5 Years Experience Caring For Dogs

Update: As of late January, Pluto, a 3yr old tuxedo cat, will be joining our pack! He is quiet, dog friendly, and most dogs never notice he lives here. We ask that our guests not mind him either!

Pup muggles and wizards alike are always welcome in our warm, cozy row house.
My partner and I are young professionals who work from home and live with our "micro" white German Shepherd, Korra. Located in the heart of Columbia Heights, our home is close by Rock Creek Park and between three dog parks - 11th & Park, Shaw Dog Park, and Upshur Dog Park. Our house is 1100 sq ft, and has a fenced in small yard.

I have been around dogs of all types my whole life, with a love for pups of all sizes. I am a volunteer for the Washington Humane Rescue Alliance, and before I moved to our Capital, I was a volunteer at a German Shepherd rescue in Los Angeles, where I frequently worked with leash reactive dogs, and encountered rescues with separation anxiety. Korra herself was a 4 month old kill shelter rescue with a history of separation anxiety. I have experience with different training techniques and tools I can recommend, can administer oral medication, and have experience socializing puppies and anxious rescue dogs.

A day at Dogwarts can start with a long walk, followed by playing in the backyard, and ending a day at the dog park, if alright with the dog parent. Since I work from home, pups will have plenty of time to play together with constant supervision. If left alone, I keep a close eye on the pups through my "Korra Kam" surveillance camera, that allows me to spot any mischief.

In addition to typical expectations of dog sitters, I like to incorporate daily refresher training with all our pup guests including "sit" "stay" and the notorious "heel" and "leave it," and can also work on other behaviors if pup parents would like.
Pups will always leave Dogwarts exhausted and ready to love on their parents!

At night, pups will be fed before a short walk at night, and will be welcome to sleep in their beds or in a crate. After a long day of exercise, pups at Dogwarts have no problem falling asleep!

*We ask that visitors to our home request a "meet and greet" to ensure that all dogs get along well; (small dogs accustomed to larger dogs/ non-dog aggressive dogs).

*I can only board one dog at a time, but can accommodate day care guests. Message me regarding any inquiries on blocked off dates*

*All guests must be house trained as we want to minimize damage to the wood floors. Puppies will preferably be crate trained or accustomed to staying home for a short amount of time, and we ask owners to please be forthright about their dogs behaviors and be prepared with their crates or training pads if necessary.

*Please be honest about behaviors! We love all dogs at Dogwarts, but we want to know as much about your pup as we can. Don't be embarrassed to alert me of common behaviors like leash reactiveness, squirrel chasing, or shoe chewing.

Dogs are dogs, and they're magically imperfect.

That's everything!

We hope that your pup can come stay with us, and be ready for new adventures.

Loved Andrea, felt like we instantly clicked. Her dog and mine looked like cousins or something, they were so cute together. She suggested that we meet at a dog run to make sure my dog was comfortable first, and they had a blast together. She took her with them to a BBQ with friends and other dogs, so needless to say when we got back to our hotel she was DONE. Great last minute assistance, we used DogVacay to allow us to enjoy DC without bothering other hotel guests by leaving our dog in the crate.
Where to begin?! Andrea was super flexible on our meet and greet and was a trooper and met us in the rain! The day of she was ready to accept our Berner and very sweetly handled her 3 accidents in the house. That day we took her to the vet given it was so uncharacteristic of her - and she had a UTI. Andrea was MORE then flexible and accommodating and we were so thankful that she was sensitive and aware of what was going on that she was able to, in detail, explain how much water she had/energy levels/overall behavior. Made me feel like a family member was taking care of our dog - which is exactly how you want this experience to feel. Andrea has a love for all creatures that radiates from her and we would absolutely book through her again! THANK YOU ANDREA!!
Andrea was excellent! Our corgi had a great time there (lots of pictures/snaps/instagramming throughout her stay) and Andrea was communicative and accommodating. Definitely hoping to go to Dogwarts again!
Andrea is the best!! She sent me daily pictures (often more than one) and updates and kept me from stressing about leaving my pup for the first time. She has a camera that can speak to the dogs for times she is out of the house, which is awesome! We've been home for a couple days now and my dog is still tuckered out. I know my dog will always have a safe and happy time with Andrea and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a sitter!
My pup Hattie's stay with Andrea was great! Andrea is an extremely knowledgeable, competent, and caring host, and it really shows in the way she interacts with her own dog Korra and the dogs she takes care of. I left the meet-and-greet feeling very happy and comfortable with the idea of leaving Hattie there for a week, and my confidence proved to be very well-placed. Andrea sent lots of updates, was mindful and understanding of Hattie's quirks, and even worked on some training with her. It was so nice to be able to relax on vacation and know that Hattie was getting equal care and attention to what she would be getting at home.

ALSO, Andrea's resident dog Korra is one of the best dogs ever. Very playful and welcoming!
Andrea was an incredible host and we have already booked Vee's next stay. Andrea is super friendly, clearly knows a lot about dogs, and kept our pup very busy with play time and fun hikes in Rock Creek Park. Her dog Korra and Vee are now best buds! Thanks Andrea for being such a great dog sitter. See you soon!
Really super overall experience with Andrea dog-sitting for me over a July weekend. Visited the day prior for an orientation. Andrea's dog Korra seemed a bit grumpy at first but warmed up to my dog Mocha after the initial intro. It was easy to see that Andrea really likes dogs and understands taking care of them. We made sure to discuss key points and expectations for Mocha. Also filled out an online form with Mocha info which is a good way to make sure all useful info is known and at hand. Andrea sent us photos and even a video early and often while we were out of town. Mocha and Korra appeared to be thick-as-thieves together, and made quite the adorable pair since they happen to look really similar. Andrea was extremely accommodating with drop-off and pickup times as it so happened that I had to leave early in the morning Saturday and came back after 10pm on Sunday night. Andrea tried out an Easy Walk harness with Mocha, which was nice because it was a good test to compare its effectiveness stopping here leash pulling versus the Gentle Leader (I'm buying one now). Finally, Andrea gave a nice report on how things went and sent Mocha off with a delicious puppy popsicle. Mocha says she had a terrific time :)
