I love animals of all kinds! I have had dogs and cats for most of my life, and have cared for others' pets since 2009. I have also owned birds, fish, tortoises, and turtles, and am very experienced administering medication to many types of animals.
We are a family of animal lovers. My son and I volunteer at a local animal shelter on the weekends, where we help take care of the cats and dogs, and occasionally attend adoption events.
Our GSD/Siberian Husky, Quill, loves other dogs (and cats), and has earned the Canine Good Citizen title. We continue to attend training classes so we can learn new skills and stay sharp on the old ones. My son also participates in Quill's training, and really enjoys spending time with our animal visitors. We have two tuxedo cats, Flash, a kitten, and Stormy, an adult, that both get along with dogs. We would love to care for your pet like it was another member of our family!
I do not have any size or breed restrictions. However, because I usually have multiple dogs in my home, I do not board aggressive dogs.
Don't hesitate to contact me about caring for your big dogs, because I love them! I have a 70-lb dog myself, but I have experience with even larger dogs like Great Danes. If you have a small dog, don't worry because I love them, too. I've owned a miniature dachshund, a beagle, and some wonderful little mutts. My son and his dad also have min pin that occasionally stays with us.
About vacays with us:
When staying with us, your dog will enjoy activities like walks in our neighborhood or a trip to the dog park (if they are good on a leash and aren't a flight risk), playtime in the back yard including fetch, frisbee, agility games, and a kiddie pool, a variety of indoor toys, and, of course, endless petting and affection! I also make my own natural dog treats, which your dog will enjoy on their stay with me, if allowed. Of course, feel free to bring your dog's own favorites!
In addition to giving your dog lots of play time and affection, we use a security camera to keep an eye on all pets when we're out of the house.
Because our dog used to be an avid chewer, our house is also thoroughly dog proof. All food, medication, and cleaners are put away, trash and (most) toys stay out of reach, and we work hard to keep only dog-appropriate things on the floor. We have a spacious, shady back yard with a patio and umbrella. The dogs have lots of room to run and play, and are never left outside unattended. Our first priority is the well-being and safety of all animals in our home.
When your pet stays with us, I encourage you to bring any items that will help them feel comfortable and remind them of home. Their usual toys, beds, crates, or blankets can ease anxieties and help to ensure the best stay possible! I provide food bowls, but please bring your pet's regular food to prevent any digestive upset.
About your pet:
Is your pet comfortable with children and other dogs? Do they have any anxieties or special needs? Please let me know about things like separation anxiety or food aggression so I can help your pet settle in. Most issues are easily accommodated once I am aware of them.
What are your dog's favorite toys and activities? Do they like to play in water? We love to get out the kiddie pool when it's warm! Is your dog a lap dog, or one that needs a lot of exercise and loves to be outdoors?
At a meet and greet, I can provide you with a pet information sheet that helps me get to know your furry friend and their preferences. I welcome hearing additional tips from you that will help me care for your dog. Please ensure that your pets are up to date on all required vaccinations.
