My boyfriend Casey and I are a passionate, out-going, dog-loving couple living in Yaletown (Downtown Vancouver). We've been considering getting our own dog for a little while and thought this might be a good way to start. I am a Senior Producer at an Visual Effects/Animation company, and Casey is a Medivac Pilot. Our schedules are quite conducive to Pet care. I have the ability (depending on the demeanor/behavior) to take a dog to work with me during the day. I would not be able to bring the dog, only if the dog had some behavioral issues around people, and could disrupt the environment in a negative way, or if you would prefer me not too. Casey's schedule changes quite often, he works 4 days on and 4 days off, so depending on the week, he could be at home during the weekdays or the weekends or both. Both of us are quite active, and have grown up with several dogs as the primary care-takers. We understand the importance of exercise, health, fresh air, and attention required for your dog. We also live across the street to a dog park in downtown Vancouver.
A typical day might involve the dog coming to work with me (I work in Gastown so I always walk), spending time indoors in an open concept office with a medium sized team (15 people), 2 walks during the work day, and then a walk back home. Dinner time could involve a quick walk over to the dog park with casey or I and then down time in the evening before bed. Another day might involve the dog staying at home with Casey (during the 4 days off he has), 2 walks during the day, possibly involving the dog park, or a hike out in Deep Cove, and then down time in the evening. We feel it is important to keep a dog on a routine, and to not feed the dog any regular people food, it is important that the dog keeps to his/her regular food and treats.
Our home is a 1 bedroom plus den plus flex space, including a balcony and additionally a private outdoor patio that connects to a rooftop. Our house is the only apartment that has private rooftop access with a private patio. The rest of the rooftop is common space, but anyone on the rest of the roof is not allowed in our space. This is NOT where the dog will be going to the bathroom, this would just be for the dog to freely roam indoors or outdoors (securely as our section is gated), as we leave our apartment patio door open sometimes, if its not cold, option to keep it closed though. We have an outdoor space on the patio that we regularly enjoy, so were often going in and out. The dog would be taken downstairs and outside to go to the bathroom. The dog will be allowed to choose to sleep wherever they like.
We are friendly, responsible and love being around people and pets, and we really think your dog will have a very positive experience while staying with us.
