Hi there! I'm a longtime pet lover and am eager to care for yours. I'm that guy who greets dogs on the street waiting for their humans to finish shopping, and I know which dogs and cats live where in my neighborhood. :) I've been sitting and walking dogs since October 2013 and volunteered with the Seattle Animal Shelter for a few years before that.
Like people, every pet is different, and I enjoy getting to know them and giving them attention, playtime, cuddles, and treats as well as meals, walks, medicine, or other needs. I've had basic behavior and first aid training I can call on in an emergency, though thankfully I haven't had to. I also know cats after having one for 13 years, and I've cared for tortoises, rats, and other pets too. Animals usually take to me pretty quickly, but if not, I'm good at earning their trust with a combination of patience, treats, and non-threatening behavior. I've only been unable to win over one dog so far, and I'm proud of the frequent comments I get about pets taking to me much more quickly than most people, or pets liking me who rarely like anyone.
Since I don't work a 9-5 job, I'm available to sit or walk for you 7 days a week. Please note that I can't board pets in my own home, but when I watch them, they're in familiar surroundings where the only different thing is me. I like to meet you and your pet(s) at your home to get acquainted, go over questions, and show your pet(s) that you think I'm ok. While you're gone, I'll send regular photos and updates, unless you don't want me to (look out for roaming or other charges if you're outside the US). I'm also happy to get the mail, water plants, take out the trash, or other light household chores.
I happen to have Asperger's Syndrome (mild autism), which seems to give me an edge in communicating with our furry friends. At my old building, there were 3 dogs on my floor, and even when their owners were on the balcony with them, all 3 dogs would gather around me. :) I'm excited to meet you and your pet!
