our belongings back in order. An excellent experience for my girls and for us as well!

Using Doggie Vacay was a snap. In fact, it was so easy I was apprehensive as I wondering if it was so easy for anyone to be a dog care provider. But my concerns were soon put to rest. Jane did not just provide excellent day care for Stella but interacted in such a way as to know and understand her and her needs. This is no ordinary facility; it is a home away from home. The dogs are matched into specific playgroups based and their personalities and needs. Jane is AMAZING with the dogs. While Stella was thrilled to see me at the end of the day, her demeanour has changed - from a little on the timid side to a new comfortable in her own skin. It was the perfect socialization outlet Stella needed and I could leave her without worries - except that she might not want to come home with me at the end of the day!
