I grew up in Houston with my best friend, a German Shepherd named Tello. He was the best dog, especially for a child, and especially for a child like me. I dressed him up while he panted patiently, shared popsicles during cicada hot summers, pretended to ride him like a horse and at nights watching TV I would lay my head on his stomach and use it as a warm safe pillow. Since then I now share my days with a wonderful dog named Symmetry, a rescue dog I found on the street.
Houston is a dog-crazy place! You can see so many dog-lovers everywhere; walking their pups in the evenings after work, playing in the dog park, bringing them to dog-friendly restaurants. When I started working full time I hated having to leave my dog behind. Not only did I worry about the dull, lonely existence I was providing for her through the many hours that I was gone; but for a while every day I'd come home after a long day to find a puddle of pee and a shame-faced dog. As patient as I tried to be with her, I couldn't help feeling more stressed at having to come home and immediately start cleaning and coaxing my dog from her hiding place when all I wanted to do was relax. Unfortunately, she could feel my stress too and it made her sad.
When my neighhbor offered to walk her during the day; many things happened immediately. My guilt at leaving her disappeared, I knew she wasn't bored and sad, that she was playing and having fun. Her accidents stopped, and I would come home to a happy dog and I could sit down and relax.
Having someone walk your dog during the day not only ensures that you won't come home to a nasty mess that you must immediately start cleaning up- it also means that your best friend is happy with plenty of attention and affection. You love your friend, why would you want them to sit sad and alone all day?
There is a park walking distance from my home so daily walks while pet-sitting is no issue at all.
You will have no worries leaving your pet under my care because he/she will be cared for with a loving heart. I believe pets are an extended part of the family and I can't wait to make yours apart of mine. :)
