We are a family of 4 who loves dogs. All breeds - there is no bias. Well...actually my youngest child has a preference for breeds that are on the show Paw Patrol. If you have kids...you know what I'm talking about =)
We welcome all sizes of dogs but we ask that as our family is new to this, if you have a large dog, they need to be mild tempered and good with children. We will not be able to care for dogs that have aggression towards children.
Please be aware that we are two working parents so on most weekdays, your dog may be unsupervised in our home for 6-8hrs.
Now that our kids are older (8yr & 10yr) and we have dog sat for some family and friends - we feel dog sitting would be a great opportunity for us, as a family, to care for different dog breeds and get the chance to loooove a doggy while he/she stays with us. My daughter loves loves loves dogs. She daydreams about them, has stickers of all dogs, will be the first to spot a dog anywhere we go, etc. I think this is a great opportunity for us, as parents to support and encourage her deep love for animals. Who knows...maybe in 5-6 years, she will be managing DogVacay for herself. It would be wonderful!!
We live in a small 3 level split home. Generally, the dog would stay on the main floor where the kitchen/dining and living room is - laminate wood flooring. Total sqft of the main floor is about 750sqft. We also have a back yard where the dog can hang out on a dry day. It's currently not fully fenced off so we would stay with the dog, leashed, in the back yard at all times. The dog would not be left un-attended in the backyard. We have plans to fully fence off the yard in the next 2 months. Depending on the size and fur type of the dog, we may allow the dog upstairs where the bedrooms are. It is dependent on the dog being hypoallergenic because the upstairs is carpeted and I'm actually allergic to dogs - hence why we have not added a pup to our family.
We are 10min walking distance to DeerLake Park and a quick 10min drive to Burnaby Lake or Central Park. We are walking/hiking family so this would be an outing that we would love to take your dog on if they are up for it. We also like going for bike rides so if your dog likes to run and is trained to run with a bike, then up on a bike we go!
