Welcome to Dogwarts, a magical getaway for your canine friends! We are located in beautiful and dog friendly ParkMerced, with plenty of open green space for your dog to explore. Whether your pooch loves to play with new friends, lounge around in the sun, or just cuddle up with people, they'll find a happy home here at Dogwarts.
Dogwarts is run by a young married couple, Mansi and Preston. We both grew up with canine family members, and are united by a lifelong love of pooches of all shapes and sizes. We started boarding with DogVacay in February 2015, simply out of the desire to spend more time with dogs, and to help dog owners find loving care for their pets. Within a few months, we had committed to DogVacay full time. We have even been selected to work as host representatives for DogVacay at the San Francisco Fit Expo & Marathon in July 2015.
Our goal is to be as prepared as we can be to give your dog excellent care. We place special emphasis on making sure our guests get enough exercise, helping ease any anxiety a dog might have entering a new environment, and providing each guest with a healthy supply of love and belly rubs! We care for every dog that comes through our doors as though it is our own.
THE DOGWARTS EXPERIENCE
We live in a spacious three-bedroom apartment, with a living room large enough for play time. Our building is located in ParkMerced, a residential park with plenty of open green spaces. We even have a dog park located two blocks from our home, that can be great for dogs who like to run and play off leash.
At least one of us is home nearly 24/7. The exception are short errands/appointments where we both must leave for an hour or two. As always, safety is our prime concern, and we will never leave dogs unattended if we believe it to be unsafe.
We adjust our rules and daily routine based on your input and the dog's individual needs. Our default daily schedule is four walks per day: two short (~15 minutes) and two long (~30 minutes), with plenty of impromptu play sessions in between.
We also believe communication with you, the owner, is of paramount importance, so you can expect daily photo & text updates.
Finally, our goal is to provide low-cost, high-quality care. To accomplish this, we take on multiple guests simultaneously. On the average day, we are hosting three or four dogs. We believe facilitating and monitoring the introduction and healthy interaction between the dogs is one of the most important parts of our job. For many guests, meeting new dog friends is one of the best parts of staying at Dogwarts. However, we also take care to make sure every dog is comfortable and happy, and make sure no one is being bothered with unwanted interactions.
IS YOUR DOG A GOOD FIT FOR DOGWARTS?
We want to make sure you find a great Vacay home for your dog, even with its not with us. We provide a loving environment for a wide variety of dogs, yet some dogs may find a better fit with another one of the wonderful sitters available through DogVacay.
A good way to think about how much space a dog needs is the dog's size + energy level. Our apartment is quite spacious, and we have hosted large, medium energy dogs that have been quite happy with us. On the other hand, larger high-energy dogs will ultimately feel cramped here, even with extra walks and outside playtime.
On a similar note, dogs who are used to walks as their primary form of exercise are the best fit for us. We don't take the dogs off-leash in unenclosed spaces, for safety reasons. We do take higher energy guests to the dog park once per day for supplemental play time, but walking/running on leash will be the core of their exercise routine here.
Finally, remember that we do host multiple dogs simultaneously. Therefore, we cannot take on guests who are too assertive with other dogs.
Due to the high amount of traffic we receive, and to compensate us for missing out on holiday celibrations, our rate during all official national holidays is an additional $10/night.
**Long Stay Discounts**
If your dog is staying for a week or longer, ask about our long stay discount!
Due to the extra effort required to give puppies the excellent standard of care we hold ourselves to, there is an additional $10/day fee for dogs under the age of 1 year. We apologize for being unable to list this directly during your search.
Meet-n-Greets are always highly recommended, and we are generally quite flexible on meet times. For stays of five nights or longer, we do require a Meet-n-Greet before we can accept the booking.
For safety reasons, we cannot accept dogs who are not neutered/spayed. Adding hormones to a new environment and new dogs can make even the most well-behaved pooch act in unpredictable ways.
We do pick-ups and drop-offs during what we call “Reasonable Waking Hours,” which are between 7AM and 11PM. Additionally, booking one night books a 24-hour period with us, with a six-hour buffer for pickup time. Beyond six hours counts as an additional day of daycare.
For example, a drop-off of 1PM on Friday and a pickup of 6PM on Sunday would count as two nights, but a drop-off of 12PM on Friday and a pickup of 7PM on Sunday would count as two nights + one day of daycare.
We offer DogVacay's most flexible cancellation policy. If you notify us at least four days in advance of your stay, we will give you a full refund. Anytime after that results in a 50% refund. We do make exceptions on this for stays longer than ten days.
Looking for a long-term care provider? We offer trial days at half price for owners looking for regular daycare or for stays longer than two weeks. As always, we want to make sure your dog will be happy with us, especially if they are going to be spending a lot of time here!
**Would You Be Able to Book Only Our Dog?**
Unfortunately, our business model does not allow for this, unless you are able to pay about triple the usual rate. Our goal is to be a low-cost provider, but to sustain ourselves at a low price, we have to accept multiple dogs simultaneously.
**Will There Be Any Aggressive Dogs?**
No. We have put a lot of emphasis on understanding and recognizing assertive/aggressive behavior in dogs, and will not take on dogs that show signs of such behavior. This comes with the disclaimer that we do not have formal training on this subject, but we have put significant effort into learning as much as we can about this topic, as it is vital to the safety and well-being of dogs that come to stay with us.
**My Dog Has Special Needs/Is On Medication. Can You Still Take Him?**
We consider this on a case-by-case basis, but the general answer is yes. We are quite comfortable administering medication, or accommodating special needs.
**What Are Your Rules on XYZ?**
We follow your rules first, no questions asked. It is good for the dog to have a consistent set of rules, so we always keep consistent with any rules you have at home. In general, we offer the dogs a great deal of freedom around the apartment, and many sleep with us up on the bed. Our one rule is to never take dogs off-leash in open environments.
**Does My Dog Need to Be Playful?**
Absolutely not! Many dogs love having the opportunity to interact with other dogs, but guests who prefer to have their own space also do just fine with us. No dog is forced into situations that makes them unhappy or uncomfortable.
