I have grown up with animals and have worked as a professional in pet care for many years. My first two dogs were a collie predominant mutt and a shepard / lab mix named Honey and Shana. My next dog was a Tibetan Spaniel purebred. Her name was Amber. Not long after Amber joined the crew, a half pitbull, half black lab needed rescuing from the ghettos of Newark, NJ. My family rose to the occasion and Jett became the fourth dog in my life.
Because of my love of my dogs, I naturally found myself working for the local veterinarian, Susan Yatsky, at the New Britain Animal Clinic. I held dogs down for shots, administered oral medication and assisted Dr. Yatsky however I could.
I also worked for some time with the unique marsupial pets, sugar gliders, however I do not board or train them through DogVacay. Just dogs, cats and reptiles.
I am a committed sitter: I will reschedule / not make plans for the days / hours that I am with your pets. I feel that it's stressful enough for them that their people are away - the least I can do is comfort them by being around rather than jetting around, juggling appointments.
Special needs animals will be considered on a case by case basis. Medicating, diapering, etc. are examples of special needs. Most often there's no problem here but animals with excessive late-stage terminal issues include incontinence and/or severe dementia may not be approved.
