We are Ella and Patrick. We were both raised with dogs and lots of animals and are pretty serious animal lovers. I’ve had a dog for most of my life until now. We recently moved to Philadelphia and are still unsure exactly what the future holds for us, so we don’t have a dog of our own — but we’d love to watch yours!
I am an artist and educator and Patrick is a musician and writer. We both work part-time at home, so your pupper won’t be home alone for more than 6 hours at a time.
We’ve been watching dogs on Rover (a very similar site) for over a year now and we love it! We've recently decided to give DogVacay a try as well. The extra money (#sidehustle) is nice, but more than anything we love having a buddy around. We joke that between the two of us spending most of our day at home and how much we love dogs, this must be dog heaven.
Having been a dog parent myself, I know how important it is to feel you've left your pup in good hands. I wish I had known there were sites like these when my buddy was still alive -- I never would've left him with friends and family who didn't really want him around and weren't the best caregivers to begin with. Patrick and me truly love dogs and would love to have your fur baby around.
That said, for dog sitting to be worth the effort for us, we’d really prefer “easy” dogs that do NOT:
-Excessively bark. (Our landlord lives above us and our apartment is tiny. A bit of barking at the door or unfamiliar noise is normal - constant and seemingly pointless barking is not ideal.)
-Show signs of aggression. (Not all dogs should be home-boarded. If your dog might bite either of us, we’re not prepared to handle that. Your dog might be better off with trained professionals in a kennel.)
-Pee or poop in the house. (Accidents happen, but we’d prefer house-trained dogs.)
Really, we want to watch dogs we like. And fortunately for us we’re in a position where this isn’t about making money and we’d rather turn a way a dog that’s not a good fit for us.
We only watch one dog at a time-- we live in a one bedroom apartment with no yard. It would be too much to try and have two or more unfamiliar dogs within such a small space.
Please note: Ideally, we prefer drop off times after 8:00AM and before 10:30PM. If these times don't work with your schedule, please consider requesting the night earlier or the night after. (However, we may be able to work something else out!)
